I have a Dacia 2020 (77,000kms) & have just paid €520 for front brake disk & brake pads PLUS €220 for a service! Am in shock. Is this extortionate?? Went through the AA as I’m a member. Thanks.

You dont say what model, but assuming a Duster, you can buy disks for 60euro for the front and pads for 15euro for the front so say an hour a side at 75€ totalling €150 , yeah its a bit strong to be honest. Should be closer to €300 i would have said….

Now if it isnt a duster and is a much bigger yoke they might change.

The service is probably right to be honest. You can get a full service kit for about €90 so the rest would be labour.

Based on the service being about right, i am wondering did the calipers need changing on the front? or did he come across some other issue in the course of the job….

thanks for your detailed response. It’s a Sandero (you couldn’t get smaller!). He just said front disk & brake pads. I just wasn’t expecting €520. The charge for the service was fine.

Go to any car parts store online and insert your details and will come up with prices and makes.

Does sound expensive for front brakes.

What did they actually change on receipt details.

It’s still with them since 8:30am this morning & it might be finished at 7pm this evening. Because I went through the AA nobody rang me & I had to ring the garage & they said they were waiting for payment for the disks etc. The whole day has been a total mess. I put in the price for a Dacia Sandero online & the pads & disks seemed laughably cheap. How and ever, I haven’t a clue either so am depending on people not to rip me off. On the paperwork it says ‘Repair: front disc & brake pads €460 plus €60 Vat’. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't understand what you mean by going through the AA? Did you have to get it towed somewhere? Why didn't you get a price beforehand?

you can book a service through the AA when you’re a member and I did that & dropped the car out this morning. This afternoon was the first time the brake pad situation was mentioned. I need the car for tomorrow (no sign of it yet) so authorised payment. I as just taken aback at the price, that’s all.

Also take photos of wheel to make sure we see new discs and pads.

    Repair what?

Replace front Discs and Pads it should say i would have thought.

I would also get a price of replacing Discs and Pads from a main dealer.

If your price is loads cheaper Why and What for are they screwing you for needs further investigation. Pads and Discs max time to fit 1hour max unless seals got reversed pushing back calliper piston.
