I don’t think “the people around him are saying he’s training really well” can be taken as balanced because to be fair, how would they know? If the people at United are saying there is an issue with the training then it’s more likely to be true than not and I don’t think you can bring what people around Rashford are saying into the debate. I think if you had some of the players saying that he is training really well and they don’t understand why he’s being left out, then fair enough, that would bring what the club are saying into question. If he is training well and the club aren’t being fully honest about it, why hasn’t there been noise about it from anyone other than the player and his people?

Scholes is Scholes… I don’t think many take him too seriously as a pundit. I never doubted that there was interest in Rashford but obviously it’s challenging to get a deal done considering the salary.

Carragher makes the most sense in that for me.

What did you take from it though?

I think the training thing is somewhat irrelevant to the discussion and Ornstein sort of thought similar as it is not something he would be privy too. Amorim has said what he said and that's the position. I think there is definitely motivation issues there that Amorim tried to stoke and didn't work so that's where they are there and won't change soon as there has been a falling out.

Was more referring to the interest and how it has been handled by everyone. Rashford included. I've said from the start there's too many competing interests between the club, player and coach that his value will be at rock bottom. Interesting he suggested the deadline day scramble, he probably knows more than he lets on.

Ornstein had to clarify in his statements that it's not PR he's just providing balance. That's how toxic anything around the situation has become. Every time an article is even hinting at Rashford not being a cancer it's a PR exercise but all of the negative ones treated as fact.

United sign a left back of a Tuesday…..Luke Shaw back training Wednesday…..Gas

Fair enough, I’m just going off what Amorim is saying is the reason for Rashford not being in the squad, which is training. It might be other things that he doesn’t say publicly of course.

You will get childish people trying to throw ‘oh look you tried to leave and nobody wants you’ at him, which is best ignored. Of course teams would want him because they will have seen what he can do and will believe they can provide him with the environment to do it again. It would be a gamble though and I can see why clubs wouldn’t want to take on those wages - maybe a deal will be done for the rest of the season but I can’t see any obligation to buy or someone taking on a large percentage of his salary, which the club would be pushing for.

Ornstein is trying to balance it but I can also see why pundits might not be, it’s clear some are so fed up of talking about him - perhaps not an excuse to justify it but bloody hell there is something every week and it’s tiring.

I do think Rashford will go, but it'll be a last minute deal and won't be a good deal for us. Probably a loan with little or no fee and us picking up half his wages.

If Dorgu hold down a place I could see Dalot a RWB and Maz being used at right side of 3 Centre Halfs. But whatever way, it gives way more options and cover

Honestly I'd love Shaw back, on his day he is brilliant.....But his body disagrees

Genuinely World class, such a shame the way his career has panned out

All very fair points. Yeah I don't see it being resolved this window which is unfortunate.

I've been trying to avoid it myself but it kind of fit in with the Mitten thing from yesterday and there have been the usual few barbs this week, related to what Scholes said that I was surprised that would be the part that was clipped and not one of the more reliable journalists.

I liked the part where he trotted out the "scored 30 goals 3 years ago" line.

Commentators haven't twigged yet that it just highlights how long this nonsense has been going on.

I think Shaw is far more likely to see time at LCB rather than LWB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭mobydopy

He hasn’t got the legs for that LWB position. No doubt Shaw will get injured again anyway but less chance of that happening with him playing at LCB.

With Dorgu taking the LWB position, it’ll be interesting to see whether Amorim goes with Dalot or Mazraoui in the RWB position

Is the non quoting thing in the hope that others won't call out the blatant misinformation in your posts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭thefa

Was thinking the same with Shaw. Probably only able for a half at LWB in the short term but could still see Dalot get minutes there when Dorgu is rotated. Good opportunity for Dorgu to get a lot of game time to develop.

Would think Dalot would be the preference at RWB. Bit more creative than Mazaroui and we are sorely lacking creating chances.

I actually think moving there will prolong his Career somewhat as there won't be as much strain on the muscles with having to be constantly running the lines. Whether that is at United or not, who knows tbh.

Pretty funny alright 😂 just a coincidence though, he was always due to be back in training around this time

As good as he has been of late, I don't think Maguire makes it into the team if Amorim wants to be aggressive / offensive etc.

Didn't Amorim mention something about playing a lower line with Harry in the team after Fulham? I didnt get the match or post match interviews.

I think De Ligt would replace Maguire and I think Garnacho and Amad would be better off switching. I don't think Amad has the physicality etc to play RWB and a creative player like that should be as near to the goal as possible imo.

2.5 years left on Shaw's contract and apparently on £150k a week. The chances of us finding a buyer at any decent value and who will afford his wages (unless he takes a cut) are slim.

Our best option is probably to continue trying to rehab him and as said, play him LCB rather than LWB in the hopes that he can stay upright for more than a few weeks.

That contract is just another in a long line of ridiculous decisions by previous ownership. Dorgu apparently coming on £60k contract.

Why would I quote a video? The clip wasn't that long so I'm sure you'll be able to watch it if so inclined.

Id be very happy if Madrid come in for Dalot in the summer. He's simply a passion merchant who compensates for his limitations with high fives. Poor defender, complacent, lacks concentration and always gives wingers space!

I think if Amorim gets his way he'll push for Quenda in the summer

I think maguire is better on the ball than mdl, but if you had two comfortable players either side of mdl it might balance correctly.

Having a bit of a debate myself as to whether to point out the obvious counters to both of these gotcha points you think you have made....will confirm later.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

Yes, gotcha points are what we're calling opinions that are backed up by quotes just because you don't agree with them. State of that comment.

    Looking forward to it 👍🏻

Edit: though if you're not going to respond can you at least clarify who I "got"?

He has to be a storyteller because his actual football analysis is shallow and inadequate. But I don't think he's great at that either tbh because he doesn't have an ounce of charisma.

I don't think much of Carl Anka either by the way, but at least he has some critical thinking ability.

There are lots of really high quality and engaging people to listen to about football in the online/podcast sphere but unfortunately there's a severe lack of talent among the majority of the ones who managed to get on the Utd gravy train.

I used to listen to the Ringer football show with Anka and thought he was very good. He had an Arsenal fan co presenting and would deal with more than just United. Goes back to the problem with fan podcasts I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Caustic

But he isnt there to be a football analysis thats not what he does thats not his style of journalism so it isnt really fair to say he is inadequate its not what he does.

On the story telling fair enough thas subjective but i do find him interesting more times then not but he has a tendency to ramble a bit.

maybe try the devils in the details i think its called, not my favorite as i think the two lads are a bit arrogant but they certainly a lot more analysis based over entertainment based which seems to be talk of the devils market

Players player of the season just last year.

We have players for whom it is never their fault no matter what, then we have Dalot who has been played out of position for a long time now but gets very little grace given to him for that. When he got a run at RB under Ten Hag he did fine and got a measure of praise, but now he is stuck filling into the position Amorim has nobody else for.

He is flexible, does the job asked of him, he is rarely injured, he doesn't complain, he is basically the perfect squad player.

Wwould I take a large bid for him? Sure, I'd take a large bid for anybody. But he isn't a player I would be pushing out the door.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,940 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Dalot being 'good', versatile and nearly always fit isnt given the importance it deserves.

Dorgu might aid in that repsect, but as it is if we assume Shaw is useless as a LWB option then we have

    LWB - Dorgu, Dalot
RWB - Amad, Dalot, Dorgu (?), Mazraoui.

Sell Dalot and we have have to replace him with a LWB and RWB signing. IMO.

Do people not know who Andy Mitten is, what his background is?

Someone above described him as a barstool football fan - well he's been going to United home and away since the 70s or something like that, calling him a barstooler is a bit rich coming from someone in Ireland.

He's a pretty well respected individual around the club, and certainly has contacts and has off the record conversations with everyone specifically because he never talks out of school, never reveals his sources and everyone at the club knows that.

For those that don't know, he was one of the people who started the UWS fanzine.

You’re completely misunderstanding what is meant by ‘barstool.’ It’s not about Andy Mitten’s history as a supporter or his connections (which nobody questioned), it’s about the style and quality of his analysis. Nobody questioned his attendance at matches - just the surface-level way he talks about football, which is exactly what barstool implies. It's fine, he is what he is. He's just not for me. Not a big deal.
