When building my house my plumber had me install a basic hotwater/heating controller that would do until I got something better next week. Well that was 12 years ago and now need to sort this.

What I have is a fairly standard multizone central heating system ( 3 zones ) and an external boiler. Stat in each zone. To have domestic hot water I just need to fire the boiler ( Button B ). To have heating in zone I need to fire the boiler AND hit button 1. And so on for the other zones. If I turn on Zone 1 without firing up the boiler I will get heat for approx 30 min till all the heat is stripped out of the water in the storage tank ( Maxipod system if that makes any difference ) To have a timed turn on I need to make sure boiler is also fired up along with specific zone, so in short 2 timers needed. Now I want to just have a system where by if I want to turn on heat in zone 1 I just click one button or set one timer. Also be useful to be able set things up via mobile app and control everything from my phone.

Can any one recommend such a system? Thanks

Can you take photos of your existing controller hardware.

Even better would be remove front panel so we can see how it's currently wired.

Sounds like Zone 1 and 2 are using circulation pump to push the existing HW around your radiators only & you need to use relay button to fire the boiler.

Does this also mean you are always heating water to the water tank when heating zoned radiators?

So image shows the wiring from behind the current controller unit. 4 Zones. Zone 1 controls the boiler, the other 3 zones are heating zones.

There are several on the market.

Nest, Hive & Heatmiser Neo are all popular choices.

Heatmiser Neo is reasonably priced and I have found to be good.

The Maxipod doesn’t materially change the position, presumably it has a thermostat to call the boiler when the store temperature drops below the set temperature. I would be inclined to keep the store heated all the time, and have your chosen thermostat/app system simply open the zone and bring on the pump when a given zone needs heat.

Do you have another heat source that also feeds into this Maxipod?

Yes, PV solar panels dump any excess juice into the MAxipod via heating coil and also back boiler in stove can keep it topped up.

Zone1 when active only calls the boiler if the Maxipod storage water temp is below its preset operating temp.

I use netatmo here and it includes a very good app and wireless thermostat, the install hardware has multiple possibilities for different wiring systems.
