    It's a really odd thought to turn into a thread? By effective treatment I mean 'People with HIV who take antiretroviral medications as prescribed and who achieve and then maintain an undetectable viral load have effectively no risk of sexually transmitting the virus to people without HIV.'

    Can't recall the last time I got a nurses blood on me while they treated me 🙄

    Also, the HSE spent a lot of money on the U=U (undetectable = Untransmittable) campaign a few years ago to raise awareness

    What's the difference between "no risk" and "effectively no risk". Why can't you just say no risk?

    Also, undetectable does not mean non-existant.

    Yes, absolutely. That nurse in the article is on anti retroviral medication and has an undetectable viral load so it is impossible for her to transmit the virus to anyone else in the very unlikely event her blood somehow got into your bloodstream. In reality, its far more likely a medical professional gets exposed to a patients blood via accidental needle stick, inadvertent blood spatter in eyes etc vs the other way round.

    It’s a long time since I’ve had an aids test . ( unprotected sex as a teen ) . But the nurse was in complete Covid garb to take a blood sample .That was very early 90’s on my first foray into Dublin , but I think at this time when a lot more is known it’s a bit over the top
