It has a built in speaker which is ok considering its size/price and is perfectly usable with decent volume, but you can plug in your own speakers or connect via Bluetooth to headphones or other speakers also. Chromecast works too as it has a HDMI slot - I tried it last night and it worked perfectly.

not sure I'm how much I'd trust a site like that either which is basically just an affiliate link portal. Even the fact it has a 9.7, that's a ridiculous score for a cheap projector

Here's a YouTuber that's I've been watching for a while comparing a bunch of projectors under $100, most of them don't seem to be available over here, or at least the higher rated ones, but the yaber is one of them. It performs middle of the pack in all his tests (except brightness uniformity, where it's one of the worst)

From the video I got the impression that's it's probably fine/decent, but don't be expecting anything too amazing!

Thats just an affiliate scrubber website, not remotely reliable.

Cheers, just bought this, how do you get the likes of Netflix and YouTube onto it?

    Nice.

Seeing that I ordered one yesterday as a pressy, I am going to let bias takeover in my scoring from your video review.

"Hi Hun, this is in the top 50% of projectors".

Interesting, so I read a lot of the reviews and I can see a good few that could be fake, however there are also a decent number of what seem genuinely good reviews. Also negative reviews wouldn't put me off too much so all in all fakespot wouldn't stop me buying.

Bear in mind that the strip lights on the No Chat thread are Bluetooth only, as far as I know. I have some that are BT only, and others that hook into Google Home. Much better spending a few euro more for ones that connect to WiFi/Google Home/Alexa, and give you the ability to schedule on a timer, use voice commands etc.

Usually use a combination of amazon reviews and youtube videos myself. Had a look at this one before buying:

Depends on what you want it for I suppose. For £36 it is a bargain for me anyway. I'll be mainly casting IPTV from my android phone in a small living room.

I did notice last week that for a number of the top reviews with videos attached, the reviewers have reviewed other Yaber products also, all with 5 star reviews. Make of that what you will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,241 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

What I do is check the reviewers other reviews which is what I think Fakespot do.

When 3 Yaber products are reviewed with videos by the same person it would make you think.

Edit> If you think there are fake reviews just report them. I reported 7 ***** reviews for an item recently that were all from Vine reviews, there were not any other reviews. Next time I'd checked Amazon had suspended any new reviews. The only problem is that only affects new reviews and buyers still see the potentially fake reviews.

Okaaay. Sitting here at lunch time with nothing else to do so followed up some more the the Yaber reviews. Why would Jim buy 3 different Yaber mini projectors and give them all five star reviews?

That doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the projector just that the buyer must do there own research and not rely 100% on Amazon reviews.

Edit> Another quick and dirty review test is to click the box to write a review. If any of the reviews have been flagged by readers as possibly fake then you'll get a message

Amazon has noticed unusual reviewing activity on this product. Due to this activity, we have limited this product to verified purchase reviews.

    EUR17.18

Yes, exactly my point. 'Jim' is not the only one. There's a number of 5 star reviewers that give top reviews for other projectors from the same company or that have only that single review associated with their accounts. It's extremely common in Amazon nowadays. Their rating system hasn't been reliable for years as it's too easily manipulated by sellers. But that's probably a conversation for a different thread.

"Made in China" model being more expensive gave me a laugh.

I reported a seller selling copied dvds a couple of years back. They didn't do anything about it or acknowledge my email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,241 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

You now get an automatic acknowledgement and new reviews are blocked.

Seems to take them ages to sort out because there is one genuine item that I want to leave feedback for that is blocked for new reviews - thats been going on for at least 6 weeks. Nothing wrong with the product.

I have a few different sets of LED lights. I have to agree. Bluetooth only are a ok if you dont mind controlling with a separate mobile app. A few quid more will get a small remote. I prefer that. Much handier to have a small remote to instantly turn on / off / change colour. Ive never got wifi LEDs though. Must try those for my next set. Bluetooth 30m for £12 isnt bad for what they are which is a very basic set. Will do a childs room ceiling and skirting unless the room is massive...

Verified purchase reviews mean nothing. I've been approached twice by asian manufacturers on Amazon after buying one product with an offer to join their "review" program where I'm supposed to buy a product myself and they'll refund me the cost via paypal in return for a review and i get to keep the product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,241 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

I've been offered a refund if I change my review from one star to five. I just report it to Amazon.

There is definitely some manipulation going on. I recently submitted a review because a sales page showed 2 of the product and clearly showed "2PCS" in the product information. I only received 1 of the product. Submitted a 1 star review and it never appeared. Sales page hasnt changed either.

There are Amazon review companies out there where a seller can buy bulk reviews for their products.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,241 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

I suspect there is also some account hacking going on. After I left some scathing reviews of some chinese tat Amazon blocked me reviewing some items and I discovered that I had bought this book.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/MIND-YOUR-OWN-BUSINESS-Practice/dp/B09MYHKT1Q

I hadn't and had to get on to Amazon to cancel it.

In reality I found the "verified purchase" review to be the most fake ones going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,359 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

    This it it.

Working off reviews on Amazon is a fool's errand. They're horrifically manipulated and even Fakespot struggles to keep up. It can be difficult at times to even find some products with an overall bad review score.

If it wasn't for Amazon absolutely raking in money, they might actually do something about the litany of fake reviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭savemejebus

I always find it quite concerning when you find a product and all of the reviews on the first page are 4 and 5 star reviews with that green disclaimer about the person writing it having received it as a vine product for review.
