The other great thing about that win is it gives Amorim vindication with all the other players for dropping the 2 lads.

The message is this lad knows what he's doing and if I don't apply myself and do what he wants I won't be playing and he'll just find someone else who will.

    to answer….gotta love LLM.

Ruben Amorim is the latest Manchester United manager to win his first Manchester derby. He led United to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City, becoming the first United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to achieve this feat. Quite a memorable debut for Amorim!

tell me about saf 1st manchester derby (a question i typed in verbatim)

Sir Alex Ferguson's first Manchester derby as manager of Manchester United took place on March 7, 1987. The match was held at Old Trafford, and it ended in a 2-0 victory for Manchester United. Goals from Norman Whiteside and Peter Davenport secured the win for United, marking a positive start for Ferguson in this fierce local rivalry. This match was a significant moment in Ferguson's early tenure at United, setting the stage for his future successes with the club.

Thought Anthony was semi decent when he came against them. Played a lovely flick on for Amad who then went down the by line which ended up with Bruno not controlling it out for a gk.

Thought we were defensively solid pretty much most of the game and id give that to Maguire in the middle of the 3, his attitude is brilliant. Definitely worth holding on to, can come in when needed.

Martinez split passing from defence to attack is a huge bonus, best at it.

Yoro looks a tidy player as well, played some nice balls out right for the lads to chase. He's been added in slowly to first team which is 100% the way to go.

Maz again, a superstar of a player, his close control and reading of the game is just class.

Bruno had some very high praise for Ugarte, who seems to be settling in well and is a work horse, something we've needed badly in the middle.

There's nothing to suggest we won't be in top 4 by the end of January. So little in it.

Yoros positioning to receive passes from Onana was top class. Not afraid to drop on to the dead ball line to make an angel, very clever play for someone so young.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Just seen Rubens post mat h interview. What really struck me was why he was asked about dropping Rashford and Garna. One line he said..

"We need to put things in to context within our club, when people are loosing their jobs, we have to put the standards really high and for that they have to fight for their place in the team."

Seems like a no nonsense guy and the more I hear the more I'm like, yup we got the right guy. He's a supporters manager tenfold with his honesty and it's slowly showing on the pitch with his philosophy.

    Well worth checking out

Brilliant to win a game like that so early in Amorim's time as manager.

Lots of little things add to the victory. It's so long since United won away against a major club. It is a long time since United could get close in possession terms against City. United messed up so many games due to conceding two quick goals over the last year so it topped off the win to get two goals like that today.

I also feel that it's only appropriate to remind ourselves again that Erik ten Hag WOULD NOT play Amad...

I generally tend to feel for ETH but every time Amad plays a blinder I'm reminded of that fact.

Ya I was the same I stuck up for him at times especially over the injury crisis and when amad started the season so well I thought we would finally see changes but somehow ten hagg found his way to playing rashford and garnacho all the time and dropping amad, which coincided with our performances dropping too.

The man was mega stubborn to his own and the teams detriment he just totally lost the plot somewhere along the way.

I love Mazraoui but **** hell imagine not playing amad as a 10 when you are stuck and playing maz, he just didn't want to get proven wrong about his own poor decisions that on some level he knew was wrong

I really liked Eth but his loyalty to some players like Rashford played a big part in him losing his job.

Great win and big and hopefully impactful statement leaving the 2 "names" out of the squad..

We need some decent wing backs tho..

certainly a LWB. dalot cant do it. like he's been pretty bad this season but has been played on his wrong side all season.

LWB must be a priority in jan. the left hand side currently cannot produce chances. that includes the brains trust.

its good to see this debate happening on sky eventually.

i've always had a cynical view that keane/neville/sky/even carra not criticising ole. the access to him was worth more than criticism.

60 mins or so aside pre game, rashford wasn't missed at all; like at all. personally i will hope he leaves in the summer. some will say for the better of him, others for the better of the club.

rashford is not a very good player, and should be sold based on that. his wages included, means he needs to be a priority so sell.

michu had a good record for a while. it happens.

You'd hope that missing an occasion like yesterday would make Nacho knuckle down and just get on with it. He's still very young and was more or less undroppable under ETH so it wouldn't be a surprise if his ego had been getting the better of him. He has the talent to have a huge future at the club but his attitude has to be right. Rashford on the other hand, at 27 years of age, it's disgusting to see someone of his stature, earning what he's earning and being left out of the squad because of attitude. He is doing himself no favours in terms of keeping the backing of fans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,176 ✭✭✭NITRO95

The backing is gone and rightly so. The Rashford debate has been going on for over 2 years now. He should be at his peak but instead he's being left out of a derby day squad, not team but the squad because of his attitude and application. That video from a few weeks ago with the gloves absolutely sickened me and spoke volumes of his attitude. I'd gladly never see him play for Utd again.

Nacho needs to get his head out of his ass. He's still young so the mistakes he's making are not surprising. His decision making in game needs to improve. His decision making off the field also needs to improve. If it's true about Nacho and his brother being responsible for the leaks via that twitter account then this needs to be a wake up call.

And to put it in simplistic terms that are indisputable, if Garnacho or Rashford play yesterday in place of Amad then we never get the pen and we never get the second goal because neither guy makes those runs. Rashford never has and never will, Nacho needs to wake up and learn to work harder.

Rashford has...never made those runs? Is that really where we are now?

The re-writing of history just goes on I guess.

United beat a better City team a few months ago in a cup final with both Rashford and Garnacho on the wings. They both played very well.

Great if Amorim has identified the both of them as the main problem. I've been critical of Garnacho before but he is very talented and under the right management could be great. I don't think that will happen at United, especially not now but it is there. He shouldn't have been in the position of being a starter at 19 anyway.

Amad is and has been the best option on the right since the start of last season, Garnacho did have some good games there though.

We'll see what happens I guess. Interesting reading the opinions on the previous worst and most overpaid player in the world Harry Maguire though. He'll even Antony appears to have convinced many following his few good minutes.

If you can't see the difference in application and attitude between Maguire & Anthony and Rashford then there's no point in even responding to you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,269 ✭✭✭paulbok

As bad as Maguire was for us, you couldn't have a go at him over his professionalism. And since he lost the captaincy and his starting position, he pretty much has done well when he has played. While I still think he should and will be moved on this summer, I wouldn't be surprised if the club offer him a new contract albeit on vastly reduced wages.

Rashford is a completely different situation. Everything about him screams he doesn't want to play or even be at United anymore.

He was fantastic when he first broke into the team and showed glimpses of that ability every so often, and the club did fail him big time by not managing his back injuries better. Yet most players who were mismanaged over the years still were able to act professional and the club has finally started getting rid of those who weren't over the last couple of windows.

Rashford isn't and shouldn't be immune because he had 2)3 good seasons out of his time in the first team.

United need to be even more ruthless in getting rid of players that don't or can't give 100% every game, so for me, Rashford goes into the list to be moved on asap along with Shaw, Antony and it's looking like Mount to leave

The reason Maguire is been praised is because despite all the abuse he got he has shown how a true professional works, he went through a bad batch but as someone above pointed out he's been fairly solid now whenever he's called on. And Anthony, for all his lack of ability he cannot be accused of not working hard.

Working hard is really all anyone is asking for from Rashford. I think everyone agrees he has the ability. Look at Wout last year, not much ability but worked his arse off and was generally accepted because of that.

You're still giving him a pass because he did well a couple of seasons ago. How long are you gonna give him that pass for?

As one of the senior players in the squad on one of the highest contracts do you not agree he should be trying harder?! I guarantee if he was visibly trying his best but not scoring regularly the fans would still be on his side.

I think it's probably prudent to wait for how the lads respond in the weeks ahead before making any sweeping statements.

The challenge has been laid down, they'll either rise to it or they won't. If they don't they won't have a future at the club.

This is the way it was under Ferguson and should always be, finally we have someone willing to do the hard work and really challenge these guys in a way that they can understand and respond to.

Hopefully there's no noise from agents or family members and the two lads get stuck in and contribute according to their talent and ability.

Danny Murphy full of praise for us on MOTD.....I'm not used to this 😐

Does the Garnacho cup final goal not have a similar aspect to the Amad run? He chased and pressured the defender on what should have been their ball easy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,305 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

As a tangent; I feel that making Ferguson take a step back was a huge step in the club moving forward. Amorim has the space to be his own manager.

I don't want to make excuses for those before him, but I do think it was a hard job made harder, while Ferguson was floating around. By his nature, he's never not going to have some influence or interfere in some way.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,762 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Garnacho is probably out because of how often he gives the ball away and that he takes too many touches, slows play down. Amorim will be as stubborn as Ten Hag was on players if they continually give the ball to the opposition.

The ability to beat a player, find a pass, get goals, have that bit of magic are there in Garna but he tries to do those things the majority of the time. But he is only 20 and has played under a manager that was asking for more chaotic play than Amorim.

What sets Amad apart today is his ability to retain possession and keep the ball moving.

Will be interesting to see who he rotates in and out for the games vs Spurs and the game vs Bournemouth.

I'd guess Yoro, Lindelof, Malacia, Casemiro, Zirkzee all start - maybe Antony?

Mount you would assume is out, Shaw obviously out, and i could see Rashford and Garnacho coming back in for bench roles? Or do they start in the cup to 'prove' themselves.

I do think we need to start toning down the rotation, but it is a cup game. So I dunno really, what I want from the team.

Onana, Yoro, Maguire, Lindelof, Antony, Malacia, Casemiro, Mainoo, Amad, Bruno, Zirkzee?
