Have an area of 'patio' that I want to refresh and tidy up.

    It's approximately 12ft wide and 30ft long.

Is it feasible to just lay a fresh layer of concrete on top of the existing concrete.

It will only be for foot traffic.

What would be the minimum depth to lay and what bonding method would you recommend.

Hi, is it a single piece of concrete without cracks or control joints? What's the depth that you are thinking of pouring?

No is the short answer. There are exceptions but you need to be going over it with a least a 2 inch depth. Any issues if not rectified will translate into the new concrete.

Break it out and go again would be my advice.

There are control joints in the existing concrete.

Was planning at least 2 inches of new concrete.

I think then that it can be done if you pour it in bays so that the control joint is respected. The surface prep needs to be very good (hit it hard with a high-pressure gun) and then treat it with a good bonding agent. Then control the cure by covering it in a tarp so that it cures evenly. If you mix it youself then you might be able to add fibers to the concrete to help with increase the strength.
