    About 30 fans and a good few stragglers from the Guinness Storehouse. First gig for the new guitarist Gary Regan(?)…..

    For me, there were a few off-the-beaten track:

    1. 8/10 Aurora in the National Stadium - great sound and atmosphere
    2. 8/10 St Vincent in the Olympia - Annie and the band were in great form
    3. 8/10 80s Orchestra in the 3Arena - I expected cheese, but got an omelette
    4. 7/10 Julian Lage at Whelan's - guitar virtuosity that left my jaw on the floor
    5. 7/10 Orbital at Vicar St - haven't grooved so much in years

    Honourable mention: 6/10 The Smile - great to see the musicianship, but I thought they started a bit flat

    Most disappointing: 3/10 Air @ Trinity for the reasons given above, and they didn't really warm up until the second half

    Havent been to all that are mentioned but been to aboout a dozen of those mentioned above - and by a long way the most enjoyable gig I was at all year was They Might be Giants in Vicar St. Not a superfan or anything like it but the vibe and the show was the best I've experienced for a good few years.

    I'm probably not as enamoured with Nick Cave as a lot on here. I thought the gig was good but not as good as he's done in the past.

    My favourite gigs this year were:

    1. Pixies - Olympia playing Bosanova and Tromp L'Monde
    2. Nick Cave - Point
    3. Suede/Manic Street Preachers in Trinity
    4. Orbital - Vicar Street
    5. DJ Shadow - Academy
    6. Smashing pumpkins/Weezer - Point
    7. Pearl Jam - Marlay
    8. Bruce Springsteen - Kilkenny/Dublin
    9. Lankum - RHK
    10. Peter Hook and the Light - Olympia

    A lot of legacy acts there, must try to hit up some more new music this year.

    A bit late to the party but here goes.

    1. Yard Act in Vicar Street. Excellent night and the place was on wheels!!

    2. Kasabian 3 Arena. Again the place was bouncing. Took my 17 year old daughter and they gained a new fan.

    3. Fontaines 3 Arena. Been discussed to death here. Simply brilliant.

    4. Stereo MC's Button Factory. Throwback to my youth and it was 2 hours of dancing.

    5. Nathan Johnston and the Angels of Libra Whelans. Came up on my Instagram reels and I liked the sound of them. Took herself and we were both very impressed.

    6. Gavin James Whelans. Friend bought me a ticket. Wouldn't be a huge fan (very low key atmosphere and no real buzz or jumping around) but there's no doubt he is a serious musician and a really likeable lad.

    Don't have anything lined up this year as yet. Hoping that Sleaford Mods go on the road again.

    Also late to the party I see its been mentioned once already which is nice to see, favourite for me was The Warning @ The Academy an absolute blast with one of the most respondent crowds of the year.

    Depeche Mode @3.O2 - Just so reliable, I'm committed to resign myself from attending >€100 gigs of acts I've seen but I do have them as the one exception.

    Brutus @Brutal Assault - For me possibly the best live experience right now from any band formed within the last decade.

    Beyond the Black @Schlachthof, Wiesbaden - Super show and performance hopefully they make it to these shores someday.

    Bring Me The Horizon @ 3.O2/Graspop - Hadn't witnessed these live prior to this year, absolutely whoppin. Both shows differed only ever so slightly but hard to separate.

    Judas Priest @3.O2 - A triumphant return for the mighty Priest with one of the best albums of the year under their {bullet} belt.

    Crosses @Graspop - As a fan of Deftones I overlooked these for so long, exceptional performance will for sure be eyeballing future dates.

    Epica w/orchestra @ AFAS, Amsterdam - They just know how to do these special shows more than any other, a setlist catering to every era over 2 hour show, special guests, kids choir and a truck load of bells and whistles to boot.

    Honourables; Pixies, Idles, Lindsey Stirling, Therapy?

    Close on his heels;

    Idles - Liverpool

    ACDC - Croker

    War on Drugs - Belfast - Telegraph Building, mad place for gigs & nabbed the set list

    Cmat - EP

    Overhead the Albatross - ATN

    John Francis Flynn - ATN - for curing my 3 day drinking hangover - late but memorable 1st pint on Sunday

    LCD, Lankum, The National & Future Islands all up there.

    I was a bit disappointed with Public Service at the Olympia even though I got the Set List, seen them many many times and this was not their best by a long way.

    Regrettable misses Bonnie Light Horseman, Phospherescent. Had tickets for Pixies, DIIV & Bombay Bicycle Club but missed them due to injury.

    For me it was the last night in vicar street for kneecap. What a gig, never crowd surfed so much in my life. Don't like the genre but was **** amazing.

    Was at the first night as well, the roof nearly came off.

    Id seen Chalk in Rotterdam the year before at a festival, smaller venue as well, they were unreal. They're becoming a must see band for me, next gig is in Whelans
