Yes it is a thread about things gone wrong if you think about it :)

I'd have thought he could afford a better seat for his hero.

    Reminds me of a song...

You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
And in the middle of negotiations
    You break down....

I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
And in the middle of investigation
    I break down...

Quite reminiscent of "I'm Alan Partridge'" Series 2, Episode 3 "Bravealan", except in this case it's Tubridy: There's Ringo! [shouts across seating area from his Q102 chair] : Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! (slight pause) Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo! Ringo!

Ringo appears to look at the camera wondering does that person need medical attention?

Does the book cover seem to be more of a likeness of Elon Musk than Ryan?

I wonder how much Shane will be allowed to include in the book. He would have heard a lot of previously untold stories over the years, from his wife.

The irony of one of our greatest freeloaders (Shane Ross) writing a book about another freeloader (Tubridy), in an organisation that Ross was very close to. Somehow he never spotted that it was a money burning cesspit when his wife worked there and when he went in to have his rants about life in general on Marian Finucane on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

    Tubridy and McCartney, eh?

    https://www.irishmirror.ie/showbiz/irish-showbiz/ryan-tubridy-admits-meeting-idol-22220315?

“Got a picture with him thanks to John Clarke former head of 2fm who had the camera and McCartney did not want the picture taken but I insisted.”

He then regurgitated the story a few days into his Virgin gig:

Not sure what’s hilarious about it…..

“As soon as he said ‘Hello’ I shook his hand and then I started patting his shoulder on repeat, and he was looking sideways [at that] going ‘What are you doing?’

“I said ‘Nothing! Just touching your shoulder,'” he continued. Second-hand embarrassment creeping in as he told more of the story, Ryan added: “I then said ‘Can we have a photo?’ and he said ‘Not really, I don’t really do photographs.'”

But Ryan still got someone to take a photo of the two during the awkward moment. “Someone took the photo, and it’s of me with chicken in my teeth, stupid haircut, horrible shirt, patting him on the shoulder, and him looking at the camera going: ‘No!’”

“It looks like he’s doing that Paul McCartney thing with the finger, but actually he’s saying no, and I’m standing there looking maniacal,” he finished,

Wonderful trademark Tubridy kindness and self-awareness shown there to his idol. He did the same thing to Tony Bennett.

Why would he even tell a story that makes him out to be an absolute dope.

As I’ve said before, he has zero self-awareness.

One is a wealthy socially awkward attention-seeking on the spectrum weirdo with an epic sense of self who likes to insert himself into things he really shouldn’t, the other is…..

    Too easy.

He’s sunk a long way from the invite-only intimate gig in The Cavern in 2003 - imagine having to pay for something as common as a ticket??!!

Organised by Sony Music UK there were only a handful of Irish “meeja” heads invited via the Irish operation, including Mr. Tubridy. I personally know the lady who organised the Irish leg of this junket. I could tell you stories…….but luckily for some I’m not the type to gossip.

For some reason, an RTE article from a year ago appeared on my feed about Tub's new show (when it was new), and I hate read it, seeing that Tubs, a year ago, said the show was "a work in progress and that the next few months would see him "testing the waters" in terms of format".

I presume he's tested the waters now and the format is fantastic? Not having ever listened!

I can't help but wonder if they will shelve Tubridy's Virgin Media show in the coming months now that Q102's new schedule has been announced. Kathryn Thomas will be starting in February and perhaps that is a marker for when they'll bring Tubs home for good. It also means that he has passed the 1-year milestone and that his time on UK radio can be measured in years, not months.

Yes, I do believe there is a plan to return Tubridy back onto Irish radio even if it is not on a fully nationwide coverage level. He is not going to stay in London for the rest of his days on a radio station which has limited reach and relevance for him. I believe firstly they will attempt to increase the popularity of Q102 or whatever identity/brand the radio station eventually becomes, leaving it open for Tubridy to commence broadcasting his slot from Dublin permanently and then depending on it's  performance in future JNLR's, the folks at NewsUK will again tweak the radio station's lineup. Networking is definitely the way they want to go but due to the popularity of local presenters on midmorning slots across their Irish operations, it currently leaves them with limited options: Morning and afternoon drive/evenings. That is where I believe Thomas and Tubridy will be placed eventually using the Dublin market as a testing ground. Again, a lot of it is riding on the success of Q102's relaunch and how both presenters and the radio station including VRUK performs going forward. I would say Tubridy and those NewsUK executives will be watching (or listening) with great interest as to how things work out at Q102 over the coming year.

Isnt there focus groups or random polls or something going on? Who thinks the public woukd rather liste. To Kathryn Thomas or tubridy over whatever no-name local presenter is doing a perfectly acceptable job?

He’s now regurgitated it again in today’s London Diary. Read it at your peril.

Sorry, I can’t. To do so would betray a confidence and I’d rather stick to the facts with Mr. Tubridy. Heaven knows there’s enough gossip about the chap already.

That he was once of such a high profile to be invited to a junket like that compared to his current standing must be quite the shock to the system. This is not “Bouncing Back”, it’s just “Falling Down”.

My only sympathy for him is as a creation of an institution that promotes way beyond talent or merit. However that sympathy is wasted by his personal arrogance.

Edit to add, in order to overcome setbacks we must learn from them. Tubby carries on as if he had no part in his own downfall.

Tubby carries on as if he had no part in his own downfall.

That's so true, and tbh, I'd say he has so little self awareness that he actually believes he had no part to play in the move to senior hurling (lol) from being a vastly overpaid presenter in Ireland, with a soft job for life.

That’s really harsh and unfair….on those going the Junior Cert.

It’s primary school level, and not even 6th class.

Was in Easons yesterday and made my way up to the counter with an armful of books, chocs and some stationery. As I was waiting my turn in the queue I was staring at the glossy magazine shelves when what did I spot but a magazine entitled TUBRIDY across the top, in the style of TIME…. with our hero's smug visage grinning back at me.

I did a couple of Victor Meldrewesque double takes, before dropping the lot on the floor and storming out!
