    I used them a couple of times for previous cars as I used to live down the road from there. First time they didn't balance the tyres and I had to go back to them to get this done. Second time I ordered tyres online to be delivered to and fitted there, they weren't happy about this at all (despite the fact they were listed as a fitting partner on this site) but did fit them for me begrudgingly.

    I currently spend 500 a month on petrol (4,000km) travelling from west Waterford to portlaoise 3 days a week + a bit of weekend driving. The model y offer would cut that bill to zero as I pass ballacolla. Tempting!

    Was there a fair use policy in the past for free suc?

    No fair use, it's unlimited, after the first few years they took commerical vehicles off the SuC but those that were already there were not impacted, there are taxis in the UK on 2016 plates getting free SuC still.

    Just be aware Ballacolla is an older location so 130kW max charging speed, still plenty fast but will be a limiting factor especially if someone is in the paired stall as SuC speeds are shared e.g. 1a and 1b share

    Be careful. some of the free supercharging recent offers have been based on a number of kWh as opposed to the actual time period.

    T&C of this offer are posted on Tesla site …only restrictions are to exclude commercial usage, taxis etc. and offer extends for one year after date of delivery but excludes any transferability. It stays with VIN and first owner.

    I’m considering making the move across to a Model Y from a Tucson Hybrid. I’m currently averaging around 7.1l/100km.
    My concern is I do quite a bit of driving throughout the year, mainly Dublin - Belfast/Cork/ Tipperary down and back the same day.
    What is the real world mileage for a model y? I’m aware that this comes down to driving style/ use of heating/AC etc but just a rough average would be great

    Tesla is drawing me in with the superchargers on the routes that I will be travelling, do you reckon it would be a quick top up each way? Also does anyone have any idea of the cost for the superchargers.

    LR RWD or LR AWD?

    The LR RWD hasn't been delivered to Ireland yet, so no-one will be able to give you the real world range for that, it will be slightly better than the AWD though. The AWD gives us 350 (winter) - 450km (summer) range at a 50/50 split 120/100. If that was all motorway, it would probably be 300-400. Although some Tesla SuCs are open to other brands, they remain the best (and cheapest for Teslas) charging option, 46/50c off-peak/peak per kWh.

    In the LR RWD you'll do Tip return all year round without needing an en-route charge, Belfast 8 months of the year, but you'll need a 15 minute charge on the Cork trip. (Don't try Mahon point in Cork, it's jammed)

    I do Dublin to Limerick/Cork/Belfast about once a month each. I can't make any of them without a charge in either of my non Tesla EVs and I also did Dublin to Limerick in a workmates model Y which didn't make it either! It came a bit closer than either of mine though. You might do the Tipperary return depending on which part of tipp.

    In warm weather you could probably make it work if you really didn't want to stop for a 10 to 20 minute charge or so but you'd be watching range the whole time, I just drive normally at 120kmph and stop on the way back, it's honestly not a hassle when you have it figured out.

    Superchargers are great but I wouldn't let it sway my decision if there was another car I preferred.

    I do Meath to Limerick pretty regularly, get to birdhill with around 40% left in a standard range Model Y. Average around 17.5-18 kwh/100km for that sort of round trip at speed limit (or slightly above).

    Meath to Mahon Point is no problem either, have done that a few times in winter etc...

    Climate always in Auto. All those routes are well covered and you'd have zero issues.

    I assume your work Y that you tried the return Limerick trip in was a LR? Looking at the MY pricing and relative ranges, I think it's much more difficult to make the case for the LR AWD over the LR RWD now. Up to now at least purchasers had the "need the range" excuse to hide behind if wanting the dual motor LR.

    Has the LR RWD M3 been sold in Ireland yet? That must be capable of Cork-Dublin-Cork without charging most of the year at the speed limit?

    Pretty sure the Y LR RWD was sold around this time last year along with the M3 version. No LR RWD Highland Model 3 sold yet

    Thank you so much for the replies.
    I’m usually under a bit more pressure heading to these places but I’m sure if change my routine to give myself and extra bit of time it would work for me. I’ve no issue with stopping for a quick break to top up the charge as I would usually stop anyway to grab a coffee or use the bathroom etc so an extra few minutes wouldn’t bother me.

    I want to be able to enjoy driving it so plan on going the speed limit & using the climate. 😂


    Heading for a test drive tomorrow so fingers crossed I actually like driving it!

    Assuming you are talking about the AWD LR, my real world driving use. I don't preheat, i drive it like a normal car, hop in and drive.

    Dublin to Kilkenny trip for me is 129km door to door. It uses about 32% of the battery doing that trip at the speed limit at least with all mod cons on and not trying to be efficient. It usually averages about 16 kwh/100km on that trip but in the colder weather, about 17kwh/100km.

    MY with Acceleration Boost and 20" wheels.

    If you have the standard 19" wheels, it should be a little bit more efficient.

    So in theory that puts the motorway range at motorway speed limits at about 400km plus.

    That figure will jump higher if you stick to the posted limits and significantly higher if you drop to 110km/h on the days when your running tight. It might be the difference between having to stop or not!

    40km of that to Naas is 100km/h. Do you manage to keep it at 130 for that also and not get points 🙂 ?

    Speed limit as per my original post.

    I even allowed for variations in the 400km motorway range by using an average efficiency figure of 19 kwh/100km which is high, in reality its 400km plus at motorway speed limits.
