Keith Treacy is an awful pain! Talks utter rubbish more akin to a talksport contributor

Well I wasn't even disagreeing with you if you read my original reply. I didn't listen because OTB just like every other media outlet is just full of tiresome, boring cliche's loaded with contradictions. I'm a passive football fan but never get the fawning over what whatever pundit says or thinks.

To be fair to Match of the Day, they at least try to break down every goal and the defensive mistakes. Most other shows are just looking for the social media clip which they can put up and get 10M views or just plain dull boring analysis.

Jonathan Wilson very good on Monday night otb football. Good insight proper analysis and interaction with the hosts. One of the OTB regulars it may be Keith Doyle who I inadvertently referred to by a different name earlier uses the words “in the building” about 10 times each show when alluding to someone being at a club. Hopefully they haven’t completely expelled the journalists from the show the likes of Martin Lipton and even Andy Mitten and there’s another journalist who covers United who is very good.

It’s Keith ‘in the building’ Treacy, not Doyle. Also featuring a lot on RTE and even Virgin Media. Hope for us all.

thanks for the clarification I’m totally mixed up by them all. Not sure if you noticed that “in the building’ stuff as well? They have a German and French journalist who appear sometimes too and are very good. Raphael and Philippe I think are their first names.

Yes, noticed the "in the building" last week. Had heard of "watch your house" but this was a new one. Still some good football contributors but Dan McDonnell a big loss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 868 ✭✭✭FazyLucker

Dan McDonnell is one of the few football pundits that I'd listen to to be honest. He's not full of cliche's and you can tell he is a journalist and football analyst and is capable of giving some in depth analysis while also being able to chase the story and find out what is going on. Andy Mitten, etc are the same even though I don't support anybody.

I hate the ex-pro pundit is what I'm saying I guess. Most are afraid to say anything bad about anybody because they are all pals and on the look out for the next gig on the circuit.

I feel a lot of the ex pro pundits say stuff because they need something to say as a pundit whereas Dan actually believes what he says.

The lads awkwardly shoe horning political references into the news round and virtue signalling their disappointment about Trumps victory.

I find it notable that all 3 unanimously agreed. Is it a prerequisite to be a left wing liberal to work for Ger Gilroy?

Echo chambers and general group think leads to a lack of diverse opinions and is pretty unhealthy I'd argue.

Enjoyed BOD tonight in discussion with Eoin on meeting with all blacks over the years.

I didnt hear the slot but i gather they had the former Irish olympian Ciaran O Lionaird on at some point yesterday discussing why he was happy Trump won

Is anyone else listening to the John Giles interview? He appears a tad “off” it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭sub3wannabe

He's been like that for a while unfortunately. Obviously not a young man anymore. It's strange they don't quietly end the slot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,285 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Johns slot is the one I skip over for the last while. It’s a hard listen now. John is only comfortable talking about the Leeds team of the 70s and at this stage of his life has little to offer the modern football discourse. Slot needs to be taken off air in my opinion as it’s not serving either party well.

Good interview with Miguel Delaney on Wednesday ahead of his upcoming book launch on sports washing.

Good honest interview on today with Davy Russell. worth a listen.

Thought the same and I would, usually, turn off when the horse racing coverage comes on.

Did they ever say anything about A Slight Tangent ?

They did one after Joe left (Eoin was presenter/moderator) but seems it has been quietly killed off since that

Since when has Richie been pronouncing Bruno Fernandes as "Fernandesshhh". I don't think I've heard any other commentator, analyst, podcaster etc. saying it like that. Maybe he is technically correct, but it's really annoying! 😬

He sounds like he's trying to do a Sean Connery impression

Is he trying to be that guy who ensures foreign pronunciation all the time? There used be a spate of sports reporters who used do that specifically for Jose Maria Olazabal...

anyone else hear the adverts for Joes Pod before some of the otb headlines after the news? Bauer obviously won’t say no to advertising monies!

    100%

    Was doing my head in!

Doesn't attempt the correct pronunciation on other names so makes it stick out more

Is that who’s been saying ‘Pay Esch Jay’ whenever PSG are playing against someone in Europe?

yeah, they filled a lot of it with the you tube find of a cruyff clip where he had been a guest expert watching the cup final leeds lost to sunderland, that was up John's street but even with that he was floundering a bit.

For those who were debating on what matches on sundays are commentated live at the venue one of the lads on the Saturday football show mentioned "coming in here" to do comms on a sunday match so at least 1 is done on screens in the studio.

Being annoyed by the correct pronunciation of a name, this thread man 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭sub3wannabe

It's not the correct pronunciation though is it? I've literally never heard anyone else do it. Richies a classic hipster. Bohemians fan. Palestine flag on show. He's a meme.

On the pronunciation I agree it is very off putting the way he says it, especially when he seemed to only begin this new Fernanchh craic this weekend and not at any point in the previous 5 years or so.

He also doesn’t do it for any other Portuguese or Brazilian players in the league or when speaking about Ronaldo, so a bit odd he’s making a point of doing it for Fernandes.
