Questions about accompaniment for music practical

Hi, hoping this is the right place to ask this. So, in short: I'm taking the higher performance elective for the practical exam (8 pieces across flute and guitar) and I have a few questions.

    1. How do you bring in your accompaniment? For flute, I have some pieces that would very much benefit from piano accompaniment, and I know it's possible to bring in accompaniment but I've no idea how that would work and what I should use to bring it in.
    2. Can you accompany yourself live for one of the pieces on guitar, e.g. would I be allowed to sing the lyrics as I'm playing a piece?
    3. A little bit unrelated and less important, but I might as well ask while I'm here; what are some good tips for picking your pieces? I have some more classical-leaning like Tambourin and Cafe 1930, and then going into others like River Flows In You and A Journey/Dream of Flight from the Wind Rises, for example. Would more variation be a good plan, and any ideas for what to look at in that case?

I don't really have anyone to ask these things as I'm an external candidate, so would be very grateful for any advice. Merry Christmas!

    Hi there,

    1. You should def source an accompanist for your flute repertoire, this would indeed be expected, as accompaniment would be extremely important. You need to source this yourself, and as you are an external candidate, you will have to finance this yourself. Your Flute teacher will guide you here. There are lots of excellent pianists, and there is a database of accompanists online. If you have trouble, send me a pm.
    2. No. Either you go all guitar with no singing, or all SSOA Solo Singing to Own Accompaniment. You cannot mix and match here. This would be four pieces songs as you are doing HE2
    3. Choose pieces that you enjoy, as this will come across in your performance. Better to play simple music well, than complex music poorly. This is the most important advice you can receive. Your pieces sound like a great mix, so there will be lots of variety in there already. I wouldn't worry about that.

    Best of luck! PH
