Yea they have a 7 hole course as well as an 18 hole course.

7 holes is a bit of an odd size for a course so I guess that's one of the places they ran out of cash.

The club house wouldnt bother me to be honest. I couldn't tell you that last time I went into one to have food, or a pint… I'm very time precious in my current stage of life for golfing!

I'm from the rural midlands, and a lot of clubs around me put in big club houses during the 90's/00's. Some of them are only open and operational the few odd hours over the weekend these days, and some have not seen a penny put into them since and are quite a sorry sight!

Just give me a well managed course with available tee times and I'm happy.

Synergy Golf manage Grange Castle course I think. Must be doing a good job.

I was a member there for 4 years when I lived in Dublin, and it was well managed to be fair. Course was always in good nick and I was a big fan of the turf driving range! Lads in the pro shop were sound, and I used to like the fact that if you got there early before your round, they'd let you out on the 7 hole to play 1 or 2 warm up holes.

The down sides were, the time sheet was quite busy, so you had to be on the ball when booking a slot. Especially when the world and its mother took up golf after covid! Also, while its an aesthetically pleasing track, its not the most challenging and very forgiving in spots, you could go round after round there without coming close to losing a golf ball! Its definitely worth playing though if in the Dublin area, and looking for a reasonable priced round of golf on a well maintained track.

No, the 7 holes were part of the original course when it was first built.

They took 2 holes from them to build the 18, and just left the remaining 9 as a sepelarate short course.

When they were going to build the additional 9, they were going to take a couple of those holes to be part of it. The start of the new works were visible as to your left as you played down the par 5 12th hole.

@billy3sheets I think it's a perspective thing re synergy running it. I left the course because of the synergy management.

They maintain the course well, and the course is busy, so they're doing well on terms of it being profitable for them I'd imagine.

But their focus is traffic and volume, they shrunk the available tee times for members, especially on Saturdays, in order to prioritise societies, etc…

I get it, they got a 10 year lease on the place, and you have to make hay…but it wasn't great to be on the member side of it

When I was captain of a Dublin based society I was one of the first society outings the week after they opened, we rocked up and they said bunkers out of play, there was zero sand in any bunker lol, looks like it came on some since then

Do any of you switch back to spiked shoes for winter golf? Or stick with the spikeless all year round?

Spiked almost year-round for me. It feels like I've no grip with any spikeless shoe I've tried. Only use them if the course is baked and bone dry or during practice. Spikeless feels like you're wearing trainers on a greasy football pitch. It's not that my feet are dancing around or screwing hard into the ground, I put it down to playing sports when I was younger.

I spent the summer wearing Nike Air Max spikeless shoes. Mainly for aesthetic reasons because I could wear them on/off the course and wouldn't have to switch after a round.

Switched back to my FootJoys recently and my god, I will never go spikeless again. The feeling of my feet being 'locked in' during a swing wasn't something I realised I missed.

I have ZX7s and had Z765/965 combo set before that. The combo set were second hand had plenty of dents and dings so I didn't notice any extras that I added but the ZX7s were virtually new when I got them. They were pristine so I got head covers for them. I'm glad I did because after almost two years of use, they're still in good shape. The Srixon forged clubs are really soft and mark easily. I don't get the negative attitude to iron covers.

anyone ever tried the thermal winter trousers from Druids? Are they any good?

I got a pair of their summer trousers and they were disappointing, felt very thin and cheap, so want to check before buying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,488 ✭✭✭big_drive

I bought a pair which arrived yesterday. They feel very good when I tried them on. So seem fine. I suppoes I won't know properly until I try them while playing.

Bought 2 tops as well as they were a good price but size seems very big for large. I'm usually ok with most brands in size large but these are very baggy. I've been put off before with their sizing, it seems all over the place

  • Administrators Posts: 55,162 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

funny you say that, I have one of their T-shirts and it’s both a bit baggy and a bit short on me. Their sizing is just a bit weird as you say.

Always go a smaller size with Druids gear think someone mentioned it here before. I find their stuff great once you get sizing right.

If any of ye have any kids into golf, what age did you start introducing the game to them?

  • Administrators Posts: 55,162 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I think most clubs that take juniors start at about age 8. Unfortunately not many will have programmes for kids younger than this.

Ya I wasn't aware of that but it sounds about right based on my purchase

Received an email from my club inviting members to take part in a winter league on the recently installed trackman studio that our new pro looks after. Three rounds of 9 hole singles stableford where WHI applies on three different courses. First one being Adare, closest I’ll ever get to playing there so have signed up!
Just wondered if anyone else’s club does this and if you’ve taken part? It’s a new one for me.

Lads I bought a pair of waterproof socks on Amazon last week. Can't believe i waited so long. Used last weekend at another activity outside of golf and were brilliant. Should be excellent too for golf and take away any potential worry about shoes leaving in a bit

Is the BRS app acting up for anyone? For about the last week it keeps kicking me out whenever I try to access our club timesheet

    The is the message:

    Screenshot_20241111_202529_BRS Golf.jpg

If I access BRS via the Web browser it's fine, but this was intermittent last week when our timesheet opened and constant this evening

    Pain in the A.

I also clicked "logout" and it seems brs don't link into saved user names.

    So have to reset.

Same for me. I saw the error occasionally over the weekend but was able to get past it eventually. Getting the error constantly this evening

Today is the first clear, sunny, crisp day in quite a while so decided to head out for 9 holes.

Forgot how much of a pain the low sun is this time of year. Playing by myself, I lost 3 balls on 5 holes because I couldn't track the ball in the sun. 😔 Just had to give up.

Took my first lesson there on Monday, got out to the range yesterday to try out what I'm working on (moving away from too steep a swing, making sure its inside/out) and boy does it take a lot of concentration to break out of your normal swing.

Hoping to grab nine holes Monday with a friend and interested to see how good/bad it will be mid swing change! Going to expect to come in a few shots worse than before while it beds in
