    I do love a good French film. I went to the Chateau d'If this year as well so it's nice to see it on film. Should probably read the book.

    The 2002 version with Jim Caviezel and a very young Henry Cavill is well worth a watch.

    Also in the cast are Guy Pearce, Luis Guzman and Richard Harris, and a lot of it was filmed in Ireland.

    My favourite book by a healthy distance. Definitely worth reading, Dantes must be my favourite fictional character of all time.

    The 2002 flick adaptation is very good, Caviezel actually brings a little more humanity to the character, but there's a few changes from the narrative to keep it more "conventional".

    Must give this and the other recent Dumas adaptations a watch

    It's the one great book I want to actually read before I die! Not Ulysses!

    The 1960s TV adaption with Alan Badel is a very good watch too.

    Anyone read the book? Presumably, it's worth it. Any recommendations on translation? I think I have the Robin Buss version.

    Somewhere between the page and screen, there's also a BBC radio adaptation from 2012 with Iain Glen in the title role, that's knocking around.

    That's what I read. It's absolutely worth reading. It's a long book, but it surprisingly easy to go through

    Read it a few years back, the Buss translation is viewed to be the best. The thing they emphasize about the French language is it's been largely consistent stylistically for a few centuries so it's by default modern.

    I can honestly say it's one of the best books I've ever read. Basically you've got a protagonist who has been robbed of his humanity and motivated solely by revenge so he's happy to manipulate and destroy his enemy's lives. Think it's a thousand pages long but it flies.

    It's a tome, alright. There's a nice wee exhibition on it at the Château d'If which I really enjoyed. My favourite was a Dumas quote in relation to someone attacking his mixed race heritage.

    Guess this slipped under the radar. The IFCO have it listed twice, once for last August and then October. Maybe theatrical and physical media (?). I don't recall seeing it around. Anyway, it's available to rent and buy from Apple (only platform I have).

    Vulture's critic gave it a positive review.

    Late reply to this, but IMO, it's the greatest book I ever read. Which says a lot as I have been reading books for the last 40 years. The only book I have read twice, plus listened to it being narrated on Youtube.

    It was shown last night in our local arts centre, €7 admission. I had never seen any of the previous versions or read the book so it was nice to not know the storyline.

    It was a very enoyable movie albiet a long one at nearly 3 hours.

    Now I don't know whether to watch the show… or the French version I didn't know existed!

    Coincidentally, I'm about 10% through the book, which like many here, is one I've always wanted to read.

    The 2002 movie was excellent.
