Strange wire - what is it for.

    I was looking at a wire hanging out of a wall recently. It is shoulder height in a hallway. Located perhaps where you would expect an alarm keypad to be. I am a bit puzzled though about its purpose.

    Has anyone any suggestions? It appears to have an unusual amount of cores.
