Just noticed that my orders have been changed to "Your package may be lost". Little or no chance of getting them for Christmas now. Will need to buy alternatives.

That's normal when the delivery date passes by, they usually do show up though

As usual the media are days behind on the holyhead delays and with "journalists" no more than scaremongering story writers, you simply cannot believe any of the utter rubbish spouted by the media. Even the Irish times and Business post have got caught in the hype.

Yeah, Holyhead is closed, but Fishguard, Pembroke, Liverpool and Cairnryan are open.

December is a QUIET month for freight traffic on the Irish sea as most retail stock has been delivered in Oct & Nov.

The delays will just be with the trucks that got stuck and hoped it was just a 2-3 day issue. Many will have already re-routed and new dispatches were routed to other ports and there are just minor delays on new dispatches.

I've several pallets coming from the UK. The ones that left last Friday arrived yesterday (2 days late). Those dispatched yesterday are scheduled to be delivered on Monday (normal).

My guess is Amazon will update their delivery dates later today as the backlog in Holyhead this morning is down to a few dozen trucks which will be travelling to Liverpool or Fishguard today (that's a 6.30am update from one of the largest UK - Irl shipping companies)

Holyhead closing is down to Irish Ferries sailing in the storm and hitting the berth and breaking it. That is two damaging incidents Irish Ferries have had in the last month.

To alleviate the delays, Stena are running freight services with the Stena Adventurer - a huge ship, from Dublin Port to Fishguard and the Stena Estrid has ran from Dublin Port to Liverpool. Stuff is moving but trucks are in the wrong places.

oh dear…. I have a few things in the Amazon system… they were rescheduled from 10th to 12th and now the app says they may be lost. It’s not the end of the world, they are gifts for an adult so they’ll understand if there’s a delay.

however I do have Christmas dinner ordered from Marks, (for a variety of reasons so no need to tell me off about that please). They aren’t showing any delays or interruptions in supply but it’s possible. I’ve no idea where it’s all coming from.

good thread here, some knowledgeable posters posting.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/1hc4d6w/a_ferry_has_wrecked_the_berth_in_holyhead_so_all/

"Edit. Just heard there, it could take a week just complete the survey on the jetty so as of now, all services suspended until at least the 20th. There will be massive delays across the network but both companies are making adjustments to keep goods flowing."

Long story short with a picture link borrowed from the above thread, both IF and SL have separate unloading ramps side by side but both use the one jetty (one each side). One of the structures on the IF side collapsed and the whole structure is in question now. Worst case the whole thing has to be rebuilt (months), best case is the current jetty is approved and SL get going but IF have to wait a little longer to rebuild their missing piece on their side.

High horse mounted, as nice as M&S dinner is, try support local / Irish producers, M&S are the most impacted here as they don't have a proper regional distribution center (RDC) in Ireland as they dont need one because they stock almost no irish produce, they literally fill their trucks at UK RDCs full of British produce (they even unashamedly have the red tractor / British flag on loads of their food products with messages of being proud to support British farmers on their Irish shelves) and drive that truck to the Irish stores. Any ferry impact and their stores suffer.

Plenty of local Irish butchers offering produce nicer than M&S supporting local jobs and encouraging local people to complete apprenticeships such as a butcher. Better for the environment and all that too.

@flyer_query I said I didn’t want comments on why I had ordered prepared food from marks…

I have 2 parents in their 90, one with dementia and a partner recovering from a heart attack to care for. And f3k all assistance I am making life as easy as possible for me. Plus a full time job to keep going until Christmas Eve so you can shove your high horse where the sun don’t shine,

I wish you the best this christmas - you have a lot on your plate. My situation is similar, but not as bad. Good luck to you x

    thank you.

I’m managing ok so far. Holiday schedules for home care is a juggling act.

Trying to get some semblance of a celebration is a challenge. Luckily the kids are great and will help as much as they can. And prepared dinner in foil containers is going to be a big help. 😃

I know what it’s like, we have a member of the family with dementia and it’s a struggle to say the least

I’m sure marks products will be fine, the other ports will open up to take the pressure off big companies

Hope it all goes smoothly for you

Not wishing to drag off topic but we have a similar situation. Unfortunately HomeHelp/Care Packages are in short supply currently and for the last few years. The stress of constantly chasing them to fulfil hours for is enough for any person. If you don't chase and be persistent, they do forget about you unfortunately.

Hope you all manage to have a nice Christmas, come what may, wish you well.

we are normally ok, between family, privately paid and HSE but holiday times are a challenge and my partner being ill was the last straw. And I need to full time job to pay for all the extra help and the medical bills…

be grand. We’ll cope. Not much choice.

But I hear ya on the chasing the home help people. A dementia sufferer can’t cope with constant changes in faces too so while they are generally lovely people 3 faces in one day is not great. I’d say th home help company dread seeing my number come up on their phones. I have them on speed dial.

Ordered something the other day from Amazon with a delivery date of 28 December. Clicked on the product this morning and it has a delivery date of 22 December so not taking any chances and cancelled the first order and reordered. Same product, same seller but the original delivery date had not been updated. Odd.

    Hey,

M&S customer services told me they expect no delays for the Xmas food orders, if that helps ease your worries.

I had the same message today from a delivery date of 12th Dec. I requested a refund. I then ordered one of the items again and was given a delivery date of 17th Dec so fingers crossed it arrives.

I had something due yesterday, 12th, from Amazon DE. I got an update saying it was delayed, new date was 19th. It arrived today, 13th.

thats good, the only thing is Amazon DE don't use Holyhead. They ship from mainland Europe to Rosslare so they are not part of this bigger UK delay.

I’ve loads of Tuesday 17th Dec delivery dates instead of 28th Dec appearing for me now,

True. But I also ordered something from Amazon UK and it shipped from the same place as the Amazon DE order which was France. It was also initially delayed, but then arrived the next day.

it’ll take a few days but shipments from Holyhead will be routed via Fishguard Pembroke Liverpool or the Scottish ports and these lines will continue as long as necessary: we are lucky in that there’s plenty of options and capacity to take up the slack

All new amazon orders are showing Dec 16th for me but all old orders still showing the 24th. So cancelled existing orders for the 24th and placed new orderes for delivery the 16th. Dunno why they didn’t update existing orders to be shipped first before accepting orders

not sure what your point is as your original post was only talking about Amazon De. That's the point I was replying to. I wouldn't have been aware of your Amazon UK order, so there is no point in mentioning it after my comment.

    Anyway happy you're sorted.

Wasn't trying to make a point. Just that something ordered from UK seemed to come from France, so maybe not everything from Amazon UK would be caught up in Holyhead is all.

oh sorry Marlay, I misunderstood you. Maybe they are re-routing parcels at this stage through France. Good plan.

They always had a decent percentage of .co.uk items dispatched from France. I had three in Sept & Oct. Nothing new in that.

I missed all of this and literally just ordered a few things from Santa. Is it a lost cause? Should I cancel? We're going away on the 19th...
