Any inaugural celebration parties around on Monday afternoon to celebrate the new overlord?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,045 ✭✭✭KilOit

I think that might be it, if he's lucky he might have gotten similar to his previous crowd sizes in 2017 but he will never come close to Obama's crowd in 2009.

Even on a warm sunny day, it will never happen

Americans are weird, going to rallies and inaugurations.

    such a bonkers nation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,109 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Over 99% of Americans don't attend rallies and 99.9999% won't be at any inauguration.

You could say the exact same thing here about the people who attend party conferences or who'll be present outside the Dáil when the government first meets.

Exact same percentages. Most don't care that much.

yea, you're right. if I had a euro every time I saw someone wearing a suit made out of Simon Harris flags….

You're always going to have more extremes in a far bigger country.

It's the exact same percentages in terms of those who are politically charged enough to care that much to attend conferences or inaugurations.

”Centrists” may want to note. As flawed the Democratic ticket can be, has been and will likely be again, you’ll rarely find opponents of Donnie having to address members of their support base wearing nappies, head bandages that barely made sense to start with or all other flavours of insane BS that the MAGA-verse emits on the regular.

To repeat something I wrote after the election, despite the Americans voting for something stupid, does not by vurtue of the vote make that thing any less stupid. Like or not “Centrist friends”…we can and will point out the stupidity of Donnie and his MAGA circus every single time we are given examples of it. As much as you might have liked Donnie’s win to give you an easier time with this…I’m afraid that’s not how it works with reality.

Not only them. Can you imagine the security types who would have to start setting up in their observation positions and perimeter guard through the night before? If it’s -10 for the inauguration, what would it be at 2am?

I’m going to get a sample of it next week, off to a military exercise in Alaska. I don’t expect it to be pleasant.

From what I've heard, Anchorage is the most pleasant place to be in the winter. Fairbanks the worst pretty much any time of year, 100F in the summer, -50F in the winter. Good luck.

They've voted for the circus because the so-called grown ups didn't work for them. This is the consequence of left wing liberalism whether you want to believe that or not. It's the backlash to that. It's not just the US, they are just further down the road.

Whether it's mind-numbing incompetence, mass migration, a crippled justice system, a woke ideology of insanity constantly pushed on to people who know it's all crazy (and they've tolerated it for over 20 years), sheer hypocrisy when it comes to corruption.

The most acute problems are manifest in the cities they control where Democrats are most vulnerable to the consequences of their own policies. That is where it is most visible for Americans.

They see decline and all they want is an alternative. The only alternative at present is Trump.

What I feel many really want now is a Reagan type alternative but that's not on offer, unfortunately. Someone who can intelligently advocate for new standards and start reversing the social issues.

They'll have to get through the clown show first.

Either way the majority found the Democrats unpalatable.

To top it all the LA fires is more hideous Democrat incompetence on full display. It's a microcosm of what many felt before the election that they've got to see on full view after they made the only choice they could make in the election.

Its funny how most left wing Americans are still right of most European countries. You'd think by your argument that we would be in a collapsing mess over here. We seem to be managing pretty well.

    "a woke ideology"

Oh FFS, enough of the culture war nonsense please!

It's beyond embarrassing at this stage.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

People write "woke" because they can't spell "enlightened", "educated" and "empathic".

    I land in Fairbanks.

I've been there once before, in the middle of summer and it was pleasant enough.

How do you compare the scandalous loss of life due to the incompetence of Trump during Covid against the response to California fires.

Is it left wing wokery to blame for the fires but simply an act of god for Trump Covid response

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,109 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

This is the go-to line to try to avoid the fact many people care about this and they don't like the direction of travel. You'd rather all the craziness is not spoken about and is just ignored.

The problem the left has is that it's not being ignored.

You know it's thought that the "they/them" ads for the Republicans played primarily at sport events had a big impact on the outcome and may even have swung it decisively to Trump in the end.

Many people care about this, they don't like the direction of travel and they are voting with their ballot.

    That's why we have Trump.

Keep the ostrich mentality if you wish. That's the Democratic Party all over - don't fix the problem, insult people who disagree, stick the fingers in the ears and pretend there is no problem.

It's not working out well, is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,612 ✭✭✭nachouser

Trump won because a sizeable amount of American's who would normally vote, won't turn up to vote for a woman to be President. It's that simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,109 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

They would vote for a black man to be president but not a woman? Nope, not buying it. Another Democratic Party excuse down from HQ. Do you think Kamala Harris was a good candidate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,048 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

They voted for an unknown rather than a woman in 2016.

When Trump ran against a man, Biden, he lost.

He runs against another woman and wins again.

But it is all down to other things I'm sure.

Yeah down to other things like Harris being part of the disasterous Biden administration plus she wasn't able to properly spell out how her policies would differ from Biden.

Anyway in other news President Elect Donald Trump is on his way to Washington as we speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,033 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

You apportion trump's win to the democrats failing.

Quite telling you cannot apportion any achievements of the man to his victory.

I'm paying absolutely no heed to the bluster posted by you to try and hide that fact.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,048 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Well I for one am convinced. Harris was vice potus to a man that beat Trump in the previous election. Since when Trump had stolen classified documents, been convicted of fraud etc etc.

But you are right about Harris not having clear policies. She never stood a chance against Trump as he had a concept of a plan.

Would ya go away with that nonsense - when Trump banned travel into the US in the early stages of Covid-19 he was hounded as a racist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 896 ✭✭✭InAtFullBack

It's more than a culture war though.

When Kermit says "To top it all the LA fires is more hideous Democrat incompetence on full display. It's a microcosm of what many felt before the election that they've got to see on full view after they made the only choice they could make in the election." he is not wrong. There is little appetite by the Democrat-led city authority to properly manage water so that water hydrants actually have water in them. However, when it comes to painting them same water hydrants in the LGBTQ rainbow colours, no problem - funding is there first and foremost.

As for "it's beyond embarrassing at this stage" - rightly so, the Democrats priorities are so far up their own derriere they probably enjoy the tickle of it all.

PLoS One identified his Twitter account as a key spread of vaccine misinformation which contributed to the US' extremely high death rate.

The same Trump that was fully behind 'Operation Warp Speed' which led to those 'vaccinations' being developed. Why would he spread vaccine misinformation about the very programme he sponsored? Trump always encouraged vaccination for the vulnerable, never as a mass public vaccination programme.

PLoS is just another hard left-wing NGO who would no doubt be highlighting 'vaccine damage' had Trump insisted on a compulsory vaccination programme for every American citizen.

He only banned travel, partially and belated, from China. It was racist because it was based on China being the problem when the virus had already spread. It was performative nonesense.

And we know this because Trump then spend the next few months lying about the real danger (he admitted it saying he didn't want to create panic) and then starting a war against anyone that disagreed with him included the head of the CDC.

His handling of the entire thing was a lesson on how not to be a leader.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,048 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

So he was fully behind operation warp speed but didn't agree with it aims?

Note that not one poster has challenged the LA point (because they can't).

If that disaster had played out before the election imagine what the numbers would have been.

Yet we have posters here constantly eyeing Trump for his faults but not even acknowledging how disastrous and incompetent the Democrats have been especially in the cities they control that have led to…Trump.

It's infuriating they don't want to see where the problem lies.

The problem is not Trump. The problem is the entitlement, corruption and incompetence of the Democratic Party which is why we are where we are.

They don't want to see it.

And thus nothing will change. I mean, even California could now very conceivably go red - that's how bad the situation is.
