Just read reports and my god absolutely horrible. Both Connacht and munster (chris farrell) have questions to answer what they knew when signing these players

Is the game on premier sports again today? It would be great if florugby had it again on YouTube he quality was very good last week

Edit to add it is on premier sport 1 Ireland

I believe Premier are streaming it but it's not on either of the main channels.

Sean o Brien is so unlucky with injuries very early to be going to the bench.

    Hopefully Illo can play on.

Started fairly well bar the lineout jack has had a couple of nice kicks

    Lovely try

That was unlucky after stealing the lineout. Seemed to be a bit slow to react to the bounce then

Looks like Smith might have to go off now too. Looked lively and was hoping for a big game for him 1st day back.

Vintage cross field by Jack there. Not sure how Mullins dropped it must have took his eye off it. It was right into his hands

Great stuff from Cordero, exactly what he was signed for.

Good half overall. Look good in attack. Pity Chay couldn't catch that one from the kick but 3 tries a good return

Very positive half, Perpignan don't seem to have much about them so we need to avoid giving them easy access to our 22.

No idea how Cathal Forde is so strong in contact, given he's not a huge man. Needs to tighten up a little on his kicks from hand though.

I think he should be in the Ireland squad as he can play 12 and 13 to a high level and his kicking adds an extra dimension.

    It's good for us that's he's not.

A bit blessed there i think.

Very lucky we didn't get a yellow in the last 5 mins but this is a huge win for us

Agree that we were lucky not to get a yellow, but what followed was a great defensive set.

Overall a very positive last two weeks. Our internationals have gotten a good rest and ten points in the bag. Plenty of dry powder for the coming interpros where we should be targeting a win against Ulster.

Fantastic result. That brilliance from Hawky to put the foot on Perpignan's throat was vital.

good win. refereeing didn't allow for any continuity which killed the spectacle. but it's all about the result and Connacht got that. Ralston, Boyle my standouts

Yes, that defence at the end was so encouraging - and the break and subsequent try the icing on the cake.

Super win. Jack deservedly Man of the Match but lots of good performances. Selection for Leinster will be interesting.

Leinster were bad against Clermont. I'd be hoping they don't put their starters out against us. They have Munster the week after so hopefully they rest them.

Bundee signed up for another year. Presumeably if his form holds up we'll be looking at another extention up to the World Cup

Kinda surprised after all the rumours but fair play to him. Delighted to keep him around and he seems very happy in Galway

    Great news

Was probably why he was in Dublin at the weekend. The rumours were always likely to be agent led stuff as part of the negotiations.

On the Coulson thing, it seems Connacht had signed the contract with him before the rape happened and they possibly couldn't get out of it. But I'm surprised he was sanctioned to actually play for Connacht once the accusations came to light. Would have been better to have stood him down, even if they were still contractually obliged to pay him for the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,845 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

It was very odd. Everyone involved in it got contracts after the initial charges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,798 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

I think the IRFU are more interested in perception than facts. Someone could be guilty but if it's not widely known by the public it doesn't affect the IRFU's public image. Someone could be innocent but if it's controversial they see it as bad for business so that player is out.

As regards Coulson: Connacht announced his signing in a post on August 28, 2017. Two weeks later he made his first appearance. Looks like a shotgun marriage to me.

The rape occurred the previous March, so six months before that. Is it likely that they had signed him but not announced the contract?

If his contract was signed after the rape, but it was not divulged to Connacht during the negotiation, it would be incompetence on the part of their lawyers if this was not grounds for invalidation.

Great that he's staying, but we should race him lightly and concentrate on Forde, Hawkshaw & Gavin. Bundee is in great shape but he'll be 37 by the time of the next world cup, he won't make it.

He was stood down and suspended by Grenoble in April 2017 as well, so it's absolutely inconceivable Connacht weren't aware of the allegations (as they then were) at the time.

Even if they'd signed the deal with him prior to March, they absolutely could have gotten out of it surely based on the arrest etc had they wanted to do so.

I have slightly more sympathy for Munster with Chris Farrell - my understanding is his involvement / presence in this didn't come to light until much later, and was actually revealed via a video Coulson submitted of the incident which revealed Farrell was present. The crutch that was found to have been involved in the incident belonged to Farrell.
