Oh it's nothing about hatred. But it is you that seems to be taking criticism of Bauer/98FM very personally and surely you must realize that you are really showing yourself up now. Why don't you just be honest and at least post under your regular username.

I’m going to make a bold prediction here. Q102 may change schedule but neither live 95 and definitely not 96fm will have any schedule changes. At all. Lorraine and ross and pj Coogan will stay with 100k odd listeners they have between them. There’s simply no way that will change in the short term.

I will also make a bold prediction here. 98FM will eventually go into reverse again and what maybe happening at Q102 may also happen there. Thing is I genuinely feel for folks who work at Q102 as they do have some genuine radio people there, I can't say the same for 98FM.

Let's just get this straight, you are not Enda Caldwell as much as I am not OK?

Anything I post on Boards.ie in relation to the state of Ireland's music radio industry are my views and my views alone and you may think so but you have absolutely no idea as to who I am and I have no problem proving that to the folks who run this site if they so wish.

If you have a problem with my criticism, get over it but don't use someone else's name against them.

I think what you say is true about the other stations. I think the focus here seems to be Q102 and C103.

There is currently no fixed presenter on the C103 evening Anthems and Country and Irish show from 7 to 11 and I am wondering, (if the networking rumour is true) will Ken Tobin who is currently on breakfast, get this gig? Maybe Ken Tobin goes to Drivetime and Martina on Drivetime goes to the later show.

Two top notch presenters that would be a huge loss to C103 if they went anywhere else.

    Presenter/ Producer – C103

Location – Broadcasting House, Cork City T23 E183

The Team: Cork’s 96FM & C103 is one of Ireland’s biggest and most successful local radio businesses. Operating from Broadcasting House in the city, Cork’s 96FM recently won Silver for music station of the year at the IMRO Radio Awards 2024.   C103 is a broad-based local radio service and is home to Cork’s Greatest Hits. Both brands attract almost a quarter of a million adult listeners across Cork City and County each week.

Your Role: This is a dual role. You will produce and present a daily show on the C103 schedule.   Initially, this will be our evening Country & Irish music programme which is the most listened to programme in its timeslot in Cork.

Eric G left his C103 evening show as he was unhappy about the closure of the Mallow studios and transfer of all C103 output to Cork city (96fm premises). Someone said he proposed to have a home studio for his show but that proposal was rejected . Rory Burke continues as interm presenter.

The Mallow closure also would not have suited Patrica M who now has a much longer travelling time to do her show from the city (through heavy traffic on weekday mornings)

Veteran broadcaster John O'Connor is no longer presenting the weekly farming programme either since the shuttering of Mallow some months ago.

It all happened very quietly, the ending of over 40 years of broadcasting from the Mallow location

If Mallow is now shut, is the Bandon studio also shut? Where does the Sunday morning show exclusively for West Cork come from now?

The Mallow studios have been listed for rent for years. Must have had a bite on getting a tenant

John Greene left C103 also. He goes way back to when it opened back in 1990 in the Bandon Studios. Almost continuous presentation on the station, apart from a few years at Radio Kerry in between.

has Eric left altogether? That’s some amount of time he spent between the stations over the years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,466 ✭✭✭Antenna

Yes Eric has left c103 altogether.

I understand John Greene appeared on Radio Kerry a few weeks ago deputising for the usual presenter of the Sunday 11am-2PM show..., good to see he isn't completely gone from radio

Good to see John Greene still in radio. Very good presenter. Cut his teeth on local pirate radio, in the mould of John Creedon and Neil Prendeville who were doing the very same at the time in Cork.

Breakfast could be changed and pj left as he is,as its local content? I was replying to @john457 , I thought I had clicked Quote....🤣

I wouldn’t be disappointed if they did networking with Live 95 in limerick and replaced some of the terrible shows. Live 95 is a very poor station compared to C103/96FM/Q102 etc

Q102 are looking for an executive producer for their breakfast show (and some other duties)

Looks like this lines up with having a new more high profile breakfast show.

They are only short of leaving them off the office cleaning rota.

So where does this leave the rumours of a networked Breakfast show with C103?

Kind of a strong line up. With Kathryn at Breakfast, Ryan at mid mornings and a Dublin local news show they are going for Radio 1 listeners. I think it could work.

If you look at Q's social media, You'll see that there is absolutely nobody interacting with them, wireless has neglected the station so badly over the past 15 yrs. The announcement today of KT on breakfast as well as an new daily evening news program is extremely positive, You need personality driven radio with quality speech content in 2025 because hours and hours of music marathons with robojock ain't gonna cut it in the Spotify age.

I wonder where Andy Preston will pop up next, He's been part of that group for around 29 years give or take.

I hope he gets a show somewhere else, He will be missed from the airwaves.

He'll probably be swing jocking on Classic Hits and or Nova by January.

That is correct - give or take. Andy Preston came to FM104 in 1996 from the *pirates (mainly dance). I think it was around the summer, so about 28 and a half years. He was with FM104 for a number of years before moving to, what was by then, its sister station Q102.

*I think he started with Radio Dublin in the late 1980s, but he is more associated with pirates, particularly dance, in the first half of the '90s. They included Sunset, when it had gone all dance, and Sunset's successors Rhythm FM and Hot107. Along the way, he had at least one guest appearance as a presenter on non-dance Coast FM.

Not too sure about the second part of that post tbh. Sunshine, Nova and Spin would beg to differ. All have top notch music presenters during the day but it’s extremely music driven.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 921 ✭✭✭TheBMG

I believe Andy started on the long forgotten Diamond 106 and was also with LLCR in the Liberties before Radio Dublin.

That lineup sounds like it'll be automated from 7-7 to me. Possibly VTed for some of it, considering they had/have 24h VT.

If they call it Virgin Radio Dublin it would fit seamlessly with Tubridy in London and he could finally name check the station, which would seem more coordinated.

Some clever marketing of “Kathryn Thomas at Breakfast, Ryan Tubridy for your workday and Martin King at the Weekend” would be a good tagline.

It would mirror the “Chris Evans at Breakfast and Graham Norton at the weekend” ( when he was with them) tagline they used to use on Virgin Radio UK.

    I could see this working.
