Lyng was on the Kilkenny Under 19 team this year and Marty Murphy is under 20 in 2025 so a relatively young team

I don’t think they are running an U19 KK team this year which is a pity because it would keep players interested and developing as well. Mark Alyward is finished with them. Does anyone have anymore info on this.

I think the problem here is that it was Kilkenny who organised the U19 tournament last year and there doesn't seem to be any appetite from Leinster or the GAA to put any competition in place for this, I'd imagine if it isn't going ahead in 2025 it's because they are struggling to get other counties to commit.

There are at least 4 other clubs in KK who have amalgamated this year (for different age groups) to try field a team underage, so definitely not "every other club is on their own".

Galmoy have about 2 players up to the age u18 this year, so if not for using amalgamations, would you rather those players just arent allowed to take part in competitions?

Big difference in a short term thing like fenians / ballyragget I think at u14 compared to galmoy windgap arrangement which is going on nearly 20 years. If anything it means weaker players from those clubs will give up the sport because their place is taken by a player from a different club. The galmoy windgap lineup yesterday would beat most of the teams in roinn A.

I don’t think you understand necessity. They are all making do to get young lads games. Without it, they can’t field a team.
That arrangement js ongoing 20 years as you say. In those 20 years I would say they have never had a squad bigger than 21/22 togged out, it’s not like they have 40 togged and could easily make 2 teams.
They have also won about 3 medals in those 20 years, so not as if they are dominating any grades. Strange thing to take issue with.

Yeah that is ok to u18 level. Why the need u21 to amalgamate ? Should both clubs not be trying to develop there own adult team from u21. They have 5/6 years to pick 18/19 hurlers each

Most country clubs barely have one minor one u14 and one u16 team never mind 2 of each team coming up there’s a massive drop off of players after minor level

Country clubs have maybe 17-20 players on a panel for minor not all those players are still hurling by u20 you d be lucky to have 10 out of thoose 17-20 players

It’s not like town teams with 3 minor 3 u16 and 3 u14 teams with a heap of players still hurling up to minor u20 level

It’s not as easy to just pick 18-19 hurlers 5-6 years out when you don’t have them by u20 level

Windgap had 5 or 6 u21s playing in the junior final. Galmoy have the 2 drennans, Lonergan and Sherman who have all represented kilkenny. I'd have less an issue if they were in roinn A. They'd definitely beat or hold their own with all the teams bar dicksboro and James stephens.

Most country clubs don't have big squads underage and have to play 17 years old at u21 etc. They make do with what they have.

just told that KK U19’s have a management setup

    Matthew Ruth ,manager

    Davy Ryan , selectors

    David Hennessy

    James Gittens

Two Boro men, and two village men.

Some people will be delighted with that.

Pity Tullogher didn't show some ambition with this team and stay in Roinn A at U21 and try and win it. Looking at results it doesn't seem to be competitive as James Stephens and Boro look well ahead of the rest. You'd have to wonder what the Co.Board do be looking at when it comes to grading.

When is the last time OLG won an Under Roinn A fixture. How are they in A ?

100% agree on Windgap / Galmoy

    should be in Rionn A

a huge blow to the Dublin hurlers with Eoghan O’ Donnell opting to play football next year.

I heard this morning that the new backroom set up should be announced next week, 2 new selectors, 2 new hurling coached and a new S&C coach. Obviously it's been widely reported that Noel Doherty and Declan Wall are 2 of the names, not sure if they fall into the category of new selectors or coaches. John Murphy is the name mentioned here that is going in as S&C coach, has anyone else heard any names? Tommy Walsh was heavily linked last month is he one of the new selectors?

Also, heard this also but not sure if it's true but Wally is rumoured to be retiring and Timmy Clifford rumoured to have been dropped from the panel.

Yes i heard some of the older players were literally told to move on. It was met with resistance but i have not heard anything on this last 2/3 weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

Yeah I had heard that too, they were encouraged to retire but wanted to stay and fight for their place, think it would be a bad look for management if they stayed after being encouraged to go. Think Timmy Clifford is a little unlucky, no doubt his best position is half back but never got a chance there.

Wallys wife just had a child so it would be perfect timing for him to retire.

I'd be 99.9999% sure that Tommy won't join the setup if he did it would only be as a coach and not a selector. From a chat I had with him during the club campaign he'd be allergic to management but really enjoyed coaching and being on the pitch with the lads.

John Murphy was in there this year as an assistant to Micky Comerford. He's supposed to be good. I'm glad there's going to be hurling coaches hopefully they will get to take the sessions and give us a clear base of a structure to how we'd like to play and to help upskill the younger players.

Wally has been a great servant but he should really be stepping aside at this point along with a few others most have been mentioned before. I don't think they should be given the option to fight for their place, if they won't leave you do like Cahill did to Barrett you announce their dropped from the panel. I'm sure those players don't want to go out like that and Derek likely doesn't want to do it but he needs to show strength at this point.

Yeah from what I've heard Timmy is dropped along with a few others including Darragh Corcoran, Liam and Kevin Blanchfield and Conor Delaney. Some might have been dropped and some walked I'm not sure. The two that would surprise me most are Darragh Corcoran and Kevin Blanch. I know Kevin is a bit older but he has a massive engine and in a position that we're struggling in he could be a real option if he had a style of play that took advantage of his strengths. He was one of the midfield players of the club campaign for me anyway. I also think Darragh can feel very hard done by he's been very good for Ballyhale the last few years and much like Shane Murphy and Conor Delaney I don't think Darragh ever got a real fair crack of the whip, he's young so hopefully he gets another chance. Obviously as a Boro man I'd like to see Timmy in there but his form for the club this year wasn't as good as he can be. He's young yet and has plenty more time to get back in there, as he matures as a hurler. He's teak tough and fast, if he can sharpen up his touch he'd be real addition to the county.

A bit of news from down south that Ballyhale have got Henry back to take over the helm. I think it's a really good move for Henry and the club. Rumours of Jackie and Larks taking over the Village but no white smoke yet.

Would Jackie and Larks be going in under Cody ? or are they going against Cody who has put his name forward for 2025.

They surely couldn't keep him after getting relegated for the first time in about seventy years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭tbiggertycome

Every Village man I know has it that BC stood down as manager and isn't going again 🤷🏻‍♂️. It's your club though so I'll take your word for it
