"Do you Drink?"

I used to get that in my old job alright, mainly from the more extroverted colleagues. Or if I was going on a city break to somewhere like Rome or Prague they'd be like, "would you not go on a sun holiday?"

My father’s answer to such a question was always “Not enough.” Different times, I suppose but it did give people pause for thought.

Social nuances are tricky eh. :D

I would take that as someone checking if I drink, before gifting me a bottle of wine.

Like for a reward for good work done, or anniversary of service etc.

And I'd always make it easy for them, saying, oh yes, I love a good glass of red, or my tipple of choice is a nice whiskey. Or no, I never drank, prefer hiking equipment. blah blah blah.

Wouldn't jump to assuming this is someone asking you out for a date…
