It’s a yellow card offence at worst and that’s only because it stops a counter attack, and early at that.

Once again, Arsenal have a ridiculous sending off that has never happened to any other team before and never will happen to any other team.

Once again, there will be any amount of examples of similar tackles made in games played this season, where a yellow card wasn’t even given, never mind a red.

Is anyone surprised? Arteta needs to go full Mourinho at this point because the PGMOL have made their approach clear, they’re not going to stop. Speak out, take the fines.

Personally I don't think it's a red card and that it is a wrong decision.

But saying that, it's slightly worse than a yellow card because of how deliberate it is. It's a tactic that Arsenal employ - deliberately slowing the game down with fouls to prevent counter attacks, so this deliberate action combined with the foul above the ankle are probably why Oliver gave the red card. Not that I agree with him. Just trying to play devil's advocate.

Not sure what Arsenal are complaining about

A dangerous foul on a player in full flight.

Arteta takes off an attacking midfielder and brings on a LB when needing to win the game. It's not the first time he's done this either this season. The safety first approach is going to cost them the league, not referees.

    Bournemouth flying.

Surely a massive test up next for Liverpool

Arsenal coping OK at the start of the second half with 10men but Wolves should have at least one on the scoresheet in the last few mins

That's bullshít tbh. Every team would make that foul, probably in every generation of football.

Liverpool and City in recent years have been the biggest tactical foul experts high in the opponent's half and can't remember a sending off for any of them.

I thought it was a yellow myself for MLS. Delaney explained pretty well at the break why the ref decided red and VAR didnt deem it a clear error. Studs up, cynical, dangerous.

Arsenal should still win though, stay solid and be brave on the counter.

EDIT:Fully deserved red for Wolves now. Arsenal will definitely win this, will be a great boost for their momentum.

10 v 10 in the Arsenal game. Gomes sent off, stupid second yellow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,404 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Wolves ruining it.

Down to 10 now themselves. Gomes

It was a sending off for violent conduct, not for a tactical fouls which have been getting punished all season with yellows.

It can be debated as a dangerous challenge with regard to a red alright. It was already a cast-iron yellow anyway.

That is a worse tackle than the arsenal challenge. Yet it only gets s a yellow card. I know it's a second yellow so doesn't matter too much. But how can he give different cards there.

Wolves down to 10 now aswell.

I thought it was a red on the first clip I saw which was from behind. It looked like he stamped down the inside of his Achilles and calf. Then they showed the angle in the photos someone posted above and you can see it's mostly on the foot so I think red is harsh.

VAR should have sent the ref to the monitor I think because surely seeing the other angle would have made him realise his mistake. VAR themselves have probably agreed with the ref because he's said I'm sending him off for studs up challenge and that's all they look for.

Jose Sa is stealing a living as a keeper. He’s atrocious

If you think that the professional fouling and delaying the game tactics of Newcastle, Arsenal & Man City are the same as every other team in the league, I suggest you watch more games.

    Arsenal get their goal

    Wolves have sh1t the bed

Havertz almost trying to get it ruled out for offside 🤣

    A few sore lads now.

Some nasty challenges coming in from wolves, red needs to take control. Gomes stamp with studs up on a standing ankle gets a yellow, regardless of it being a 2nd.

Calafiori with another clutch goal since his first vs City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,038 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

it really isn’t, it’s a complete cynical professional foul so eliminating those from the game would not Fcuk over the game. Wrong decision from the ref at first glance all the same

Arsenal hold on for the win.

Wolves can really only blame themselves. Gomes clown

    Big fooking win for Bournemouth

Everton still up in injury time

In fairness Arsenal showed balls today. Big win for them, a draw really would have put them well behind in the title race

Absolute rubbish, take off the anti Arsenal goggles and look at it objectively, it's one of the worst decisions of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,609 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Well holy moly I called all the subs!

Elliott, Darwin and Endo triple sub to see it out

Danns and Chiesa come on late on!

That was hugely one sided though, my word. Worst team I've seen in the league at Anfield this season. Even Accrington Stanley played better than that. Men against boys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,024 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

There's no debate. It's pretty much universally deemed a terrible decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,609 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Yep awful time to play them, even worse that it's away after a midweek away European game while they get to train all week focused only on Liverpool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,609 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Enciso on Endo was more of a red than the Arsenal kid for me. Enciso got away lucky

Nah, he's nothing like Robson, Charlton or Zidane and none of them make sense.

I do see a little bit of Seedorf in the way he plays but you have to be careful because everyone takes that as you saying he's going to be as good as Seedorf was which is a completely different statement
