Hi, i recently noticed my gpu was over heating to the touch, very hot, but under full load was 78c, i replaced the card today, and finding a similar issue with the new card, also, im finding when gaming, nothing too heavy, battlefield one, the fans are blowing quite hard and inside the case is getting very hot, i have 4 fans in it, never had the issue before, what im thinking, could the motherboard be faulty and on its way out? im also finding it difficult to turn the pc on sometimes, i have to mess with the pci express cables to the gpu? any advise is appreicated

That temp is fairly normal for a GPU these days. They're expected and intended to run hot.

yea its not as much the internal tempature, but the gpu itself is scalding hot to touch, and inside the case is over heating, and the cpu fan is spinning up alot.

You may want to add case fans, or look into fans with higher throughput to stop heat building up inside.

What's the case and fan layout?

List what you have including the case.

Some cases have very poor airflow (cooling) due to their design.

Is there a lot of space around the card?

well i have an rx 6700 xt, ryzen 3700x , 32gb ram, any card ive had in it up to previously hasnt overheated just the last 2 days, 2 seperate cards are heating up pretty heavy and i cant figure out why

It's not overheating, it's just hot. An RX 6700XT won't thermal throttle until 110C normally. What's the temp with the system at idle? If there's suddenly a lot more heat than usual, it could be something different, such as a crypto miner infection instead. But what's the case and fan setup?

basically, the heat coming out of the pc is quite harsh, and to touch the card is very hot. i got 4 fans in the case

I think you're going to have to be bit more precise than its hot, for anyone to help you.

    What are the exact temps.

cpu temp 77c and gpu 60c, the heat is literally radiating out the side glass its getting so warm

That sounds normal enough temps to me.

My CPU usual peaks just under 70c and my GPU around 67c.

It sounds like the hot air is getting stuck in the case though. As suggested above better case fans may be a solution or the flow in the case is poor and better fans may help but ultimately a new case may be better.

YEA ITS not as much what the core temps are, but the exterior of the graphics card is getting too hot, and the side glass is getting too warm, i have a feeling the motherboard is on its way out

At max load, the heat output (TDP of the card) should be 230W. If you look up 230W heaters, that's the equivalent amount of heat that you need to escape the system, when it is working hard. And that is normal, not overheating.

yea problem is, i replaced the 6700xt with an older gtx 1080, was fine the first few days, then the thing was blowing heat like a fan heater, i thought it was the card, so switched to the bigger card, same story

Yeah, as somebody else said, make sure you are not unsuspectingly mining crypo from some malware on your system.

In task manager, when you are idle, not playing games, check the gpu % use i've highlighted in yellow below.

    image.png

it should be 1% - 4% sitting doing nothing.

If you are doing nothing, and the GPU is high percentage, well, that would be a concern, and would explain your issues.

Mine is just a laptop gpu, but you should find it in the same place in taskbar - performance

i think i solved it, the fan connector to the motherboard, the 4 pin one, wasnt fully pushed onto the connector, a friend who knows a bit about electronics said that it could have been interfering with the fan speeds if it wasnt fully onto it because it wasnt getting enough voltage. the fans WERE spinning, but that must have been causing the issues. seems to have coolded down a fair bit now. is it normal to feel a little heat on the side glass of the pc case?

    during heavy use….yes

yea it was fine during idle or light use, just when i went to play a game for more then 10 mins, the thing was blowing like a radiator lol
