No, regional is absolutely controversial both socially and politically.

You need to realise that any attempts to restrict things you don't like would absolutely end up restricting the thing you really do like.

I’ve never come across any real opposition/want from people to have communion and confirmation removed.

And in my years in school, pretty much every child made their communion and confirmation. And today/recently the vast majority catholic children make their communion and confirmation without any fuss.

We’re in 2025 now, not the mid 1950s. Catholicism has nowhere near the same influence, grip and control over peoples lives. Not remotely close!!

It’s as much an occasion/event now as opposed to some indoctrination. Children are not being indoctrinated today or recently . At least not at all in the negative sense that some people are trying to say
