Basically what I'm looking for is a speaker system for my whole house, so my music plays in all the rooms at once. But if at all possible I'd like it to work with Google cast. I know I can just get a load of nest audio speakers, but is it possible to get this working with better speakers than them?

I use a mixture of Sonos speakers, and Ikea Sonos clones, in various rooms. They can be be used to play music over the whole house, at once.

That's what I think I might have to go with. How do you send the music to the speakers? Does it have to be done through the sonos app? Like if I want to cast from YouTube music to the speaker group, how do I do that?

This is probably a little bit too DIY…

The S10+ is a great way to make a dumb device smart, although I personally used a Up2Stream Amp to power two speakers in a ceiling.

The 4Stream app is quite useable and the way their devices work (LinkPlay) means there's good integration in HomeAssistant.

Unfortunately YouTube (and YTM) would mean connecting via bluetooth to get it to work as they don't support a proper integration (in either direction!) but Spotify works great - the device appears in Spotify app as an option to play to.

+1 for the WiiM. Nice system on par with Sonos amps but a lot cheaper.
