Hopefully any new cycle lanes will now be cancelled. We have enough of them already, too many in fact.

Nope, loads more on the way on bus connects routes. Hopefully makes driving worse for motorists and they use other methods to travel.

The greatest wipe out of all time. Will they even get one seat? Being woke numpties does not work.

So when all the resources are gone, I can see exactly which posters here will be clambering to be first in the queue wanting to be looked after without admitting once that maybe their short-sighted behaviour back in the day was the cause of the depletion in the first place.

Not I said the pig, not I said the cat, not I said the cow. 🙄 🖕

Construction of Active travel routes such as Cycle-lanes will still go ahead, Greens in power or not.

The Green Party will still receive state funding as they're percentage of the national vote was just above 3%. Had it been just below they would have lost it. They might be back but their fight will be even harder.

I kind of like the idea of Rhodders getting elected on his own and being treated like a pariah for the next 4 to 5 years with wolves circling him from within the party because his weakness is that he isn't a vote-getter on which a parlimentary party can be based.

But they didn’t have AI in the 70’s. Now we have.

The majority of humans are now superfluous. What are we going to do them? How are we going to keep them happy?

Well. didn’t take long for the Green final solution to carbon footprints to rear its head

You forgot about where the migrants build houses for the pent up demand from Irish citizens and then the migrants become Irish citizens and contribute to economic and social development for Ireland inc.

Last time out the Green party got a free ride on the back of a 16 year old girls pigtails. This time, that left wing floating vote mostly went to Social Democrats. The tide has gone out on climate change politics, the most obvious sign being the no shows in Baku for the UN COP following the election of US President Trump, and the collapse of the German government. Their people and legislation are still in place, while much of the momentum has been taken out of the cause, they must in future compete with Social Democrats and Labour for votes.

It was the late 1970s when the final parts of rural electrification were completed in Ireland. We did not have personal computers, internet or smart phones at the time. Consider the materials savings from all the devices that existed in the '70s and '80s have been consolidated in your smart phone. Sony Walkman, VCR players, DVD players, record players, radios, telephones. When did an encyclopedia Britannica salesman last call to your door?

Ever hear of Parkison's law? work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. AI is mostly hype, it's used by company CEOs to boost their stock prices, the market is forward looking and wants to hear what companies AI story. More importantly aside from NVIDIA, who is making money from it? AI is a bubble, it will burst when it fails to deliver profitability and the next story hits the market. That's not to say there is nothing useful in the technology, It's the creative people who will be hit most by AI, the image processing is good, but it is mediocre rather than excellent. As an example the Green party slogan "Greens deliver", is probably an accurate representation for the next stage in the career development for many ex-Green TDs. Picture courtesy of AI.

But the officials will be replaced by computer points - no subordinates, no egos, no rivalry.

I'm amazed at how much the Green vote crumbled, made all the more amazing with FF/FG essentially standing still. Was expecting them to hold 3-6 seats.

Its now going to be down to whether FF/FG opt for the SDs and Labour. Think it will be Labour of they win any more seats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,633 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

I would be surprised if FF & FG do not go with a few independents rather than Labour or SD`s, both of which are green lite and the SD`s talking themselves up now after the election as SF lite. There are plenty of gene poll FG & FF independents they could rely on to stay the course for at most a few junior ministerial posts.

The exit poll may not have been that accurate, but with just 2% of both those that voted either FG or FF giving a transfer to Greens, it showed what their supporters thought of greens after them being over 4 years in government with FF & FG.

No need for FFG to entertain Labour or Soc Dems, its much easier to go the like-minded independent route, now that they will have 85 or 86 seats on their own.

I reckoned the same. Green party are pulling transfers from the same left wing pool of voters as Labour, Social Democrats, and others. They did not have much to sell going into this election (bicycle paths, RTE bailout, more green taxes), that's despite decades of constant climate change catastrophism echoed across the media, the public have switched off on that.

Uncontrolled immigration is gnawing into FF/FGs vote, suspect they will lean to independents to stem that since Labour and Social Democrats won't go there. ~86 seats between both parties, easier to buy up some independents and divvy up the ministerial portfolios between themselves.

When I wrote that comment they were still somewhere in the 70s combined. Being that close to the magic 88 I now think they might not even try for a majority.

A largely rough election for the Greens. John Gibbons who usually says a lot of smart things is out criticizing the electorate on bluesky. Sad to see he's lowered himself so much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,040 ✭✭✭Packrat

John Gibbons never says smart things.

Always stupid or misinformed things - at best.

More commonly it's dangerous malign hate filled lies.

Just had a look at his posts. Had I not known, I would have thought it was some kind of parody account. Seriously unhinged posts, hope they don't reflect his actual beliefs. Very unhealthy way to live ones life.

He is a true believer, think in terms of a modern day John of the apocalypse from Revelations.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the eco-warriors.

I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door to renewable energy, which no one can shut. For you have only a little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my climate policies. Look at those who belong to the congregation of Climate Deniers, who claim to be scientists but are liars instead. I will make them come and bow down at your recycling bins, and they will know that I love you.

Because you have kept my command to reduce, reuse, and recycle, I will also keep you from the hour of global warming that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the Earth. I am coming soon. Hold fast to your reusable bags, so that no one will take your carbon credits.

    From today’s IT Business section…….

It would be preferable for all sorts of reasons for government to take responsibility, but the electoral hiding administered by voters to the Green Party last weekend makes it unlikely any incoming coalition will show the same enthusiasm for fighting climate change and putting pressure on business to cut emissions as the outgoing one did.

The more likely outcome is for the incoming government to do the minimum and preferably blame it on the European Commission.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

    I doubt that

But at least this thread might die because it is certainly not about Green policies and just a place for people to moan about the green Party

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭j62

It ain’t just Ireland, all them EU wide green policies are going out the window as they have strangled European economies and this is leading to rise of extreme left and right

As for the Greens in Ireland perhaps they spend the next few years deciding whether to become a pragmatic single issue (climate change party) or continue on their stupid pinko Left manifesto where technologies like nuclear are demonised and taxes are the only solution to everything

To think that in recent history the EU were considering extra tariffs on goods from more polluting countries and less on the greener countries to now this. Very poor form indeed!

Sounds to me like businesses can't survive unless they pollute which is a ridiculous belief
