Realistic transfer targets, anyone think we'll sign someone?

Must be money available, but my worry is we'll have to move on a LB and No.9 before we can add to those positions.

foggy view from top of Main Stand.

Highlight for me was after equaliser, Alisson ran over to the ball boy in front of us to high 5 him for the quick return of the ball leading to the goal.

Disappointing to see so much diving & feigning injury by a Van Nistelroy coached team.

Klopp on side lines cheering them on is a perfect situation. It must inspire the players, to still feel like you're out there not wanting to let him down.

Any word on when Konate is back? I’m a big Gomez fan but we are more solid defensively with Ibra in the team

Gomez has been comfortably your best defender since the Konate injury. He was MOTM against Spurs and should have won it again today...Van Dijk is not fully himself however.

Bizarre that some see fit to lambast Nunez, even when he has a decent game. I think 9 is the hardest position on our team. Jota hardly got a kick when he came on, and in one instance was wide open for a goalscoring chance but Mo didn’t pass and hit a poor shot instead. But the way we play, our wide men’s priority is to score goals themselves, so they have licence to shoot first, and pass if the shot is not on. Most of the time Nunez got the ball was with back to goal, and he controlled it well and played it to a teammate, ie exactly the job Slot wanted him to do.

He was very unfortunate with the offside , he definitely would have felt on, being behind Mo and level with the ball and the last defender. The fact the VAR lines had him a mm offside was unfortunate. And he played a big part in the key goal to put us 2-1 up. The one good chance Nunez did get, he hit it very well from the angle he had and forced the keeper into a good save. A solid performance. Curtis and the two full backs had poorish first halfs, but they all upped it in the second. In fact, I thought everyone played well in the second half.

On the VAR decisions last night, I thought this was excellent........

I thought was very comfortable evening again even at 1 down once we got level only going to be 1 winner,so on to the next one all that can be done is control our games and try keep picking up the 3 points let the others do what they like,I said last night too a few lads in the pub there isn't too many that would of saw us in this position so enjoy it while it lasts

He just does'nt pass the eye test, he looks clumsy in posession and is not clinical enough.

Look, i like his workrate, he always tries and he's passionate, but he is'nt good enough for a team hoping to win leagues and european cups.

Good close ball control, vision, dribbling, if you have'nt got those at 25 you're never going to develop them.

Once we got the equaliser before halftime, in my mind, it was inevitable we’d win.  Leicester simply aren’t good enough, and they got away with it in the first half because our crossing was abysmal, and their energy was incredible.  Despite not being great in terms of quality, their pressing of the man on the ball was good enough to make us think.  That was never going to be able to continue.

A routine win, as it should be.

Mo looks like he’s loving life.  Either he truly is relaxed and is fine leaving at the end of his contract, or it’s done and we’re just waiting.  Same with Van Dijk to be honest.

Kerkez LB from Bournemouth is looking likely as he was signed by Richard Hughes when he was there - probably happen in the Summer unless we did a player cash deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,033 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I don't think we'll do any business in January personally unless we go back in for Zubimendi to stop City getting him

LB is needed but Slot trusts Tsimikas more than Klopp did so as long as there's no big injuries to him or Robertson then we'll stick with what we have I reckon. Even if that did happen we'd go with a short term option.

Even though our final ball was poor, we also hit the woodwork 3 times in the first half. We could have easily been up at half time all things considered.

I just don't know where you are coming from with 'decent game'. He did nothing to make an impact nor give the manager food for thought.

More interesting is the recent Trend by one or two to try to cast shade on Jota to make Nunez seem not so bad.

Anyone surprised at the VAR last night should look at who was the VAR referee

I think the 2 reasons Darwin isn't a complete liability is:

    1. He works hard off the ball

    2. There's plenty of goals from players around him

When you compare to other 9's we've seen in the league: Haaland, Lukaku, Rashford, Aubameyang etc, these players would have the occasional games with single-digit touches throughout. Basically they either scored or did nothing. Darwin does a lot more than them but scores way less.

If Salah is out for example and he's still not scoring then it starts to become a big issue, or if he stops tracking back and plays like a Rashford or Aubameyang and saunters around waiting for the ball.

Those players all got away with it because they've all had hugely prolific seasons.

I would still get rid of him this summer, but as long as he's contributing workload and as long as we don't have to rely on him scoring like those teams did for the other players I mentioned then it's mostly a harmless situation and no issues with him being 5th choice (which he is once Jota is fully fit for 90mins)

A Nunez for Duran from Villa would be an interesting consideration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,025 ✭✭✭kingshankly

”Darwin works hard “ is a complete nonsense argument that’s a given from every player I could work hard for 90 it’s the minimum requirement

At times his link up play is decent but it’s his shooting at him constantly being offside absolutely irritates me

The 4 players I mentioned are not "works hard at a minimum" players, as a given.

And they have been hugely successful in the league

Gakpo's 10th goal of the season last night.

Alot of very important goals as well to be fair, the clincher against Madrid. opener against City, equaliser against Brighton, equaliser against Fulham, equaliser last night etc

That cut inside and R2 finesse shot trick is working wonders!

Pity about the Szobo suspension. He looked nailed on to start at West Ham. Probably wanted his running power for that away game. Same midfield will likely have to start again. Diaz will likely be back in place of Darwin. Could see Robbo rested for Tsimikas.

Reports that Konate and Bradley could be back for Utd Game on 5 Jan. Would be an incredible boost to the team if we could have a full squad available for January.

So your eyes were closed in the build up to the Jones goal? Doesn’t surprise me.

I haven’t seen a single poster ‘throwing shade’ at Jota! One-on-one the best finisher at the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,123 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Slot confirmed this morning that Szobo was going to start v West Ham. I’d love to see him throw Harvey in, but will surely be the same 3 as you say. Diaz will definitely start (assuming he’s not injured). I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave Jota a start too.

It’s just the exaggeration that gets me (and not singling you out by any means).

With 2 league goals, Darwin does have less than the other 4 (Mo 16, Luis 7, Cody 4, Jota 3), but to say he doesn’t contribute is just wrong Mo has 11 assists in the league, Darwin and the others all have 2 assists each

Darwin was caught offside way too many times last season. IMO it was clearly his biggest weakeness. But he has definitely worked on it. 8 offsides in 14 league appearances this season is a little bit more than you’d like but not a big issue (for comparison Mo 6, Luis 6, Cody 4, Jota 0)

Shots missed in the league: Darwin 19, Mo 47, Luis 24, Cody 24, Jota 14.
‘Big chances’ missed: Darwin 3, Mo 11, Luis 5, Cody 2, Jota 6.

All strikers miss chances, Darwin is not out of kilter but gets jumped on unfairly more than anyone else.

And workrate is important. The stats for combined tackles/clearances in the league:

    Darwin 24, Mo 13, Luis 17, Cody 23, Jota 8.

Arne values him, which is the main thing. We have 5 super forwards, a big reason we are top of the league. Every one of them is contributing.

I'd like to see us work space for Gakpo to get more of those shots off cutting in from the left, we really haven't had a player who can score from distance in that fashion since Coutinho.

With Salah commanding so much attention on the opposite wing and Trent's diagonals out to the left wing there's plenty of opportunities for Gakpo to take more of those shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,486 ✭✭✭✭noodler

His heavy outside of the foot touch about 3 passes before the goal?

    Jesus, clutching.

Look, don't start. I only brought him up when you said tried to say he played well.

Gakpo cutting in from the left is shades of Salah cutting in from the right over the years, lovely little balance there. Keep Jota fit (big if) Diaz to rotate with Jota and Gakpo and use Nunez when needed and we are in good nick up front. The non negotiables injury wise are obviously Salah/VVD & Grav, let’s hope they can see out the season.
