but will Tubs be able to get a signal in the Tube? Doesn’t he rock up 10 minutes before he goes on air?

There was no way Ryan was going to get through the morning without mentioning this. He ended his link at 12:13 equating this to being his 'bronze, silver and gold medal rolled into one'. Really sucking it up to RTE now as he has long come to his own realization that that was his Olympics period, I suppose a somewhat far cry from his current Liam McCarthy phase. He followed up with a link at 12:27 mentioning yesterday's photo shoot posted on Instagram particularly referring to the photographer, his own build and that he wanted to wear his own clothes and of course considering what she normally photographs - luckily for Ryan and the rest of us she was ok with that. He also felt like he was in that Duran Duran video. Maybe he did pick up on Peter's post from yesterday 😉

Frank Hall presented for about 3 months back in the 60s, too. Handy little trivia nugget, comes up the odd time in table quizzes.

could be worse, it might have been Haughey, Lowry, Tubridy, Fitzpatrick

Oh I’d be pretty confident Noel and Ryan read the thread.

RTE were covering Ray Burke on the wireless this morning. It was 20 years ago this week that Ray found himself in jail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Missed that. Was it Morning Ireland or CB?

    Burke was some bucko.

I saw a renault shop in Dundrum shopping centre yesterday, a pretty big unit next to Zara/H&M. Usually theres a few small booths in the aisle to do with cars, think BYD had one up by the BT entrance. Never saw a full "shop" before though.

Renault must have money to burn, and think that giving kathryn thomas and tubridy free cars will help them capture the SoCoDu set.

    Its a bold strategy cotton…

Tubridy most certainly does not drive a Renault or a Peugeot - perish the thought of either!

He used to have a deal with BMW, then Lexus, this was in his Tubridy Tonight days. Then he got the LL gig, and asked for a bigger car - that’s gratitude for you. They declined.

Shortly after this he was driving a BMW, and then a Jaguar. He had a Volvo for a short period too.

Intriguing. This article sums up most of it but there’s more that I’m aware of through a variety of sources. I can’t say any of that here unfortunately and sadly. All I will say is while broadly accurate there are some details in that piece that are how can I put this - up for debate.

RTÉ has confirmed it is continuing to negotiate deals with Noel Kelly Management after Doireann Garrihy’s return to 2FM.

Despite RTÉ director general Kevin Bakhurst previously indicating he would no longer engage with Kelly, RTÉ has clarified that it still deals with his agency. https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/rte-seeks-225000-sponsorship-for-doireann-garrihys-new-2fm-afternoon-show/a29490848.html

All it's going to take now is for Tubridy to return, in order to complete the full circle.

reminds me of WEB summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave who "resigned" after he made inopportune comments regarding the Palestine Israel war in late 2023. Now look where Paddy is. Back in the driving seat.

    It's pathetic.

I'm sure most, like me, assumed Bakhurst meant no dealings with NKM when he said he "wouldn't deal directly with Noel", turns out 'directly" was the main emphasis.

Right. So he'll deal with Noel's company, just not with Noel.

    FFS.

Well Dee never dealt with him directly either - Noel never even had a cup of tea with her after all, as per his Oireachtas Committee testimony:

“Mr Kelly, meanwhile, denied having a close relationship with former RTÉ director general Dee Forbes, saying he does not have her phone number.

"I've never had a cup of tea with Dee Forbes. I don't know Dee Forbes," he said, despite the fact according to RTÉ Ms Forbes negotiated the Tubridy deal personally, and that former CFO Richard Collins had said he “took comfort” regarding the deal given Ms Forbes’ “close” relationship with Mr Kelly.”

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/politics/arid-41181139.html

This statement has been contradicted by many in RTÉ btw, including in print.

    https://goss.ie/showbiz/rtes-adrian-lynch-disputes-noel-kellys-claim-that-he-never-met-with-former-director-general-dee-forbes-alone-344262

If only Dee Forbes was fit enough to give her side of the story…..her illness must be very debilitating is she cannot even provide a written statement at this stage. To save her the onerous task of typing said statement I am offering my transcription services if she wants to call me to take notes and prepare a statement for her approval. I mean, it’s been over 19 months now, surely her voice has improved?

There is a suggest there that Doireann is a somebody.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Mostly used in mafia circles. It’s rather bizarre you’d take it as a compliment, but I guess both have been implicated in dodgy financial practices.

Or maybe it's just the case that it is the worst that use Kelly as in fairness he is so good at what he does he is well capable of selling feces to a sewer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Can you perhaps explain the conflicting reports on your the boss knowing Dee Forbes then? He put it on the record he didn’t know her after all. Numerous RTÉ executives disagreed with this - are they all lying?

It would be quite strange that the head executive of one company wouldn’t know the head executive of its largest client, especially in an industry as small as the Irish media.

Why do RTE need to look for sponsors for the 'Talent'?

With all the scrutiny there is still no consequences or improvements.

    **** off RTE!
