So we have the wonder of shazam, no more do we have to go into hmv and sing or hum things at sales assistants, we can find out at the touch of a button what that tune is.

So what were your last three shazams and why did you check?

    For me

Xanadu by Ummet Ozcan. Played on an ad for a bus company on tv and a cracking tune. My first experience of Mongolian techno. Im a fan.

Be My Baby by the Roxettes. Came on in a film my dad was watching and we all guessed what year it was from.

We are the people by Empire of the sun. A pub moment where nobody could remember who made it, but everybody really liked it.

    What have ye been Shazammin?

I've used it a lot for identifying music used with sports montages/end of year reviews that I recorded from the TV years ago. Music would often have no lyrics, indecipherable lyrics or only an instrumental part of the song was used. The last few I've shazzamed are

    Tubular Bells cover - Plutonic

Into the Night - Julee Cruise

Depth Charge - Cavendish library music

    Never Here - Elastica

[ve never used it with humming though

    1. Poolside - Harvest Moon …. I know the Neil Young original song, I’m a fan of NY but hadn’t encountered this cover before… I hope I don’t hear it again. Sounds like a drunken karaoke version at around 4.30am in some godforsaken dark corner of the earth hotel room. Brutal version. But was curious as to who the butcher(s) was.
    2. The National - Oblivions…From an album of theirs ‘I Am Easy to find’ which I have never listed to too much and it’s been ages.
    3. The Longpigs - She Said…. Couldn’t remember the name of the band although I’d heard them and the song before …. Longpigs are credited with being indie schmindy mid ‘90’s lost and underrated, never saw it myself but Richard Hawley was their lead guitarist before his solo accomplishments.

As the Crow Flies by Tony Joe White.

I love this type of music, and knew it was TJW but couldn't place the song title, it was playing on the Creedon Show on rte1.

All That School for nothing by John Grant. Man has some amazing songs, if somewhat quirky.

Tokoloshe Man by John Kongos, an old classic I had forgotten but I Shazamd it again as it's just so good. Have listened to it quite a few times since that Shazam.

Say you can hear by Men I Trust - Cool tune which I heard when watching The Good Doctor on Amazon Prime

Let me think about it by Ida Corr and Fedde Le Grand - A mid 2000’s “Booty House” tune that I had almost forgotten about until I heard it on the radio in the coffee shop at work

Houdini by Eminem - Pretty weak compared to Eminem’s old efforts from the late 90’s and early 00’s

”If I offended you, you needed it!!” - Corey Taylor

Nice thread. Getting some nice suggestions for music to listen to!

Sell Out by Reel Big Fish - I have a teenager who loves funky brass type music. Not sure where we heard this. Most likely car radio.

Damhsa Fíann (feat. William John Morse Palmer) by Breath Upon The Flame, Eimear Quinn & William Palmer - Heard it on the car radio and the more it went on the better it got. I just had to find out who and what it was.

Tilted by Christine and the Queens - again heard it in the car. Teenager thought it was cool. I couldn't remember who sang it. Even after finding out the name it didn't mean anything to me.

just one , not heard it before but deffo an ear worm was used in an X meme, sorta Green dayish in vibe and seems to be a "hits hard" song for millennials that grew up with it

The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright

    just one ,

    You've only ever shazamed once?…ever?

    My 3 are:

Like a River - Muito Kaballa - Thought I recognised her voice from another song - still haven't confirmed if it's the same artist as I don't know the name of the other song…!

Floating on a Moment - Beth Gibbons - heard it lots of times to the point it was in my head, had to find out what it was.

Trans Europe 18 - Keeley - Liked it and didn't know it (!?)

York - On the Beach (CRW remix). Didn't recognize the bit at the end, was in EastEnders one night, played in the R&R when Ronnie and Roxy were still around

I use Shazam a lot, I like keeping the library topped up so I'm never stuck for a tune to play.

Does spotify or one of those not record it as a playlist?

Whigfield - Think of You - wanted to confirm if this was Whigfield as I remembered the song but hadn't heard it for years.

The Stranglers - Skin Deep - because I wanted to find the lyrics.

Billy Idol - Mony Mony - wasn't sure who sang it.

I found that if you're listening to a radio station on an iPhone, you can run Shazam on the audio playing from the phone, it doesn't have to be from another device.

Does every phone not do that?

I haven’t used an Android since Galaxy S7 so can’t say, but I was mindblown when it worked.

Kiddo had this playing yesterday and I sneakily Shazam'd it (because, ya know - it's not cool if Mammy likes it).

Not something they'd usually listen to. Very proud of them branching out.

    (Kicks in from about 3.05)

This came from the radio and I loved the funky beat to it. Then I listened to the lyrics and thought it was both pathetic and hilarious :D

Didn't even realize it was Eddie Murphy either.

Another from the radio. Can't even remember this one, and it was mostly likely very recent as I use Shazam a lot.

Starts off as what I'd call a stoner song so I probably got a bit of a laugh out of it at the time :D

Again, after about the 3min mark it gets better so maybe I did end up liking it. It's another world for me when I'm in the car lol. I hate driving but I like being alone in my own lilttle bubble.

Sounded nice in the car. There's an original version but this is a slightly different country mix.

All thanks to Jesus FM. Really like this and have been hiring (oops, lol) highering the volume on this one.

I know this song but I Shamazed it to know the artist. Really like this too, but it's heartbreaking. I need to be careful with this one..

    Three fresh ones 😁

We Belong by Pat Benatar. Knew the song but not the artist. When I found out I thought THAT'S Pat Benatar? And Pat Benatar is a woman? Had heard the name before but never actually knew who it was, always presumed it was a man.

Give it up by Daisy Veacock. First time hearing it and a catchy tune.

My Head is not my Friend by the Wombats. Not a big fan of the song, but somebody in the group commented it was awful sweary and asked who it was.

    Spirit FM again.. All three.

    .....

    .....

    This is my favorite.

Starts off a bit slow & boring but it sounds lovely in the car & I love when it comes on. Not too keen on the guys verse, he's definitely slow & boring.

Never paid attention to the lyrics until now & there's actually a lovely message in the song.

In a world full of people, all it takes is that one (right) person to make you feel content in life. Aww, so sweet, so mushy ..

Heard a lovely piece on Marty's LyricFM show this morning.

    - Le Onde - Ludovico Einaudi

Just what I needed after getting a puncture in the rain!

    - The Geese in the Bog - Gráinne Hambly

Heard it on the radio, recognised it but didn't know the name

    - Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts

Watching 'Cars' and wanted to know who sang it

The Man - The Killers from TV show Frauds, didn't recognise the song

The Only One - Pigeon Millers from John Creedon wanted to know who the artist was

We Didn't Know We Were Ready - Olafur Arnalds And Talos (Ft. Niamh Regan, Ye Vagabonds And A Choir Of Friends) from John Creedon wanted to add it to Spotify

Poolside - Harvest Moon ( Neil Young cover )…was curious who was covering / butchering NY. Awful. 💩

Sharon Van Etten - No One's Easy to Love…fan of hers but wasn’t familiar with this song. Loved it.

Oasis - Don’t Look Back in Anger…was just showing my Dad how the app works, that was on the radio..

Heard this in office today. I don't really like the song but I do normally like Zayn's music so I'm happy that he's back making tunes (even if he's sleepy mumbling)

Rewatching some TV programmes again lately and this is from The Rain.

Got this from Netflix's Wayward TV show. A great series with some really great acting in it.

    Really like this one

Shazam's this so I'd remember to listen to it at home, or in the car with the volume turned up 😏

    ....

This sounded lovely in the background in work - but holy fcuk Lewis, the lyrics when I got home 💔😭😭

    ....

Shazam'd coz I didn't recognise Tones & I's voice on the radio (imagine, Dance Monkey was 6yrs ago!). I liked her few songs even with the kinda sqeeky voice, but she sounds great here. Love this collab

I don't use Shazam. I tried once because a song was stuck in my head but when I sang it into my phone nothing 🤣

    And I'm serious

I once badly sang a song to a cashier in HMV, and she managed to find the single, import it and sell it to me for a fiver 😃

It was Turn it Around by Alena. Those were the days. Still a great tune too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,436 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

If you really did try singing into the app, it probably won’t work - unless your voice is identical to the artist 😉

It’s designed to listen to a song playing in the background through the app’s microphone. It then searches for the track and brings it up for you.

It’s handy when a new song comes on the radio, when you can’t remember the name of a track that’s playing, or when a song comes on during a movie or TV show.

Previous searches get stored in the 'library' on the app so you can look back over songs you've Shazam'd before.

After listening to that song for many decades, that's the first time I've ever seen the video. Most enjoyable, thank you 😁
