I am with Virgin Media, I used to have 500Mb broadband but upgraded to 1G, when you get a new modem does it change your IP adress?

just restarting the average modem will reset it's IP

Unless you pay for static IP addresses (usually with a business account) your IP can change at any time (for example after a modem restart).

Typically the modem will request an IP address when starting up. That is assigned for a specific time to live. The modem should request a renewal before that expiry time so the IP is maintained.

If replacing the modem, expect a new IP to be assigned.

Unless you have specific requirements to always have the same IP you will always have changing IP addresses, new modem or not. Static IP probably costs extra.
