Anyone know if you can pick up japanese or chinese channels? If so, what direction are they?

PheonixTV (from HK) in Mandarin with some Cantonese is on Eurobird, so a Sky digital dish or Free to Air Digital set up pointing at 28 E will get you that, along with CCTV 9 (all in English, from China Central Television). CCTV 9 is also available on Hotbird @ 13E, as is CCTV 4, which is the international Mandarin channel from CCTV, with cultural programming. It's a part of the Greek Nova package I think. My LNB was too old to cover those frequencies, but I understand a free to air digital receiver should do the trick.

Don't know much about Japanese though, I think JSTV does some stuff in the clear at 28 E, but it's mostly scrambled. I might be getting my satellites mixed up on that one though, I'm not within the footprint right now!

    Thanks mate.

You mentioned that your not within footprint right now, would a bigger dish help? If so, what size dish would you need in ireland for jap/chin channels?

Do you know any websites about asian channels in europe and where to get cams and cards?

The reason I'm out of the footprint…I'm in China! I was actually just checking out Boards.ie to get the latest state of affairs re C4 etc on Sky digital for my parents who are getting a dish put up soon…!

The website for Phoenix is http://www.phoenixcne.com/
They list some special offers about one off setups to get the Free to Air signals from 28 E.

A Sky mini dish would work for this one, for Hotbird an 80 cm should do in most of Ireland, but there are other people more qualified than me on the boards to answer that one!

The JSTV website is http://www.jstv.co.uk/, as linked by Lyngsat.com, our first port of call! It lists subs at €150 to sign up then €50 per month. Ouch!

Also, don't forget to ask in the Japanese forum as well! I've seen a few Cantonese TV stations mentioned on the Chinese board but I think they are online rather than satellite. Still, worth a look!
