'Slaps in Gaza' very revelatory of your thinking.

The Govt position to not want for a cessation of weapons to Russia is a worry tbh. With involvement of NK, Iran etc in the conflict, it's a big influence on Russia being able to maintain the war.

Irelands future prosperity is hugely linked to international, and especially European, affairs. Any political party who isn't aware of that should be let anywhere the wheels of government.

No, that is exactly what Sinn Féin have written down in their manifesto. Stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

Maybe you can define what is hyperbolic about it using words rather than turning tail and running.

Do you support the supply of weapons to Ukraine?

Do you still support Sinn Féin based on that answer?

This has outed you as an utter hypocrite undeserving of your avatar, you display it in mockery now.

So, like Sinn Fein, you are happy that the colonial aggressor Russia gets to keep the territory that it has conquered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

The first half of your post is absolute nonsense.

The second half of your post is clearly anti-Sinn Fein, which is a complete about-turn for you.

Stop lying Blanch, seriously. This is what Matt Carthy said on the war in Ukraine yesterday.

"Sinn Féin unequivocally stands against the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine and has repeatedly demanded that Russia ends its war against the Ukrainian people.

In government, Sinn Féin will advocate for a full Russian withdrawal from Ukraine, and we will fully support efforts to deliver humanitarian and practical assistance to the Ukrainian people, as well as supporting sanctions against Russia. However, an escalation of this conflict is in nobody's interest and we are facing a very dangerous situation.

As a neutral state and as a people who have first-hand experience of conflict and peace-making we believe that Ireland is best placed to act as a voice for dialogue and an end to conflicts, whether they be in Ukraine, Palestine or elsewhere,"

Ans the current government who have provided no military supprt to Ukraine sound like who exactly?

Remind us all what we did offer to assist with instead because otherwise it looks like you're deliberately trying to undermine the Irish assistance

We offered no military support to Ukraine. That's the bit I find confusing. On one hand the current government, allegedly, are so eager for Ukraine to win the war and drive Russia out that they've decided to provide absolute no military support at all.

I find it definitely to connect those dots tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

We haven't blocked military support to Ukraine, Sinn Fein is calling for that to happen.

They have also called for the non-renewal of the EU Directive to support Ukrainian refugees, in effect, wanting to force them back to a war-torn country.

All of this is to help their friend Putin in Moscow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

Again, you've repeatedly made things up. Stop blanch, it's embarrassing. The current government have no interest in Ukraine winning the current war. You do accept that?

As for forcing Ukrainian refugees back to Ukraine. I assume that's why the current government have repeatedly slash benefits for Ukraine?

There is clear distance between the Government position and the Sinn Fein position.

Sinn Fein want to nobble Ukraine so they can't defeat Russia, the government are not behaving like that.

Pretending that the two positions are the same is more than disingenuous, it is a lie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

The position of the current government is absolutely clear. It's clear they have no interesting in helping Ukraine win this war and have no provided Ukraine with any military supprt and will never provide Ukraine with any military supprt.

The current government support Ukraine as much as we can within the confines of our neutrality and has not called for the disarming of Ukraine like Sinn Féin has.

Sinn Féin want Ukraine to be unarmed allowing russia to roll in and commit numerous atrocities. They previously leaned russia, deleted it and are doing it again.

You supporting Sinn Féin condones a country like russia or israel rolling in and committing atrocities, own it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

I don't know why you insist on making things up, but fair enough.

The current government has provided no military support for Ukraine and has never shown any interesting in providing military supprt for Ukraine. It's seems Harris and Martin are hoping Ukraine will win the war by throwing stones at Russian troops. Im no expert in military tactics, but that is unlikely to prove successful I'd say.

As for Israel/Palestine, if the government care so much about Palestine or Lebanon, why haven't they been championing military supprt for Palestine or Lebanon like they have with Ukraine?

You keep repeating this and it is completely and utterly incorrect.

Ireland committed at the outset of the Russian invasion in 2022 to not affect our neutrality and would not supply lethal military aid to assist Ukraine.
However, we did pledge to provide non-lethal military aid to Ukraine. This is even supported by Ukraine themselves who refer to our aid compromising of financial aid along with training, mine clearing equipment, cyber security assistance, etc.

    18. In 2022 and 2023 Ireland committed €122 million in non-lethal military support to Ukraine. In 2024 Ireland has committed a further €128 million in non-lethal military support to Ukraine.

Agreement on Support for Ukraine and Cooperation between Ukraine and Ireland

It is completely and extremely disingenuous of you to try and make it look like we've not povided military aid to Ukraine. We just haven't provided munitions but then you wouldn't get the anti-governemnt dig they you've been aching to get.

Ireland being a neutral country will not provide military support.

Do you support an end to Irish neutrality? Should Ireland call for the unilateral disarming of Ukraine and Palestine?

Sinn Féin are the party who are championing russia and putin with a long history of doing so putting their supporters in a tricky situation regards Palestine as it effectively sides Sinn Féin with Israel and makes their support also that of Netanyahu.

Are SF followers able to live with themselves supporting a party that is also now supporting putin's goals?

Do you want Ireland to offer military support to Ukraine?

I always thought you were against that, as was all parties of the left.

Before this campaign I merely disagreed with Sinn Féin on a lot of things (and agreed on the odd thing too) but some of the daft policies they're coming out with in this campaign are making me genuinely scared of having them in government.

This Ukraine thing reminds me of the populists in Europe like Fico, the AFD and Le Pen's party in France. Obviously Sinn Féin is not nearly as bad as any of them but it's a step in that direction.

I would have thought enabling an imperialist Russia like that would be against all of Sinn Féin's stated values.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

Oh so rather than throwing stones, Ukraine will defeat Russia by hacking them. How's that going? "Oh you're in a war? Here's some none lethal aid to help you." Utterly pointless. Why aren't the current government taking their commitments to Ukraine winning seriously?

So why is Ireland, being a neutral country, pushing for war in Ukraine? Do the Irish government expect Ukraine to win the war by throwing ani mine equipment at them? "We are neutral, but we completely support everyone else going to war." It's an embarrassing cop out.

I absolutely supprt an end to war and Ireland to maintain its neutral stance. That's why I am completely against America and UK supplying weapons to Israel to carry out genocide. The reality is, taking a position then that it's a positive to give other countries weapons doesn't fit with Ireland being neutral.

SF, recognising that Ireland is neutral, called for peace in all regions and have very clearly stated that all sides not be increasing the use of arms in the war. I fully support an referendum and discussion on irelands neutrality though. Taking about us being neutral while we facilitate the delivery of weapons to other countries and actively supprt the use of weapons is not being neutral.

Again, I don't know why you keep making things up about SFs position. Sf have condemned Putin and Russia for their invasion and they've called for them to give back all territory ceased during the war.

I'd say so. Supprting a party that isn't promoting and encouraging war and further bloodshed isn't exactly an outrageously difficult thing to do. It actually seems very common sense thing to do.

Take the latest developments, the notion that allowing Ukraine fire missiles into Russia is going to help them win the war is crazy. My own opinion is that the Western nations like US, EU and UK have truly shafted the Ukrainian people and have done for a decade now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

NO, of course not. We're meant to be a neutral country. But the current government clearly claim to be very pro war, yet are not willing to do anything about it or go to voters and ask the question. They seem very weak and scared on the issue tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 17,923 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

Sorry, you're dancing on the head of a pin.

The current Irish government is supporting Ukraine as they defend themselves against a russian aggressor.

Sinn Féin want to undo that by putting pressure on countries to stop supplying the means for Ukraine to defend themselves against an aggressor.

I absolutely supprt an end to war and Ireland to maintain its neutral stance. That's why I am completely against America and UK supplying weapons to Israel to carry out genocide. The reality is, taking a position then that it's a positive to give other countries weapons doesn't fit with Ireland being neutral.

By supporting Sinn Féin, you also support the unilateral ending of support for Palestine and any resistance by their fighters. You are trying to wash your hands of what Israel/russia do in those circumstances (genocide as you call out multiple times), but you know what it will enable and implicitly support it. It is a morally bankrupt stance that you have and utterly undermines your stance and credibility on these issues.

You really are showing a total lack of knowledge on the topic

By supporting SF you are now supporting Russia to attack the Ukraine and keep on killing people in the Ukraine

Best of luck with that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,504 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

SF are effectively supporting the partition of Ukraine with this nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Augme

The current government have no effort to supprt Ukraine in winning the war. They've made clear they will make no effort to ensure Ukraine can win the war. Ukraine aren't going to win this war with cyber security training.

Sf have been clear, increasing arms supplies and weapons to Russia and Ukraine is not going to be the catalyst for a ceasefire. Anyone who claims that giving more weapons to both countries is going to lead to a ceasefire and peace, is deluded.

SF have been the most vocal supporters of Palestine, much more so than FG and FF. They were active in calling for Israel to be brought before the ICC while FFG didn't want to get involved. They've repeatedly called on FFG to challenge Biden on his supprt for Israel and they've refused. FG have supported the relection of one of the most pro Israeli EU Commissioners during a time Israel was carrying out genocide.

FFG have repeatedly refused to tackle the serious issues that would allow peace in Palestine. Their delay and stalling on the occupied terroritories Bill while 40,000+ women and children were being wiped out by genocide was an utter disgrace.

Don't worry, the Ukrainians can throw the landmine detecting equipment supplied by the current Irish government and that will ensure victory for Ukraine and it's people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,110 ✭✭✭MFPM

Ukraine aren't defeating Russia, no one believes that even the idiots at the top of NATO. Russia will not win either.
