Hi all

I have OFCH with wires thermostats and TRVs on each rad

If I set the wires thermostat to 20 for example and all the TRVs to 2 then some rads will come on and others won't , the rad that comes on with a 2 is roasting and the room is unbearable but the other room with a 2 is cold and it won't come on until it's set to a 3

Why isn't the roasting rad cooling down when it's at a 2 and why do some rads only come on at a 3?

The TRV’s and room stats don’t really work that well with each other. Indeed my own view is that TRV’s don’t bring a lot to the table at all.

The wired room stat is a good job. My suggestion would be to turn all TRV’s on full, use the room stat to control temperature, and balance the flow in the other radiators to provide the correct heat requirements to the other rooms.

But the wired start is only in the hallway and landing area

How can I balance the flow to the other rads to control the temp in those rooms ?

So the hallway becomes the reference, and you restrict or increase flow to the other rooms to provide the correct level of heat for that room. This is done using the balancing (lockshield) valve on the other side of the radiator. Start with any rooms that are getting much too hot, and slow down the flow to those by closing the valve until the radiator cools a little.

It’s not as good as having a wired stat in every room, but should yield good results all the same. It will take persistence to get it right.
