The Clare alps - just needs a chair lift.

    Wind cloud snow hill.jpg

The sun popped out very briefly so I went for a walk.

    Snow cloud keeper hill.jpg

There would be some snow up top of Keeper hill there, I'd imagine.

    Wall cloud snow.jpg

Clouds/fog giving an impression of a wall of doom approaching.

Clear slot over the midlands and east and you can see how far the snow got in Leinster, cloud obscures elsewhere.

Absolutely understand that. Not all areas are the same. It seems anything west or south west of maynooth got it a lot harder. Fully agree with school closures for those areas where needed. I'm looking out my window at a beautiful sunny day here with little to no ice left.

Last time Alexandra froze after my one of the girls I work with crashed into a lamppost! I'm in the N7 an the minute and it's grand. Estates around big Tesco are still quite slippy.

Hmm I am in East Sligo and it's just been raining all morning, no sign of any snowfall here…yet

Yellow - Snow and Ice Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry

Rain, sleet and snow showers will continue during Monday evening and night leading to a risk of icy stretches. A slight covering of snow is possible in places, and perhaps up to 5 cm on hills in the north and west, especially the Sperrins. Snow showers are expected to become more frequent across the north and west for a time this afternoon and evening.

Sounds a bit shite for low lying areas. Definitely a downgrade from a few days ago.

Looking at the radar and it wouldn't be a surprise if the midlands even get in on the action in the next while.

Airmass to get a little colder during the day but not a whole lot. So a sleet/wet snow mess but as some reports above coming in, it is sticking in spots.

You'd wonder if the airmass in general was a bit more potent on this northerly if that trough up by Scotland could have become a full blown polar low. Some chatter on Netweather this morning about the odd trough shape on the fax charts, and how it could develop its own mini circulation.

I'm not well versed at these type of things - looking at the Euro satellite animation, is starting to form a hook off the west coast of Scotland in recent frames? EDIT: I think I'm talking nonsense, looks like the lower limits of cloud and precip are just catching on to the more WNW winds currently further south closer to the north of Ireland.

A band of rain, sleet and snow showers is moving through western coastal counties and will be followed this evening and tonight by a slighty more organised front producing scattered outbreaks sleet and snow in places and potentially moving a good distance inland. Another trough showing up off the north coast tomorrow morning. By then, conditions will be a lot more conducive for snowfall.

Rain has turned to a very wet snow in Galway city, big flakes in the air. Very marginal, only happens during beefy showers.

We transitioned to heavy wet snow and some hail for a short time but nothing really stuck (South Donegal). Seems to be too mild here at the minute.

Huge chucks of ice/snow sliding off the house roof here in Wicklow. Some noise!

I'm standing in the middle of the road looking up it - the solid drift in front of me is at least 1.5m deep.

Snow has returned to Athenry, radar returns look good for a decent fall too. These are the days I used to especially hate in school, looking out the window and getting roared at by the teacher.

Coming down alot stronger now, love when you look into the air and you can see the snow high up falling down.

You digitised some of the footage from the Big Snow of January 1982? Well done! Just needs a stuck Fiat Ritmo thrown in for authenticity. 😂

Upper air temperature fluctuates a lot over today

    image.gif image.gif image.gif image.gif image.gif image.gif image.gif image.gif

From this point on the colder stays over the N half of the country and changes back and forth further south. Throughout today it could change back and forth between snow and rain a lot but its encouraging it has snowed today from showers without the upper air temperatures being that cold when it did.

Hopefully its not an issue for all the school kids who hopped on buses from Tuam to Athenry this morning for secondary school, good chance those buses won't run tomorrow if conditions are poor.

Snow giving a nice covering to cars, roofs, and grass but the intensity is gone out of it now just as the paths and roads were starting to turn white.

If I had to nitpick this will mean less accumulations even when the snow is heavy. Indeed I can see now where I was walking has not filled in the last half hour. I remember back in 2010 every bit of snow stuck because that was an exceptionally cold airmass. Also while I love seeing the dinner plate snowflakes they are a sign the atmosphere isn't as cold as it could be

Gas isn't it , exactly as predicted here and on ME .

We dried off last night after heavy sleety rain for 36 hours and now our roads and paths are clear although its quite cold . Lovely sunny morning in Dublin North City .

Hope all those who got stranded are ok now . Good that the farmers are helping pull cars out and maybe they will get some help back from their neighbours in other ways .

I understand the negativity that some feel about snow. But it's a novelty in Ireland and it's hard to be totally prepared for novel weather that may or may not happen .

I don't mind a day or two but after that just want back to normal and be able to walk or get public transport to get from a to b.

So many people around the country do not have that luxury and until those link roads are freed up are stranded .

I know people cut off with no water.Doesn't mean that they are all not enjoying the snow as well .But it's not as much fun especially for elderly or less able bodied

People making the best of it I suppose and see the beauty and fun while it lasts . And hoping that essential services are restored quickly or provisions made .
