better be quick he’s off the week after next - probably arranging stuff for the big move

    He got the Norwich gig?

    They must have sacked Pat.

I was sent a link this morning by a mischievous associate to the Easons instagram page, my word the social media team at Eason must be an especially lazy and unimaginative bunch - it’s essentially a compendium of Tubridy posts, with a few other Noel Kelly clients wares getting mention too. So much material to work with and this is the best they can do?

I don’t recommend visiting that page on an empty stomach.

When people complain that he never paid back the €150,000 how do they know he didn't

Still don't listen to him but sometimes Q102 is still on in the morning after the night before so I switch it straight away

Even before that though he circumvented a pay cut via the Barter acc topup which ultimately showed he had zero loyalty to his colleagues.

You can guarantee he would have shouted it from the rooftops had he paid the money back.

    Mod Note

Can we take the RTE money/funding issues to Current Affairs or a thread related to PAC

Kevin Bakhurst said he had not returned the money, when last publicly asked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,279 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Not arguing with a mod, but in fairness he not paying back what he owes is an important part of his future career and other soulful pursuits which is the title of the thread.

I don't see any harm in allowing some overlap between the two topics.

Honestly wonder if this thread should have remained closed just for my sanity, hate listening has now turned to hate reading :)

    London's Diary just published: -

On Trump he says "Regardless of your politics, he’s back. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride."

On Harris (the one he got to interview) he says "It’s one thing having a November election but I was worried it was going to clash with the Toy Show which has been broadcast on the last Friday of November for nearly 20 years."

On Shackleton: "a stunning film that follows the story of the Kildare man’s expedition"

and the Tom Crean Brewery: "I’ve had the pleasure of sitting at their bar with them and, like the product they produce on site, they are delightful and refreshing!"

Over on You Tube, that initial viewing of Harris (not the one that lost to Trump) its flat-lined, I though it might continue to grow with the GE but sure when you up against The Toy Show!

Isn't the figure in question the start of the thread title?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,901 ✭✭✭yagan

On the YouTube thing I can see how it's flat lined as it's the live feeds on TV and radio that people will watch in a three week election window.

His videos don't actually create new content, like saw an engineering or niche YouTube channel that gets into a subject. Celebrity watchers will be mostly using social media rather than YouTube, and he doesn't do social media.

Vogue Williams on the Christmas special Strictly Come Dancing. She’s getting more famous that that bloke she occasionally stands in for. What’s his name again? He’s never on the tv these days….

Tubridy’s Biden error went unmentioned and uncorrected in yesterday’s London Diary, which should really be renamed “Look at the famous people who met me this week”. It’s somewhat bizarre the former most trusted man in Ireland didn’t fact check his post or amend his error considering he likes to talk about how much he knows about American Politics and how much of a political nerd he is. I guess he’s not the most trusted man in Ireland when it comes to American Politics anyway, and other things.

They still haven’t amended the error more than a week after publication. This really is senior hurling.

Yesterday’s column was humblebragging par excellence, as Tubridy name dropped like it was going out of fashion. I’d recommend preparing yourself for some serious eye-rolling before reading it.

Seems that his latest podcast episode got 999 views since last Tuesday. A long way from when he was presenting the LLS and when each show had hundreds of thousands of viewers.

The Journal was promoting it (and other politician interviews in podcasts) over the weekend. So the numbers would have gotten a boost in the last day or two.

I read it but I was SMH too much to type on the keyboard to post about it.

Tubridy gets a mention though not a link. He's not really an influencer. The Harris episode doesn't appear to be listed on the NKM podcasts page. A podcast interview with an influencer during a GE may help a politician if it reaches a large audience that would otherwise be difficult to reach. It still comes down to the numbers and Tubridy's podcast simply doesn't have them.

I didn't notice that, I wonder if he read over his own work, a glaring mistake for someone interested in politics.

Also he was at a table with 10 people and women were all for Harris while the men were for Trump… but the men hoped for Harris.

Tubridy doesn't have the ability to be a journalist who can write an article in one go for immediate publication (it requires skill and subject knowledge). There was a famous supermodel who, when launching her autobiography, was asked if she had read it. Even ChatGPT wouldn't have made that Biden mistake.

Tubridy was very lucky during his Full Irish 2fm breakfast show days in 02=05, that he was free to play Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and The Beatles whenever he wanted to, presenters on such shows nowadays would never get such freedom.

he could still do it on Lyric if he replaced Marty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭Shan Doras

Yeah, could definitely see Lyric as a window for him to get back into RTE in the future .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,957 ✭✭✭GSF

He probably thinks Beethoven was a dog but he’d have 10 minutes to read the sleeve notes and he wouldn’t crash the vocal on Lyric

Tuned in to his show this morning for probably the 3rd time ever… Hear Vogue was filling in for him… was just wondering is it always someone Irish who fills in for him while he’s off? I’m guessing the Irish audience Q102 captured may not like hearing English voice on the radio as it would sound foreign, so perhaps it was agreed that it would always be an Irish person to satisfy this audience?

Was it Tubridy or Alan Partridge who thought that Wolf Hall was about a family of wolves? :)

Seriously though, most of the presenters on Lyric have a good knowledge of their genre. Marty Whelan is a far better broadcaster than Tubridy and has the banter stuff down to a fine art. Tubridy isn't a Classical presenter. He's also not as good as John Kelly on the Arts. A book reviews show with Tubridy might not be attractive to Lyric FM managment based on the numbers for his podcast. Replacing Marty Whelan with Tubridy would not be good because of the timeslot and the possible competition with RTE and Callan.
