Same, but for now, it’s more likely for say, Thai Airways, Singapore etc. to fly to DUB than Aer Lingus to fly to Bangkok or Singapore. It’s a shame but it’s unlikely for Aer Lingus to do it.

    Just to highlight the point,

There is zero evidence or rumour to support the notion of EI starting DUB-DOH in collaboration with QR.

This "source" was a new account who never responded to queries about it, and hasn't posted since.

    Thai airway to Dublin? 😂

Have a day off will ye

SQ to SIN would be a dream, just doubt there is enough demand to support 2/3 per week, not sure they’d bother with a one per week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭Touristx73

I’m not saying it’s likely, just that it’s more plausible than EI to BKK

Would be a dream, maybe in the long term but not for another few years at least I’d say.

Rarely contribute (unless I have something valuable to add or a genuine question) but like keeping in the loop and seeing updates in relation to EI news from people in the know. This chat like the Dublin new routes one has become painful to follow over the past few days

Some of the route speculation on this thread is indeed starting to resemble A-net and it's many teenage airline CEOs. No there is not a market from any random city in Asia or Africa to DUB. Some students or health care workers flying here doesn't form the basis for a profitable route (the airline term is yield).

AL competes well against a certain loco in Europe and the North American operators in that region. It's no where near the service level of the ME3/THY/quality Asian carriers who have a massive geographical advantage as well as lower costs. I've heard the rumors of AL supposedly doing some flying for EY or QR for 20 plus years. It is extremely unlikely, these carriers have a very strong brand image that they do not dilute.

A service to CPT or the Caribbean would be a delight to see but is likely to be seasonal, probably need block sales by travel agents and is not likely to be very profitable. Profit is what drives airlines not drawing up random routes that someone you know once flew. Would be airline executive Walts please take note.

This nonsense has already been dismissed by a mod a page or two back in a very convincing way.

Absolutely agree, its a pity as well as the information on these forums is usually very interesting but of late its a free for all!

Is -GEY AOG in YYZ ?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

    Looks likely.
    Operated DUB-YYZ on 24th Nov.
But then did YYZ-YYZ that evening.

    Different aircraft doing DUB-YYZ-DUB today

PLEASE, can certain people STOP dreaming and fantasising about fictitious routes into Ireland.
Apologies Moderator, but this once very interesting thread is being made look like a dream world for certain people.

Maybe a separate fantasy thread for all these ridiculous route suggestions can be created and the main offenders can orgasm about direct flights to Greenland, Burkina Faso and Eritrea there..not forgetting honeymoon packages direct to Beruit.

Yes, it went tech there on Sunday night - my wife was due to fly on it. She got home last night/this morning instead.

Just out of curiosity, why was GEY not fitted with a cabin crew rest area for West Coast ops?

Would it have not been feasible for EI to keep it, as it already has new seats fitted.

It's a -200, it has the range, it seems a waste for EI to deploy it on East Coast routes, and more specifically, on routes primarily to Chicago, Boston and Toronto.

I know the aircraft's lease is up for renewal soon from Castle Lake finance, but surely, IAG has the funds to acquire it outright.

It’s more than just installing the unit in the hold, there is work needed in the cabin in order to be able to access it including installing hatches in the floor and the removal of some seats and adding another unit to hide access to the rest area from pax. And that’s not even accounting for a rest area for the pilots. It just adds cost for a mod that the airline didn’t feel was really needed. There are currently 6 330’s with crew rest facilities and it’s plenty for EI’s operation (only west coast destinations require a crew rest. This includes DEN and LAS)

would EI not swap BDL and CLE for more popular destinations for Irish markets like MSY or IAH

Having read the last few pages of this thread, I can only imagine this has to be a troll post.

This is like fantasy football for airlines. Enjoyable to read but ultimately futile for what is a serious thread

The access point for the A330 underfloor CC rest pod can only be installed at aircraft manufacture, it cannot be retrofitted. The flight crew pod can be retrofitted instead of a lav at R1. EI were not the original operator of GEY, QR were and didn’t use their A330s on routes requiring crew rest, that’s what the 340s and 777s were for at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭Touristx73

Because those destinations are performing well. They wouldn’t do IAH because United would run them off that route. MSY is not a large market.

    Ah. Now that's good solid [fleet/frame] information I didn't know but always suspected...what a treat. Thanks 👍

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,072 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

    Retrofitting is possible.
LAX and DAA didnt orginally have the underfloor crew pod. (DUO arrived after I stopped flying so I cant recall what it was like on delivery)

But its going to take time and money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭HTCOne

My understanding is the pod can be retrofitted but the access (I.e. the stairs roughly between L3 and R3 can't), you need to spec it at manufacture. The rest area itself is a cargo pod that can be removed.

Happy to be corrected if someone has better gen obviously.

FNG & FNH are de-rated HGW A330s so MIGHT have the access. Issue is you need to spec these things between 18 months and 2 years before delivery and as I recall IAG re-allocated these to EI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,993 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

It can be retrofitted, the stairs itself is in the pod and lines up with the opening in the floor. I couldn’t tell you how much work is involved in doing it but it’s certainly possible.

Neither FNG or FNH have a crew rest installed. I couldn’t tell you if the hatches are already there under the carpet for future instillation tho. If anyone is on one in the near future you’ll see the seam for escape hatch in the carpet by the lav at 3R, report back to us😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,200 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Well yeah if you can retrofit a cargo door to a passenger plane, you can do this. Question is, as always, does the benefit justify the expense.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Do EI still use a safety video on the aircraft fitted with IFEs?

Nope, when the new uniform was launched they intended to film a new one showing off new gear (and livery) then covid hit and they couldn’t make a video cause of restrictions etc, & they’ve not bothered since for whatever reason.
