    Season greeting

excuse me but I have used coal warehouse smokeless ovoid on our open fire and I found they burn to quickly and they leave behind unburnt pet coke bits.

I do not work for any coal merchant.

At the end if day I just try to help people to get a good deal on there smokeless.

I am very puzzles you say click coal charges a arm and a leg.

When I compared prices after you including the new increase in delivery charges and £ to € exchange rate.

They charge roughly the same has all the other, online coal merchant.

I will keep buying smokeless coal manufactured in Ireland because it cheap than English smokeless coal.

Hope you all have a lovey Christmas.

Lanc Lad has been posting actively in here for maybe the past year. Take him/her at good faith as at the end of the day it's just advice which hopefully is based on experience of using the various products but take anyone's posts with a big pinch of salt. I have followed this thread from the start over 10 years ago, posted a few times and buy ovoids every winter. Here is my advice.

I have a 19kw back boiler stove running 14 rads. The Coal Warehouse ovoids have never failed me. I once got a wet batch as was poorly wrapped on top and over the years I once recall posters on here getting a bad batch, I avoided this I think. I have an external air supply on the stove and digital monitor that regulates the stove temp to 55 degrees to pump the water around the system. The CW ovoids easily maintain this. Lanc Lad I think runs an open fire so comparing apples with oranges.

I bought a 2nd tonne last winter of a different ovoid from a different supplier saving e50 and am very disappointed with it, doesn't keep the same heat and too much ash which smothers the fire. I won't name the product but if anyone wants to know pm me.

Best thing here if you need advice is try ask the posters that have a similar set up, open fire, free standing stove or back boiler stove. Different products may suit different set ups and once you find something that works best for you stick with it unless savings are worth the risk to change

it’s not been 3 years, just over a year 👍🏻 some good advice and some bad advice from them but that. An be said for everyone I guess, I would tend to follow the tried and trusted suppliers and advice from more than one person as should everyone really

New start ups online and donedeal are best avoided and use a payment method where you can issue a chargeback of the fuel is garbage

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Wow, is it only one winter? Felt like 3 with all the posts 😀, edited my post to 1 year

Way too many pages to read through.

    Can anyone help me.

    I'm currently using agrina ovoids.

Looking for ovoids from the north, but don't want petcoke.

Coal warehouse won't ship a full ton, only 740kg to Cork/ Kerry.

I'm looking for good ovoids, 1Ton, from the north.

    Advice please.

In Cork the couriers won't take a ton of coal but at the moment I think it's only Cork. Ie can ship a ton to Kerry.

To get an accurate answer, do you have:

    A open fire

    Or

    A standalone stove

    Or

A stove running rads (if yes, how many rads)

Is it all couriers in Cork or just the ones CW use? There the only supplier to the best of my knowledge that have stated this.

Not sure - it might be just whom ever has the pallet network gig in the area.

In my area it can be one of two crowds- maybe it's just one crowd in Cork and that's why they can dictate terms.

    boru croi beag

    No back boiler

i would welcome any advice as to which ovoids are petcoke free.

I'll probably get 2T, i have the space to store them indoors, and its handy to just buy bulk a few years at a time.

See my posts and page or so back about coal warehouse, id personally not buy from them again, it's no fun burning your way through bad coal, I only had a half tonne but if your looking at 2T make sure you know what your getting first.

So what ovoids dont have petcoke, please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,901 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

personally I’ve never checked what ovoids are made of but I’ve spoken to easy glow and dandy and coal wharehiuse over the years for advice and they are usually very helpful

Think they all do? The difference is the quantity of petcoke some are high and I guess you want some that are low in petcoke.

If you want something that won't burn the stove out and don't mind a slightly lower heat output then Lignite nuggets are an option. We have used them for years. The burn well are easy to light and burn overnight but heat output is lower.

Why not try a couple of bags of lignite nuggets from a local supplier to see if they work out for you?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Seems like a change in the Golden Glow Eco Stove red bags. This is my third year & this batch have larger ovoids, burn longer, with little ash. They are a big improvement. Anyone else noticed the change ?

Ecobrite is the only smokeless coal I know off, which does not contains any pet coke. It is 96% anthracite Duff and 3% bindings agent.

five star fuels sell Ecobrite under the name Hi-lite.

    Ecoglow small is also Ecobrite

Rathwood do half pallets of either eco glow (green bag) or eco stove (red bag).

Could get either, try them out, wiithout commitment to a full pallet, and see how you find it. Wait and save 400kgs may come in at about 250-260 euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,616 ✭✭✭A2LUE42

When did their standard shipping for a tonne change to €110 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,813 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Hi guys, I know this thread is more about bulk purchases, but could anyone recommend somewhere in South Dublin for coal and wood for an open fire, to pick up 5-10 bags of coal or so and a few bags of wood?

    Screenshot_20250112-180217.png

Ordered these at the start of last year, delivery has gone up to €100.

Has anyone a recommendation for coal a big stove with back boiler?

    Have plenty of timber myself.

Coal warehouse ovoids I'm burning and I find them great 450 euro delivered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭Quiet Achiever

DO NOT order coal from Rathwood. Awful experience.

They don't actually have it in stock, not that you could tell from the website.

I ordered 1.5 tonnes at Christmas. Numerous delays and now told they won't be getting it in stock until 31 January.

And i have to wait 10 days for a refund ..…
