1 is a non issue for me. I like Apple Carplay but Tesla has Spotify, Google Maps, Netflix etc and an incredible UI so it makes up for it IMO

i noticed that also, plus all paints are included at no additional cost, except the kings red.

Does anyone know why dealers have the GTX Performance plus is priced, well in excess of 41k in all cases on done deal, when the VW configurator has €40,420, for all colours, or, €40,855 in kings red, which includes delivery etc of €1,395

VW isnt anywhere close to Tesla on the infotainment stuff but it has added Spotify in the latest software so they are moving in the right direction…. just at a snails pace!

Add to that the anomalous pricing of the GTX models, which are a steal, and the HK sound system, head-up display, and DCC and the basic fact that I've loved the current ID.3 I'm driving and the decision was easy.

I also wonder whether this anomalously-low pricing on the GTX models will last. The cars are significantly pricier in every other market. If there is any price increase on the new ones in the coming few years, I reckon it will increase the value of my car (or, rather, mitigate its depreciation somewhat) when it's time to sell it.

That is the $64k question…. what is the story with the pricing! If it were across the EU you would just say its down to VW needing to increase sales but this is very much an Irish pricing only question as the car is significantly more expensive everywhere else.

Even its sister car the Cupra Born VZ, which is effectively the same car under the hood, starts at €62k in Ireland!

The ID.3 GTX pricing in Ireland is a head scratcher!

Here's another observation, i was in looking at the Born but the GTX ID3 now tickles a fancy, especially the GTX Plus with DCC, which the standard GTX doesn't have i believe, the 20" wheel are standard, and if you select the 20" black wheels (no cost option), it removes a small piece of trim around the wheel arch. But if you select the 202 black wheels with performance tyres (still bridgestone but 96instead of 95), it adds it back in. Visible in the configurator.

The performance tyres are 235 vs 215, so that extra trim is presumably just to catch the extra dirt that would fly up on the wings due to the wider tyres?

So you mean if I replace the original 215s when they wear out with 235s—as I was planning to do—I also need to add a bit of trim?

The performance tyres as an option aren’t worth it. They are €120 per corner, which would be a bargain for the tyres. But you’re not paying for the tyres; you’re paying only for the tyre upgrade from the 215s. Not only that, but you’ll be losing €2 in VRT relief for every €3 over €40k. So you’ll be paying €840 by my calculations just for the difference between 215s and 235s

Im only speculating. I dont know for sure, but it would seem to make sense that that is what its for. Will it drive fine without it…. of course, just possibly a dirtier car as a result.

It could also be that they are just adding that extra trim as an indicator that its the performance tyres but has no function as such…. i doubt it though.

Are you’s talking about a black piece of trim similar to this? If so, its only there to meet EU regulations on how far the wheels & tyres can stick out from the body of the car

Its similar but longer but what you said makes sense, so it has no functional impact then?! And I doubt you'd get pulled up on not having it if you added 235 tyres later.

Yeah its just there to make the body a few cm wider in order to fit the bigger wheels & tyres. Its some EU safety requirement that the wheels can’t stick out past the wing or something like that

I wouldn't want that trim even if I had 235s. It looks bad.

ID.3 has better UI, easier to control wipers, easier to read speed, there is even HUD is some models. According to published specs those ID.3 GTX have better acceleration and more range than similarly priced TM3 RWD. Neither car is technically better, unless you choose a specific metrics and ignore others.

I think main reason for me to swap ID.3 to TM3 was VW dealership network.

I really liked that my old ID.3 gently adjusted speed to match speed limit and it was easily over ridden but a great reminder. . And the speed limit was usually correct. Really surprised the Tesla is not nearly as good in that regard.

Tesla has the functionality when using autosteer, but manual intervention is required if using cruise control

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,072 ✭✭✭User1998

Personally I much rather use the scroll wheel on a Tesla than the physical wiper stalk of a VW. And I like to stay away from main dealers as much as possible so another win for the Tesla IMO. I guess it just comes down to personal preference

The wipers are now a fixed button on the wheel, but when you press it the old scroll wheel interface comes up to allow you to change any setting.

I usually press it in the morning after preheating just to wipe the windscreen the once

It does, but it way less reliable. It often makes mistakes and sometimes does not allow to set actual speed limit manually.

Never experienced that across 3 Teslas, could be road specific perhaps e.g. misaligned speed limit signs

There are two issues at play, one is what you mentioned (indeed car fails at fixed locations in Ireland) but there is also sign recognition issue where is fails randomly. It seems that driver sometimes is not allowed to set autosteer speed to match actual limit for some reason, but if there is a trick to solve it let me know.

I did experience both cars over longer time so VW is miles ahead of Tesla in this aspect.

strange. I experience it a lot in Ireland and when driving on the continent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭Ricey3509

just a FYI , the PCP rate on the GTX just went to 3.9% , HP still 0%.

Never experienced it either. Maybe your cameras need fixing?

Drove Ireland to NI and back over the last few days and every sign picked, every speed limit matched and every sign converted to kn while in NI.

May also be an AP setting for current or max speed limit?

Done a 500km trip and it was flawless thankfully.

Equally, the same trip in the BMW picks uk the signs perfectly.

    My experience is the same.

OP, what price were you quoted for ID3 GTX? My local dealer quoted me today 45570e for GTX Performance Plus(added heat pump as its optional extra).

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,443 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Assuming no other options it should be the below plus dealer related charges.

Maybe the dealer did not take the SEAI Grant off their price.

Quoted just €40k and was told price was special offer for only few days. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. My dealer said he has two at that price. A black and a grey arriving early January

I watched a YouTube video of a guy in the UK only getting 55 miles range from a 4 year old ID3 winter cold usage.

This is putting me off :(

I'll go back to him. That price does not seem right
