This is going very differently from what I expected. Leinster very much on top and 17-7 at the half.

    Harry Byrne has been awful

non stop handling errors from Munster, so frustrating to watch.

    Lineout and scrum not happening.l

    adios Kyriacou

Really impressed by Usanov. Has kicked on since last seasons U20 Six Nations. Looked very good for Emerging Ireland as well.

Whomever had the idea to convert him from the back row to a loose head deserves as raise.

    how was he scrummaging (Usanov)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Very well I thought. Seemed to have the upper hand on Foxe in particular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 369 ✭✭conquestscarer

Excellent. Probably the best part of his performance.

whilst he was getting alot of success in the scrum, a better ref would have identified he was scrummaging illegally and despite foxe communicating this to the referee and linesman, they seemed to let him away with it. but I suppose, you chance your arm to see what you can get away with.

was connacht - ulster streamed anywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭typhoony

Don't think so, also the match changed venues due to the weather

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

Then he needs to up the fines from training.

Thomas Ahern is usually dependable on all aspects but he was making silly mistakes as well. So using that as a baseline, there is a wholelot of upskilling needed all over the pitch.

Connacht absolutely minced Ulster, bit disappointing but unsurprising given the team selection. Hopefully it stands the young bucks in good stead further down the line

Really good result for a very young Leinster side. Didn’t get to see it, but believe Connor Fahy, Aitzol King and John McKee had good outings, along with Usanov as mentioned here.

    Anyone else stand out?

I would add McGuire and O'Tighernaigh to that, the former came on very early as Smyth was injured. He didn't get enough touches to make a huge impact, but I thought Reuben Moloney showed enough for me to pick him out as a prospect of note.

Munster were dreadful I thought, looked heavy legged to a man. If I wasn't already familiar with their players I don't think I'd be able to pick any out as a prospect based on that.

Thought both starting scrum halves were very poor, given their relative experience. Patterson does have the excuse of a torrid recent injury record, I'm sure he'll improve with time.

Edit: would also note that Mahon, Corrigan, and Aaron O'Brien were all very physical in the latter stages, especially considering they're all u20. Hadn't heard much of O'Brien previously but he seems to have a bit about him.

Ruben Moloney was good and won't be far off getting URC games this season. I noticed Niall Smyth had to go off with a shoulder injury, hope that doesn't put him out of the u20 6 nations. If there's any damage they can take a few months to fully recover.

Corrigan looks like he would be a great 6 at pro level. Has great size and is very aggressive in the tackle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Agreed, his pre contact footwork is very good too.

O'Tigheraigh was good. He's developing nicely. Big oul lump too.Spicers improved a bit too. Overall, it was a slopfest. Munster were so poor.

Halftime in Nenagh, Munster lead 36-14, Ulster have the wind in the second half but they need to reduce their errors, gifting scores to Munster.

Munster's fifth try was Ulster not dealing with a bouncing ball from a cross field kick, Liam Coombes stepped around the the defender and scored

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,200 ✭✭✭✭phog

    Munster win 50-33

Ulster looked better in the second half, punishing Munster from penalties conceded

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭sleepyman

Who would be the players people think can step up for Munster-Edogbo Junior and O’Connor,Gene O Leary Kareem,Sheehan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,038 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

O'Leary-Kareem looks a good prospect, but he needs some serious conditioning work. Was blown away in contact a few times last weekend again at Leinster A.

Munster playing leinster in nenagh on the 27th. Ideal for anyone travelling down m7 for game in thomond that evening.

Lots of rumours the Connacht Leinster game on Saturday will have to be postponed / rearranged. Think the combination of how stretched the senior squad is with the mandatory resting of the internationals alongside an Irish U20s warm up game around a similar time frame means they are incredibly short on available players.
