Do all 2014/15 automatic A4's have a DSG gearbox?

ChatGPT says that only sportier models have DSG and that Tiptronic (based on normal automatic technology) and CVT automatics are the widely available options.

It also says DSG's are found in A3's

Is this accurate? I was writing off getting another Audi A4 cos of stories abounding about DSG weakness in older cars

If A3's didn't have DSG I'd consider those too.

Are non DSG auto boxes reliable?

I thought the B8 models have Multitronic, (CVT) and the B9 are DSG (if we’re talking regular 2.0 diesel ones)

Multitronic had a bit of a bad rep 20 years ago on the B6 A4 but I think they were much improved later on

    multitronic

Looking around it would appear the multitronic isn't that much better than a DSG if buying a 100k miles / 2015 car and wanting reliability for another 100K miles (my reasonably successful approach to date with manual gearboxed Audis

Avoiding a particular car because it has a DSG gearbox is unnecessary. There are thousands of DSG cars on the road.

But if that class of gearbox stands out in the unreliability stakes (espec as the car ages: my hunting ground), what does 1000's of them on the road matter?

I'm avoiding VAG DSG altogether, not so much a particular car. Buying at 10yrs to run an above average £££ repair bill 4 yrs on..?

Remember Windows - 8 sold in the millions but bombed!!

In that case you should probably buy a Toyota then

That's the thinking. I'm just ditherimg about an IS300h battery lasting the distance. No point in jumping out of the mechanical pan and into the electrical fire. Seems they can be repaired / refurbished to extract the remainder of Toyota relaibility.

Had a test drive in one: nice motor and not as ubiquitous as the A4 with it..

If you're test driving an auto A4 check it pulls away cleanly on a hill. My Da had a 2015 one (I think it was CVT box) that tended to 'hesitate' when hill starting.

But a DSG can be repaired as well for similar cost. When it comes to newer cars you just have to pick your poison.

First time driving an automatic was 2yrs ago always had a manual, anyhow this one has a DSG gearbox which went on me driving home from the west one Sunday evening. Total cost to replace and labour was €3,400. Mechanic said they usually go round 100k miles mark, when I bought for 40k 2 yrs ago it was a 3yr old there was no mention of this. Has put me off the car altogether but not sure what to change to but also don't really wanna go bk to manual.

Lexus? What was your DSG car

Dealers are willing to provide a Lexus main dealer battery health check on 2014-15 cars.

But these don't give a figure on % of life vs new (e.g. 70% of original capacity)

How do you obtain a more objective insight into this important parameter.

I'm not finding myself swayed by "ah sure everyone knows Toyotas, they last forever..."

I have an Audi with 380k kms and a multitronic gearbox. Still going strong.

I gather DSG's are the most problematic.

You do a lot of motorway driving/you mechanically sympathestic?
