First game I didn't tell the kids about and watched Netflix instead. I feel terrible but it was obviously gonna happen

Wow stop the presses did I just see Antony go down the outside of a defender? Granted he fell on his ass but actually went down the outside

Anthony had them left for dead and he just throws himself to the ground. I really dislike the mentality of most modern footballers. Amad diving tonight too

Also that you need to wait that extra season or two, trying to buy a striker before they're ready is not a good strategy. You don't save that much money either.

Isak was what 22 and scoring regularly in a top league. Rasmus was 20 and barely a regular never mind regular scorer.

Edit: There were people in here advocating to spunk nearly 100m on Evan Ferguson and now he's looking for a loan. And maybe we will buy him in a few years for a 100m when he's ready!

Sticking with him is fine. And most fans want to. But….whats worrying is RA gets a lot of clearly obvious calls Wrong.

Starting Cas & Eriksen as the two CMs tonight was suicidal to begin with.

Having remedied it (30 minutes too late) by bringing Mainoo on, he then reverses it - and puts Eriksen back in the one place we know he's a liability. And Garnacho contributes nothing anyway.

Martinez's form is utter sh1t and he should have been dropped ages ago. Under no circumstances should he start at Anfield by the way.

We have other options in defence but his terrible form is rewarded with a starting position every game. Something needs to change there…..

One he certainly hasn't made that many this season you are certainly exaggerating, two you thinking your limiting viewing of him translates to all his performances is of course nonsense,.and three there is nothing he does bad you don't see every week from some keeper or just doesn't get highlighted much outside united.

Onana another lad who suffers from a few high profile errors getting amplified on social media and people thinking no other goalkeepers similar because they don't watch other games or see it on social media because it doesn't get the same traction.

And thinking he is the worst of the worst.

The lad was the best goalkeeper in the champions league before he joined us, had an awful start for us and was super solid for over a year then.and now another few errors in a few games

another take is that this will be his last game, and giving him a chance to say goodbye. time will tell.

This is why I'm surprised a highly successful and sought after manager like Amorim accepted the job at this time. Surely anyone looking at the salaries and contract lengths would realise the club is hamstrung from making major moves for several years since no club in their right mind would offer comparable wages to sign those players so any potential transfer would collapse?

What United need for the next few seasons is a transitional manager who can make the most with what they have to keep heads above water until those contract expires and they can make major transfers again.

I get the impression a lot of fans don't understand this and will call for Amorim's head when their desired "clear out" doesn't materialise in the summer.

    All on Amorim tonight unfortunately.

A LCB, LWB and a Striker badly needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

I think Amorim needs to settle on a preferred starting team now and play them together as much as possible. The chopping and changing was understandable but he's had enough time to assess what he has to work with now and some results are badly badly needed.

Yoro should start playing instead of Martinez who is now a problem.

Ugarte needs to start as much as possible too and Eriksen and Casemiro can never start together again. Black mark against Amorim that he thought that could possibly ever work.

Mount is a big loss from an energy and pressing point of view but can't be overly surprised by his loss either.

Badly need a couple of players in January but hard to know what will happen there.

Not a lot to be optimistic about at the moment unfortunately as you wouldn't fancy us against literally anyone right now.

I'd have to doubt that Amorim, or anybody else for that matter, gives a single shite about Rashford getting a send off.

I suppose a small mercy that it only ended 0-2 after that first 20 minutes, I was dreading what the score could of been

god the table is depressing looking.

    Ipswich gained points tonight.

Carra is on RA's back now as well. Think BB could be on the Sky Sports editorial team. That nonsense graphic before the game too, comparing the underlying stats.

It's a tough task, but nearly impossible when everyone is frothing over the possibility that it'll all go wrong, even your own supporters.

If we don't end up in the drop zone it won't be down to what we're doing ourselves.

I can't see us winning any of our next ten games from here.

Buck always stops with the manager. Amorim shouldn't have set foot in the club before June, a caretaker should have been the punching bag in the interim.

From here we're setting ourselves up for another managerial sacking.

    Jesus this is depressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,214 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Would you now perhaps acknowledge that Amorims performances actually matter?

That what he does on and off the field does actually affect things, even if the club has been a mess previously?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,961 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Against an out of sorts Chelsea side. I'd fancy Palace to also beat them at the weekend. Which will mean Utd dropping even further down the table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭fergiesfolly

Most those players didn't look that bothered at full time. Collect a big paycheck, do the bare minimum, deny all personal responsibility, rinse, repeat.

If I were Amorim, I'd make them stand on the pitch in front of the Newcastle fans and take the mocking and abuse

6 defeats in December is some kind of record

    Yes, yes, yes.

Sky should use one of their in depth tactical sessions to instead explain the financial rules. Use United as a case study. Perhaps it’s too nitty gritty/mathsy for most, but it’s become so important that if you don’t truly get it, it’s hard to understand the sport at a strategic level.

Look at Liverpool’s discipline with the Salah contract. He’s arguably the best player in the world but they understand a long term deal on £400k a week could destroy them so are ok letting him walk. United gave similar money to Casemiro and Rashford without any fuss.

Also - and not winding people up - Everton and Leicester are better than united (IMO)

It's taken Howe 3 seasons to get Newcastle playing like this and too be honest we were the better team for the majority of that game but the first 32 minutes was as bad as anything you'll see.

Suspensions and injuries are killing Amron here but he has to do better than starting Case and Eriksen in a 2 against anyone in the PL.

I can understand why he took Casemiro off. He was clearly not doing what the manager wanted and kept giving away possession when his role is to just keep it simple. Garnacho was pants when he came on but so is everyone else that plays on that side of the pitch.

Amad gets double teamed, Hojlund gets bear hugged every game, and nothing happens on the left.

I think Utd have to gamble this January and spend or we'll struggle to make Europe at all. Top 5 is still doable but we need 3 starters this window and they have to hit the ground running. From a PSR perspective it's a dangerous game to play because if we don't get Europe after spending we are in serious PSR trouble.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

and bruno, during the summer for whatever reason when he had like 3 years to run on his existing contract.

some of the decisions in recent years are so bad, sabotage is becoming a legit theory.

Thats the first time to my knowledge that his selection was poor, when Mainoo came on it helped, so he did fix his mistake.

I mean that’s just not true. Evident to the fact we beat Leicester comfortably 5-2 and 3-0 and Everton 4-0 already in the last 2-3 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭piplip87

The poor recruitment of the last few years is really starting to show now. Casemiro for example world class in a 3, got away with it in the double pivot but exposed now in a two. Why was he signed when a 3 was impossible with Bruno ?

Anyways I'm not having this "transition" shite we are been fed since the new manager came in. We do not have the players needed to play this shape. A manager should come in and adapt to what he has.

It's not acceptable the system does not work with this group and FFP means we need to raise serious funds to get the players needed.

I fear for the Liverpool game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,214 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I don't think they need to spend big money.

Somebody for the left and another midfielder, surely there are solid professional options that can bolster the team there, they don't need to be world class, not at this point of the life cycle.

And then the coach needs to show that he can get the squad functioning to at least the level that Ten Hag and Van Nistleroy could. Thats not a high bar, it isn't much to ask.

He isn't going to get a whole new team, he simply isn't, so if he needs a whole new team then there is no point in him being there. That doesn't mean sacking him now, it means he needs to show that he can improve the current players.

Even though he didn't play tonight, I actually found myself disliking Bruno even more given how well his namesake played for Newcastle. What I would give to swap our Bruno for their Bruno…
