    Hi folks,

The previous thread on Ireland's Refugee Policy was being used as a dumping ground for anything to do with immigration. It has gone so far off topic that the mods feel collectively it is beyond saving and thus it will shortly be closed and not reopened.

Going forward this thread will be used to discuss Immigration in Ireland. It will not have the more narrow parameters of discussion of the refugee policy thread so a broader discussion can be facilitated.

However there are some parameters that need to be clarified before posting in this thread, so before you post please make sure you understand the rules laid out below:

No discussion of anything before the courts permitted.

There are threads dedicated to conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East. The situation in those countries is not for discussion here, although the impact on Ireland of people entering the country to escape such conflicts can be discussed.

A reminder to report posts you have an issue with and not derail the thread going on about them. Thanks. If posters are going to continue to treat the thread as a battleground and continue with the ridiculous petty mudslinging and attacking posters instead of their posts , we are going to have to go back to threadbans and nobody (including the mods) wants that so my advice is to stick to the topic and if you have nothing constructive to say, don't post it.

    Update 01/08/2025:

Mod : Thread re-opened. Going forward there will be zero tolerance with respect to posting matters before the courts in this thread, any instances will result in an immediate thread ban (and if flouted a forum ban in line with the charter)

Furthermore, threadbans will be issued to posters who continue to attack posters rather than the posts. Anyone breaking other site rules will be dealt with in the normal fashion.

We understand that this is a contentious issue, with there being a need for open and continued discussion around this. So have a discussion rather than bickering nonsense because the Mod team, do not wish to see this thread closed again. This mod note will be added to the OP.

    Update 14/08/25:

Refute a post directly, report it or simply ignore it. There's too many petty squabbles going on in this thread and very little discussion of the actual topic. If you can't respond to a post without throwing in personalized commentary on another poster, then just don't bother posting. Half the problem with the discussion on this matter is that posters won't even consider a middle ground. Maybe try to dial the aggression back on both sides of the debate and actually discuss the topic instead of getting involved in petty childish squabbling. I presume it is all adults posting on this forum after all, maybe everyone should try to act like one.

    Threadban List:

    RobbietheRobber

    NattyO

    mullinr2

    Realdanbreen

    conorhal
