Sonoff relay to replace APT/immerstat timer on oil boiler

    Hi

Like many of us I've got an old Firebird oil boiler that's controlled using on/off/timer on an apt 24hour timer unit. I've not heating zones but I do have TRVs on all my rads (some dumb and some smart zigbee based ones).

I'm looking to upgrade the boiler control and thought I might use a sonoff relay on/off switch. I can integrate this with my TRVs through my home assistant set up.

My questions are if anyone has done this and has some top tips and/or is it worthwhile getting some sort of ZigBee based thermostat so that we can also control the heating locally (for when we have visitors or my for my husband to use when I'm not around).

I've read through the various heating automation threads but want to avoid a tado/wise/etc system as I already run home assistant in the house so think I can set it up through that.

Of course, maybe tado is the right answer here as it does integrate with home assistant so hopefully I wouldn't have to pay any subscription fees and would be able to have some sort of local control

    Would appreciate any insight

    Thank you

I did exactly that for a few years and used the scheduler add-on for home-assistant.

I have a bunch of zigbee temp/humidity sensors too from Sonoff and Xiaomi, so set up simple thermostats using those for readings and the Sonoff switch as the heater.

I did flash the Sonoff with tasmota first, so it was local control.

Do you just have one heating zone, or do you need to control valves as well?
