Auto Electrics: Renault Zoe Indicators Not Working.

Hi all, - the Indicators have stopped working on my Renault Zoe EV but they have stopped in the most peculiar way.

so, if I press the Hazard switch on the dashboard the 2 green indicator lights on the dashboard flash as normal, but no indicator lights show outside.

Then if I turn off the hazards and start the car and put the right indicators on the green right indicator flashes on the dash , but only twice then goes off. - no lights showing on outside.

then if I put left indicator on the left green light comes on the dash as normal …. but for 2 times and then goes of , again no indicator lights show on the outside.

However- if now I press the hazard switch or try the indicators again - absolutely nothing , no lights no ticks no indicators showing outside the vehicle, no green lights on the dash - totally dead (indicator/flashers wise)

If I turn off the car and lock up 10 minutes later come back it kind of 'resets' itself and so I can put on hazards and green lights on the dash flash and the ticking noise is there (I predict its a speaker behind dash rather than physical mechanical flasher/relay) - again absolutely no indicator bulbs flash outside.

I have tried taking out every orange indicator bulb (bar the drivers side mirror indicator bulb because I ran out of time) to check to see if any were blown and they werent. - But here is another strange thing , with the 2 rear orange indicator bulbs removed I was expecting the hazard green arrows on the dash to flash erratically light they normally do when an indicator bulb blows or is removed but instead they still flashed at the same normal rate! - I thought that was strange.

I have checked all the fuses in the UCH box under the bonnet by the 12v battery and they are OK, not blown.

I have not had a chance to check all the fuses in the glove compartment fusebox yet.

Screenshot of what diagnostics threw up:

    I don't think it's that strange of a problem.

The hazards can work when the car is off, and so may use a different supply side circuit than the "indicator" function, despite being the same bulb in the end.

My guess is that theres is no feedback or self check function when running in "hazard" mode, but there is when in "indicator" mode as it's being controlled by a BCM ECU (Body Control Module). Once the ECU recognises that there is too high of a current flow (or equally, no current flow), it goes into an error state after two clicks, and disables the feedback on the dashboard/speaker.

Have you gone though the circuit as best you can with a multimeter? Is there any additional fuse boxes that you haven't been able to check - even which would normally supply a different circuit?

The erratic flashing was once a function of a flasher relay having additional current flowing OR the bimetallic strip not heating as quickly, and therefore also cooling faster. TBH I'm still not 100% on the logic here, as I've read different thinks online, but in any case nowadays the flashing is normally controlled by the BCM. Do you know if there's a flash relay in the circuit?

If you set the Hazards on, can you find anywhere in the circuit that has a cyclical 12V on/off?

What module is generating those codes? The UCH is Renault's body control module, but combustion engine (ICE) Renault's control supply voltage to the various circuits via the UPC which in those vehicles is the under bonnet fuse box. They're notoriously problematic for faults like this. Can your scan tool do an actuation test on the indicators?

thanks - The strangest thing I was finding was that the green indicators on the dash were cutting off after 2 flashes , but did not when the hazard switch was pressed in, and even then when the hazard switch is pressed in no indicator bulbs light up on the outside of the car. I have not checked the fuses in the glove compartment fusebox yet, but I will be next when I have time.

good point - yes the diagnostics software can indeed test the indicators at will manually - so I must try that next time I am out there.

yes its on the UCH box of tricks (BCM/UCH) which is the one under the hood

on the UPC/EMM unit there seems no parameters for the Indicators just headlights/sidelights etc :
