Feck it, I woke the last thread with a (deleted) plea for someone else to start it, so here we go again… to anyone who still drops by- the challenge is 30 mins running minimum each day for December. Stick your name down below, enter total distance, and date you stopped running.

Pace isn't an issue. Treadmill is allowed. Try and give a comment if you post, just to keep it interesting beyond the numbers.

Its harder than it seems, I'm going for 8 years in a row, it's a great way to stay fit across the Xmas period; best of luck if there's anyone left out there in the great Boards Void.

First time lacing up runners since June of this year, after a night out full of Guinness, and at my heaviest weight since I lived in the US. Have a notion to waddle round a triathlon next year so hoping this kick-starts something.

Thank you Marty, I shall summon your injured spirit for company those days my own is flagging. Hope you get over your injury soon.

Three days in and every muscle is as tight as a really f***ing tight knot. To be expected after a six month running absence, but running always felt like a type of penance so I will persevere. I'm having to keep the pace slow, and focus on good posture (and keep it flat and on soft trail) in order to stave of injury- 100kg is fine in the sea but not so good impacting through knees and joints. I've missed running, and its joyful to be able to do so again.

When I totalled up this weeks kilometerage the number declared I had just doubled my 2024 running accumulation, which shouts failure while whispering success. Any previous moderate career in Triathlon has been well and truly forgotten; bike sold, wetsuit packed away, and the sea and pool embraced. Still, you can't beat the slow comeback trail, especially when that trail is sodden with damp leaves and damper muck underneath. A very slow plod today in heavy rain, to remind the spirit there's a bit of life to be squeezed out yet.

I'll keep this going a couple more weeks then join everyone in the ether. A few short years ago posting on the internet meant you were helping a likeminded group add to some collective joyful experience… now people are wary that posting sells a piece of their soul away. And the soul should be kept whole, at all costs.

Half way through this epic voyage, already a mighty 78km ahead of any challengers. That part doesn't matter; there is no competition, so no value in that aspect any more. I'm fully aware there are silent exiles from these parts who have put in a lot more December training; more power to them and I hope they understand this message in a bottle flung into shallow waters. For anyone who might stoop towards the drain in 2025…

…halfway through and its been worth it; yet again. The base was lower than ever, and knees and hips arguing every day. But getting out for 30 mins each day (or 10 mins, or 100 mins, or anything that gives you a purpose) beats the hell out of thinking about it. The next couple of weeks are the fun part; it's selfish to slip away for 30 mins each day during this busy social time, but there's nothing wrong with being selfish.

Pain has been growing over the past couple of weeks- first the knees, then the back, and now I'm walking funny owing to a muscle problem in one of my glutes. I'm tempted to take a pain killer to make it through the next 4 days but will be sensible and pull the plug; thus ends an 8 year streak.

To be honest I'd no business getting even this far- weighing around 102kg at the start, and not having run more than a couple of times before Dec; there were always impact and stress injuries waiting to occur. Still, it's been fun getting out on a few hills again, the routine was useful in curbing the worst Christmas excesses, and I dropped 6kg which is a bonus. Back to a pool focus for the next few months (LC Champs are in early March and I'd like to swim 1:30 pace for the 1,500), and I might see about signing up for a tri or two if I can get the weight under control.

Best of luck to everyone hitting their goals in 2025.
