Never mind those lads in S Galway. Teak tough hurlers, they'll hurl the sea back where it came from!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Field conditions are saturated countrywide and this heavy rain today isn’t helping the trees defences for tonight

Booked into a hotel with the wife but don’t want to be sitting up all night listening to every “creak and groan” 🤭 isn’t that the whole point of getting a night away with the wife?! 😂

    I walked myself into that one didn't I 😂

Not to be spamming the thread but just on the Wicklow red warning, the hourly forecast for my area which is 8km from the mountains in Glenmalure is showing nothing really close to red level winds. I know it isn't an exact science but the point is that Wicklow is probably gone red as a result of a few exposed areas getting hit hard and the wind direction exacerbating the issue. Most people in Wicklow are not going to be subjected to the 150kph gusts that are showing on the charts.

On ME, showing gusts of 122km/hr at 3am and 4am in Greystones. Have not seen that before here.

Good on ya 👏 👌 ya may as well book into a hotel , at least your gonna be in warmth as long as the power doesn't go but in red warnings it's almost eminent

By the way, quietly happy, being a Darragh (that's the 'D' in username) that this storm should not be a damp squid! 😀

Met.ie showing up to 126 for Roundwood. However, probably have to try and put people going up the Sally Gap to "experience" the wind too!

Met Eireann's forecast looks similar to the Swiss 'Nowcast' model, which to my eye looks more like what I'd expect to see in this kind of set up. Big gusts in the highest areas and much more tempered in the lower-lying areas. Now I haven't done any in-depth study of that, could be way off, but just looking at some areas' hourly forecasts I can see similarities with this model output.

With Darwin the conditions were shocking ahead of the red warning - the red was only given as conditions deteriorated. Here in South Tipp it got really bad from about 1.30pm to 3.30 - but due the the boardsies at the time I was prepared, I thought, until that wind came. I hope I never hear them like that again - the roar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Met eireann showing gusts of 117 with a real feel of -9 at 3am in Bray, skin ye alive to be out in that. We're up on a bit of a hill, should be sheltered enough but still will be interesting to see how the wind direction effects us for sure.

Rough night in store for Roundwood, Wicklow, never saw anything like it, those gust numbers are scary.

Don't look great for Wicklow, I am meant to go to some Christmas Kids thing in Rathdrum on Sunday, I suspect that maybe screwed.

Any indication from the charts that Darragh may be more or less intense as currently expected? Have removed any moveable external items into the house. That said it's not the first time based on guidance from this forum. Hence the question

Indeed, a few squeaky bums in Greystones about the Christmas market marquee!

Out here on the west coast those winds are common but there are very few trees any more. And most buildings have been well tested over the years.

Serious damage from fallen trees in Wicklow tonight I'd say.

Met.ie are obvioudly reacting to the 06z GFS for higher gust speeds for Wicklow and Wexford alert change. West and Northwest gust speeds for the 06z GFS dropped just under red category as far as I can tell but they haven't changed to Orange

Getting very breezey here in Ennis already, it's going to be a long night, charging everything here in case of a power cut.

Workplace in West mayo telling us to work usual 8 to 8 tonit as warning from 9 to 3 . Can't say it's going down well at all . Whose liability if someone crashes into falling tree, if warning turns out to be an hour or two too late?

12z AROME is a slight downgrade for parts of Wicklow now and somewhat reflective of that Nowcast model, if slightly higher. Just looking frame by frame there's maybe an average 10kph drop from the 06z run. Still very potent, but at this stage we'll take what we can get.

Edit:ICON 12z (shocked!) also showing a small downgrade too
