Has she got the new sim replacement recently?

Ive travelled twice this month and both times roaming and data worked perfectly without me doing anything.

    here’s my settings.

Unfortunately no. I meant to order it for her but never got around to it.

I might put those settings into her phone and see how it goes.

    Thanks

I’ve used Vodafone eSIM a few times when abroad and 48 wouldn’t work. The kids are 48 and roaming has worked the last couple of times in the Canaries but probably no harm having the Vodafone eSIM there as a back up.

They do a 5GB add on for €5 and a 20GB one for €15. Worth a fiver for peace of mind.

Thanks for that. I added the lycamobile eSim on to her phone as she was practically walking out the door to go to the airport, €10 for a package that gives 21GB EU Roaming allowance.

Will know later this evening how it all goes......😁😁😁

The only way this would work is if they surrender the number to them too otherwise it just gets cancelled when porting to a new network

5G is now working on Google Pixel phones with the latest December update

Can anyone explain the slow data speed while on a call eg 120kbs v 20mbs when not on a call.

    I have a Huawei P20, so no 5G.

I appreciate it's relevant to 48, but I'm sticking with my 7.99 plan so no 5G yet for me. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,525 ✭✭✭pizzahead77

Because they don't have VoLTE so data speeds switch to 3G while on a call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,037 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Any idea will it be added at some stage?

Or is it too much of an effort for them?

It is a bit of a pain.

Thanks...that's what I thought and hoped would not be the cause. I moved from Postmobile tomgwt away from thoa. PM have no internet at all while on a call. Sometimes on a call you have to check the internet so having to hang up, search, and redial is not ideal.

Will I have the same problem.on Three prepay ? Or Go Mo?

If I had a 5g phone, would calls still drop to 3g?

Im on the unlimited plan and speeds are getting too slow for streaming at nite

Sometimes down to a few megabits/s

    Hopefully just a holiday issue

I've never had any working data whilst on a 48 call. Anyone know why or is there a fix?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,349 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Data speeds so slow during peak times at the moment, have been for a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,895 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

That's my experience too. Add that to the little to no data while on a call and I will be leaving 48 when my top up expires. In my 2 months with 48 it's gone from fast/acceple to very slow in the last 2 weeks.

If someone has their main phone number with 48, how/why would they give that away? It’s not like the price can be transferred to a different phone number?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,265 ✭✭✭Glaceon

The only networks that support it at the moment are Vodafone, Three, Eir, GoMo and Sky. So all of the others will drop to 3G or 2G during a call.

Voda top ups don’t expire, unused acccounts do.

“To keep your pay as you go plan active you need to top up every 28 days.

If you do not top up after 28 days, you will only be able to make calls and use data if you have a credit balance on your account. If you don’t top up for 6 months your number will become inactive and no longer be able to make calls. If you do not top up for a further 2 months (**8 months altogether**) your number will be disconnected.

To prevent your number from becoming inactive you will need to top up with a minimum of €5.00. This will reactivate any exiting balance you have on your plan”

Current non prepay plan per unit charges/bundles info:

    https://n.vodafone.ie/content/dam/gowingmyself/pdfs/terms/rates/pay-as-you-go-pricing-sheet-October-2024.pdf

Just set up a calendar reminder on your main driver to send a text from your backup every 7ish months to your main driver number.

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

I would top up €5/10/15 and leave it off, also make sure data is switched off or you may get hammered per MB anytime you switch the old phone on.

If you top up €20 or more you’ll activate a monthly prepay ‘plan’ not sure which one is the default.

Just send a text to your main (driver) phone number every 7 month - put a reminder in your main driver phone's calendar incase you forget & don’t use it or Voda will wipe whatever balance you have left when they disconnect you month 8 with no activity.

Anytime you top up €20 you’ll activate one of these 28 day plans so €5/10/15 only recharges.

As I said keep data off until you login to Vodafone or text to purchase a Add On bundle, looks like €1.99 per MB or €2.29 charge for data upto 100MB then 3c a MB, either gonna burn your balance as soon as you switch a smartphone data connection on.

Vodafone top-up vouchers expire six months after issue date (used to be two years until a few months ago).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭beachhead

A mystery alright.Top up every 6 mths to keep the number active. If you don't top up you have a limited time before outgoing calls/texts are stopped is my reading. After another period you lose the number forever and any remaining credit.

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

Top up €5 minimum and send a text every 6 months if you don’t use it, reset the top/text in your main driver phone calendar every time you do this^

The system may need not just a top up to be considered use, it’s IT dependent but I couldn’t find anything on Voda website if a top up itself is solely sufficient, it’s not exactly clear, most networks around the world need a chargeable item not just a top up, you could assume the €5 top up covers this on Vodafone which would be a anomaly.

Sure Voda U.K. and other Vodas I’ve used is a chargeable event in X time frame, and Voda NZ was a top up and a chargeable event, Voda Au I think may have been the same or like UK chargeable event.

    I’ll search some

Found payg support, little info, 3 small sections https://n.vodafone.ie/support/pay-as-you-go-hub.html

Then found this, V Eire doesn’t need a chargeable event every 6 months it needs a top up as far as I can tell, unless it’s buried in Payg T&C. Guess it’s a way for Voda to fleece more cash out ya, sure Voda U.K. is chargeable event not a top up (which may or may not be classed as a chargeable event?). Having used so many V national operators it’s hard to keep up with them all haha

There's a thread on Vodafone about PAYG draining credit even when you don't use it. Keep an eye on your credit. Had the same issue with three which is why I left and moved to 48

^Further to the above, Voda payg terms part conflict with website info “inactive” (no chargeable event), we may change this we may change that = we most likely may not have clue what we are talking about.

    Nonsensical.

Why would anyone not buy a cheapo 30 day bundle given the standalone rates in Ire on all networks are astronomical.

It’s much cheaper to have a UK 1p Mobile sim roaming in Ireland and call/text UK, Ireland & EU for 1p a minute or 1p text. It also roams on all 3 Eire networks ;)
