    Lol.

"Since I don’t have “official” access to this I’d have to use

    alternative

methods to watch it (glances at eye-patch hanging on the monitor), and can’t find myself even considering going to the effort"

I don't see it as a big effort. I will give but a try if its utter rubbish I will stop watching it and let it be known how bad it was but in the case it that it might actually turn out to be good I will say so too. I am doubtful for. Maybe it will surprise. We just have to wait and see.

Reviewer on Ireland AM this morning said this was a good Action movie. I think that tells us all we need to know that it will be sh!it. Even the devices in it are not right for there time also he said Section 31 were heros who saved the Universe lol. Just goes to show how little he knows and how bad this will be by the sounds of it. Section 31 are supposed to be the unofficial Federation spy agency as we know like the Romulans Tal Shiar or the Cardassians Obsidian order. That is what they are meant to be.

Just curious. Did anyone ever here what the Klingon Spy agency is called? No great empire could survive without one.

I wonder do the Ferengi have one. You would think it woukd be easier for them with their super sensitive hearing.

One of the reviews I saw "it tries so hard to not be Trek"

    Another "Discovery era stuff"

But with the setting of the film more outside the Federation it might be more tolerable.

I seen it on Thursdays Ireland AM.

"One of the reviews I saw "it tries so hard to not be Trek"

Yes the reviewer on Ireland AM said something similar.

Im pretty shocked this was on Ireland AM's radar.

Me too!! Ireland AM must have improved it's content since I last watched it (Possibly about 20 years ago).

Ireland AM I think do a review of what's coming up on streaming platforms so Section 31 is probably a highlight of this week rather than them being more into Trek or scifi. The TV slot usually gives a decent run through of what's going to drop.

Didn’t hear it myself but I wonder was it more a preview and expectations than an actual review though? I don’t see any reviews or commentary from anywhere else claiming that they’ve seen it.

Can't imagine Tommy Bowe got exclusive access to advance screenings of Star Trek 🤣

Every Sunday on the last 10 minutes of the program thay review and preview shows.

Yes it could have been a highlight but the way he talked about I thought he had seen it.

    Yes it might have been.

Lol no. Someone from outside who reviews TV shows comes in and chat's to them about them.

It sounds so bad that I actually can't tell if he is joking about the Vulcan or not 🤣

No surprise there. How this ever got made will be a mystery to me, it was obvious from the beginning it wasn’t for Trek fans and it’s not even fun for everyone else.

Throwing Rachel Garrett in sums up the current state of Trek leadership, no regard for the canon or universe that was built over 50 years, just throw out any old crap and give Trek fans a name that they recognise.

    It's actually true.

The Vulcan looking guy is a robot controlled by a tiny alien inside his head.

    Jesus wept.

Slammed here too - considering that many of these sites heeped praise on Discovery, and had it up there as one of the best Trek series overall - this does not bode well

Its as bad as they say it is. I am 42 minutes in and that's enough for me. It's just pure rubbish. Such a waste of film or code whatever it's on. The first 9 minutes are bearable that's about it. It's all downhill after that. It could have been good but just goes downhill then. Even them first 9 minutes are not very Star Trek they are more like something out of Dune. Fair play to anyone who manages to finish this rubbish but I will not be one of them.

This has nothing, absolutely nothing, going for it. The usual "rag tag" character group that nobody cares about, a main character that's borderline unwatchable, Discovery style Section 31 also unwatchable, it's a failed TV series that was turned into a TV movie so that'll kill any hope there was for the writing… I actually don't think I'll bother. It'll be the only thing in the entire franchise that I won't have watched.

I dont know if I'll watch it at all. If I dont, it will be the first live action outing of trek that I won't have seen.

Being a die hard trekkie, I might go back and have a goose some some day. But I actually find the reviews shocking. When the shills who praised discovery s4 and 5, tell u this is BAD, VERY, VERY BAD. then you know its well shy of the mark..

Stay safe trekkies, I lookforward to reading more of your thoughts

I'm certainly not renewing my Paramount plus subscription for it. I might check it out during my Strange New Worlds window.

    This too shall pass.

From the first sentence of the article:

Section 31, a movie that, in our eyes, marks the first fail of the new Star Trek…

Still a bit biased by the looks of it. I wonder what happened…did the perks from Paramount dry up or something?

But yea…it’s sounding pretty bad. A general question for those brave souls who did watch: Is there any interesting stuff related to the Lost Era featured (beyond the inclusion of Garrett)? The only thing that might have grabbed my attention would have been a lean into Lost Era, and potential a feel of a more advanced version of the TOS movie era.

If nothing like that happens, this show he nothing at all to offer I feel.

Thanks to having Paramount and a storm day in bed I gave it a go.

Best I could say is it passes very fast. It's just a totally vacant action movie who's biggest let down is it can't manage the heart that makes the good versions of the genre like Avengers or Guardians good. It very much reminds of those poor DC attempts. Or like Picard season 1 if you took out famous characters.

At no point do you feel like you are watching Star Trek though. I literally forgot it was supposed to be Trek after 5 minutes and I think you will enjoy it a lot more once the brain makes that switch. Didn't see a uniform or nacelle throughout the whole movie and the tricorders are literally an android phone.

Also the Vulcan/robot is doing a really really annoying Robert Sheehan impersonation for the whole movie.

Don't bother watching. You will miss nothing other than an average movie that fits nowhere into Star Trek.

Didn't hate it as much as I expected to! How's that for faint praise 😄

I've always liked the idea of "Star Trek is a place", as opposed to a particular set of people or style of story telling. Like there's a lot of stories and styles told in the place of "Dublin, Ireland" – just as there can be different stories and styles told in the place of "Star Trek". And this one certainly isn't the same type of story or style as TNG, DS9, Voy, LD, SNW. It's slightly difficult to even compare them.

So the TNG fan in me just checked out after the first 5 minutes or so, but the schloky sci-fi action movie fan in me stuck around and thought it was… fine? Or fun enough anyway.

Really felt like a reworked pilot for a TV show, which I believe it was? All the main characters are given elaborate set-ups and almost none of it pays off. Deltan? Well, not for long. Chamelioid? So what. Rachel Garret? Nobody cares. Exile from the 20th century eugenics wars? No consequence. I imagine they'll all get their exposition episode in the first seas… oh.

I put it on 2x speed past a few of the fight / action scenes. To each their own; I tend to zone out during that stuff anyway. Just blah blah blah, skip to the end and show me who's still standing.

The story? Big bomb's going to blow up the universe. Whatever.

It's also very Discovery-adjacent, with the writing, direction, camera work (can't stand still for half a second), and visuals. But I think due to it being a) just 90 minutes long, and b) actually and explicitly nothing much to do with Starfleet or the TOS/TNG part of the "Star Trek" place that we're used to, I kinda think I might prefer this to most of Discovery. Again, faint praise! I hated most of Discovery.

But if they can keep that Disco-energy contained in just one of these every couple or few years, maybe they can also do the odd 90 minutes of the Star Trek stories I do enjoy. That wouldn't be too bad at all.

Will watch it tonight. But after reading the reviews online and in here my expectations are so, so, low, it's might not be as bad anymore.

There’s a risible scene at the end where two people who haven’t really given you the impression they’re into each other have to hold hands and stare into their impending doom. The pair in question have shared their backstories with each other, but there’s no suggestion that they are anything more than just people working together on a job, let alone friends.

    JJ Trek in a nutshell.

I think it's better than Discovery only because it stays well well away from everything got to do with Star Trek.

Discovery had to constantly reference stuff it didn't really understand or fuk with established Trek history.

This I watched as a stand alone the same way I would some generic sci-fi show not called Star Trek.

I’m routinely spammed by the Star Trek online shop after I bought that «RITOS» T-shirt aaages ago.

I’d block them, but they give a fascinating view of how merch is being mis-managed when it comes to Trek lately. I got the following in my inbox today…

    IMG_2204.jpeg

It’s like….why even? Any guesses how these will sell? Will any sell?

    Someone approved this crap….
