Other than a pistol as you have to maintain your membership of a pistol range.

Logically, since we need a "good reason" to licence firearms here and your good reason is no longer valid, ie you got a shotgun to go hunting but you never go hunting, then that would be cause to not renew the licence.

I've not heard of someone's licence being revoked through lack of use, though I have heard of people being asked to provide their range attendance for target shooting guns to prove they are actually using them as intended.

I do know one guy who needed surgery for a condition which left him unable to use his firearm for about a year, and between that, pain beforehand making shooting unenjoyable and physio afterwards working back up to using his firearm his renewal came up.

Questions were asked about his lack of usage and he explained and was, somewhat understandingly, told that his reasons were valid and his renewal would be granted, which it then was.

Not saying this would be everyone's experience or even the average experience but credit where it is due AGS in his district were decent about it.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

S.I. No. 187/1972 - Firearms (Temporary Custody) Order - Firearms seized

S.I. No. 21/2008 - Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 - Firearm types restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 - 2023 Firearm Ban (retroactive to 8 years prior)

Yes, (by the thousand cuts method).

I know people who have had their ammo limits cut from 500 to 50, because life and the economy happened, and they could not justify the higher limit, and so causing more economic hardship (buy less, pay more)

For target shooting, range attendance is checked, periodically, usually to try to trip you up, even though there is no specified attendance criteria, or by adding conditions like leaving half your firearm at the range (even if your next visit is to a different range)

For hunting, harder to do, but things like looking for DOB's of landowners or adding conditions like having to notify the station every time you intend to go out, or making you licence your sights, etc, are used)

Mostly alot of bull, but when allowed to happen and not fought, it creeps in little by little and makes it harder on everyone.

Give them an inch and they take many miles.

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.
