Thomastown were the best thing since sliced bread a month ago now there an embarrassment to kk hurling kk is in a dark place etc 🤣

There’s no in between on here it’s either boom or bust

God forbid a team had a bad day probaly thomastowns worst performance in 18-24 months

Sometimes the other team are just better

Still an embarrassing result, wouldn't be so bad if they hit 20 wides and conceded a last minute goal but they were hammered.

Hard luck to piltown camogie, beaten by a point after extra time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 574 ✭✭✭Local_Chap

They really threw it away conceding the goal in last puck of play in normal time. Was always going to be hard to pick themselves up for extra time after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭hogans heroes

Piltown threw that away today in normal time

Today was a tough one for Thomastown but we will be back, hard to believe we were so flat but we were and we can have no complaints. Started well but once things went against us we hadn't the energy to fight back and Castletown played very well.

These players have given us some 2 years and this won't take away from anything they have achieved no matter what the same few clowns who put the boot into everyone on here say.

Absolutely on the ball there, some supporters on here love to see their rivals beaten when they’re representing Kilkenny through their club. The only positive from today is that the thomastown lads who are good enough to make the Kk senior panel can get going and integrated for the league campaign. Thomastown still achieved way more than they probably set out to at the start of the season.

I doubt anyone here was hoping thomastown would lose,I was hoping they would get to the All ireland and beat Ballygunner but what does it say about the state of club hurling here? OLG will have prob 10 players training with KK who were comfortably beaten by Ttown. This Westmeath outfit were bet by 25 points by Ballyhale just 2 years ago. It is an embarrassing result for KK hurling just like the u21s in 2015 and the minors this year.

Don't agree on the embarrassment but each to their own, it can be a one off and teams get turned over. We were beaten fair and square and even if shamrocks hammered them that was 2 years ago so is irrelevant.

We are far from embarassed after beating Ballyhale, Mullinavat and O Loughlins to win our first county final in 78 years. The clubs have been doing very well in the club championships and some lads are enjoying a bad period in Kilkenny hurling and constantly trying to add fuel to the fire. If Kilkenny were to win an all ireland at this stage lads wouldn't be happy and say we should be winning by more.

Think Thomastown were 1/9 with Boyle’s. Were they missing anyone ?

Just Rory Connellan, hard to make sense of it, no excuses better team won. These things happen and we move on.

Mullingar can always be a potential banana skin.

I know a few of ye don’t want to hear it but the Boro had a good win today with Harry Shine being motm and Timmy Clifford a close second. Boro also in the roinn C final against Tullaroan which might cause fixture problems with elegebility for some players.

Kilkenny have dominated All three grades of the Leinster and All Ireland club championships more than any other county over the past half dozen years or so. Today doesn't define anything. Well done to Castletowngeoghegan , well deserving winners. Thomastown had a no show and tough on them . They will still be amongst the favourites in KK next year. Hard to see Ballygunner stopped . They gave another exhibition today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭kilkenny34

Ballygunner surely will win the All Ireland now,on paper they are well ahead of the rest and they need another All Ireland with all the Waterford and Munster dominance. There's an All Ireland in Kilcormac in the not too distant future I would think too.

Fair play to ctg today. Great boost for westmeath hurling. I'd say they were fairly confident playing against a non traditional team from kilkenny. If it was ballyhale or loughlins they would be nearly beat before they togged off. Plenty intercounty experience in their team, o brien, Clarke Young O'Reilly looks a great talent too.

Think na fianna look the strongest team left in leinster now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭usernamethatsnotinuse

they were a point up when they got the red card just after half time. Weren’t playing too well at the time but that was the end of it. Started giving away stupid frees and leaving players free everywhere. Would have done well to win it with 15 the way they were playing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 411 ✭✭Krazy gang

I think everyone here was delighted thomastown won the co final in fairness but local rivalry is so part of the gaa that people will take satisfaction in yesterday's result, especially when it's an underdog story like castletown geoghegan. This thing of the whole county is behind club x or y that kclr push is nonsense anyway. You're not going to suddenly start supporting clubs that you dislike for the rest of the year because they're representing kilkenny.

ttown have had an unbelievable 15/16 months so fair play, they will be disappointed it ended like that yesterday..

its important our towns produce more players for the county in my view, i include the city teams and the larger towns like ttown, callan, comer in this

in fairness OLG have produced a fair number the last few years

not jumping on the anti boro bandwagon but its a worry that two of their strong 4 in a row minors have been in and let go from kk already by age 21

village are a funny one, relegated but they probably have more coming than any time since the early 90s

    ttown rising to it now

comer coming strong underage and producing forwards for the first time in a few years

callan coming too at underage but a long way to go from junior to get through the grades, hard produce county players in junior unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭barneygumble99

I wouldn’t expect anyone to actually support their rivals publicly but when a team is beaten and you say ‘as for thomastown lol’ , I don’t think that’s right. Just my opinion.

Hard luck to Thomastown yesterday. Disappointing way for their year to end but the Leinster Championship in a different ball game and the likes of Castletown, St Mullins, Naas, Kilcormac are all regulars in this competition and this experience counts. Thomastown no doubt a better hurling team but fell flat on the day and were beaten by a hungrier and well drilled Castletown. Credit to them and they should take great confidence from this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 411 ✭✭Krazy gang

Ah that was just a joke no malice at all. No one more delighted than me to see them winning the co final. They have had a great 18 months.

Westmeath teams have put in some great performances against kk teams in mullingar, u21 victory in 2016, yesterday and also westmeath seniors put in a good performance in the round Robin 2/3 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 411 ✭✭Krazy gang

They'll have every chance against kilcormac who are without cillian kiely and ter guinan and would prefer summer ground than current conditions.

It is disappointing to see Thomastown getting hammered by the Westmeath Championships. They were without doubt worthy champions of Kilkenny. The fear factor of Kilkenny hurling is slowing slipping, Na Fianna were much the better team v OLG last year, but threw it away, the same the year before with Kilmacud Crokes and Ballyhale.

Can we use this as a barometer of the current standard in Kilkenny i am not sure, i watched back the match. C/G has 3/4 absolutely outstanding forwards with real pace and quality hurling and looked much the better team
